Free Retro Studios (i.e., Screw Metroid Prime 3)

Metroid Prime = hawt
Retro Studios = hawt

Still i think they should focus on new projects, or a new IP for that matter.
There should be enough talent at Nintendo to assign new Metroid games to
another development group.

This thread is helping the world.

Not sure if you're sarcastic or not, I never know with you.

But "freeing a game studio" :lol

Yeah why don't you (topic starter) go there walking around the building and demonstrate your anger!

metroid prime = best game of this generation, and possibly my favorite game of all time. i even like it better than super metroid, and i LOVE super metroid...

so anyway, i hope retro keeps making metroid games... 1 every 2.5 years should suffice. If they start working on other projects too, i'm cool with that. Nintendo should probably expand the studio until they are big enough to work on several projects at once.

yeah like NST? :lol

maybe not, but wouldn't it be cool if those minds came up with something completely new?

shhhh you'll awake the haters...

Wasn't there a rumour some time ago that NST is developing a FPS game with realistic weapons, or something like that? Can't remember where I heard it...

IÂ’m not buying a 360 until I hear about a new game from these underrated guys.

I guess you will never buy a 360, because Bungie isn't doing anything but Halo for a LONG time if MS has their way.

Well he's the one who keep saying that Revolution will be much worse than xbox360.....heck i even believe that rev will be inferior but he claims that will be "much" worse tech wise, which i really doubt....
I don't know the specs. All I know is not to expect 360 horsepower. And expect Nintendo to not take a loss on hardware.

After Prime 3, I'll be happy to see Retro move on to something else. I would also like to see something new from Bungie after Halo 3.. Oni 2, anyone? :D (I know a lot of people knock it, but I really did have fun playing it on the pc)

Screw You Guys!! I love Metroid and the whole feel they have created in the series!!

That said, I'd still like to see them do some other stuff and SOON!. They just may be one of the most talented developers out there these days (them and Criterion IMO)

This thread doesn't make any sense.

Prime is loved because it's a OMG! FPS on a Nintendo console.
Prime is hated becaues it's OMG! FPS on a Nintendo console.

In reality, Prime is just a really fucking cool game no matter the hardware it ended up on.

Prime 2 on the other hand... ugh... MOTS in the worst way possible.

The Metroid Prime series is one of the few things Nintendo is doing right,so fuck all of you :D

So far my favorite Nintendo console games of this generation have been developed by second parties, both Metroid Prime games by Retro and Eternal Darkness by Silicon Knights, altho hopefully Twilight Princess will change that.

Yeah, I'd like to see what Retro could create if given some freedom, but at the same time I don't want them to stop making Metroid games since they do such a fantastic job of it. They should just expand a bit, and add on a seond team.

I was agreeing with you, sarcastically.

I can't wait to play MP3 and any other metroid games developed by Retro!

Free Bungie from the clutches of Halo!
Free Rockstar from the evil GTA series!
Free EAD from Zelda and Mario! (ie. this thread is idiotic)

No one gives a hoot about Samus these days. In fact, Metroid should either be buried altogether or reserved for the handheld arena.

The Retro guys are CAPABLE of making a great FPS. If they can convert a niche 2D game like Metroid into a fabulous 3D experience,

No way that Retro has the manpower to work on more than one game at a time, especially when working on such a high profile game on a new platform.

However, they have stated that MP3 is the last in the trilogy, they're probably throwing around some new ideas.

Retro has some *amazing* concept artists and character designers. I would love to seem them just go wild on a new IP, but I don't think one last Prime would necessarily be stifling considering what they can do with the new control scheme.

Ya know, who's to say? We really don't know how powerful the Revolution will be...

I know one thing, though, the DS has proven to Nintendo that the most powerful hardware is not required to deliver a unique experience with top sales. The DS is cheap hardware, yet it's doing very well for them. I don't think Nintendo wishes to compete with the other two companies on that front anymore. It seems very possible to me that the Revolution really will only represent a mild upgrade over Gamecube.

Taking the DS approach may not be a bad thing for them.

the DS wasnt a mild upgrade for the GBA. and i doubt consumers would be happy about a mild upgrade on the console front.

I'll be very happy with MP3, especially since I haven't and don't plan on playing the second as it would be too much of the same thing. Afterward, it would be cool if they could do a Halo / Perfect Dark calibre FPS, though I'd be willing to see how they do with a non-FPS for a change.

Anybody worried that with the rev controller Metroid 3 will be more like a FPS than an adventure game? Aiming shouldn't be a problem now, make it 3rd person dammit! :p

If any of us knew what Nintendo was up to, and what type of risk they're planning on taking with the Revolution, then a lot more people would've actually expected the Revolution controller to be what it is. With this said, anyone who thinks they know something... doesn't know shit.

i'm a little bit worried about that to be honest. Metroid should not be a deathmatch game and it should not feel like quake.

hopefully retro realizes that and doesn't decide to change gears drasticly just because the second game sold worse than expected.

i want the next metroid to be very similair, but with HUGE outdoor environments, and possibly even multiple planets. i also wouldn't mind if there were even more things to backtrack and search for. giant planets that serve as hub worlds with lots of caverns to explore...

The rev controller should make the freelook element work perfectly though, since you don't need to use your thumb, the great platforming won't be effected.

Wave Race Blue Storm = :)

Its their only game I like though!

I loved both Wave Race Blue Storm and 1080 Avalanche. I had no problems regarding the gameplay of these titles. I just felt that they should've been fleshed out a bit since they share the same length appeal as a coin-op.

i don't think anyone underrates them either. but only because i don't think it's possible to underrate developers who've done nothing but defile a classic franchise. this really is the thread where retro fans and sensible people can come to various agreements!
Oh boo hoo. I say feed more IP to the Raven Blade dragon.
ravenblade11.jpg

What's that Kid Icarus? Retro didn't implement flying? EAT DYNAMIC PARTICLE EFFECTS.

ravenblade02.jpg

Same goes for you, Ice Climbers.

If the Metroid revolution demo is any indication, then Metroid Prime 3 will likely be much more FPS than FPA, which in my opinion is a good thing. Metroid Prime 2 did not sell well, and FPA is just an excuse Nintendo came up with to explain why their game controlled like shit.

I expect MP3 to have free look shooting unhindered by lockon bullshit and excellent control.

Erm, FPA doesn't relate to the controls at all, butt munch, but rather the concept and execution of the game- in otherwords, the gameplay.

thats not really the concern. the worry would be that it suddenly became a tactical shooter instead of an adventure game. the primary action in metroid is exploring, backtracking and upgrading... shooting is just a way to clear out obstacles until you get to the boss fights. just because they have freelook, it does not mean i should suddenly be spending all my time fighting hordes of space pirates and ducking behind things.

freelook is fine as long as you can do it without fucking up the feel of the platforming. with the rev controller, that should be possible. it was not possible on the cube controller... you needed jump set to a face button.

In my honest opinion, Retro Studios has the capability of delivering a first-person shooter to Nintendo that could fill in the void left by Rare. Instead, their skills are being handicapped severely by the physics dictated by fucking Metroid. The first Metroid Prime was good – it resurrected and revolutionized the franchise – but that should have been a one-time deal. No one gives a hoot about Samus these days. In fact, Metroid should either be buried altogether or reserved for the handheld arena.

The Retro guys are CAPABLE of making a great FPS. If they can convert a niche 2D game like Metroid into a fabulous 3D experience, just imagine what they can do with a new FPS franchise that isnÂ’t established on any 2D fundamental.

IÂ’m not buying a Revolution until I hear about a new game from these underrated guys.
I don't get the point of what you're saying... You want another generic FPS? You don't like Metroid? You think Retro Studios is underrated? You won't buy a Revolution unless Retro does something non-Metroid on it?

Christ, boy. Pick an angle, then bitch. :lol

Metroid Prime and Echos were both absolutely amazing games. I'm excited to see what they do with the next incarnation, especially if the Revolution's interface has something to do with it.

I *like* the Metroid Prime controls, and I'd rather play Echoes (which isn't even as good as the first Prime) over most of the other crap released on consoles these days. There are like 10,000 FPS games on the market and I was glad that Retro did something different for Metroid.

Prime 3 probably won't have lock-on, but with that crazy controller I won't really care.

metroid prime was good, echoes was even better (GREAT level design)

but ya, id like to see them work on something new, echoes wasnt that much of an evolution of metroid and i think the franchise is restricting they're creativity. I'd like to see what they can do with other genres (although revolution is in dire need of a great fps and i dont know who can deliver better than retro)

If we want to free developers from sequels, we must first free ourselves of our capitalist ways! I mean, come on, if Retro can change Metroid so much with Prime, there's nothing to stop them from changing it that much again with Revolution.

No more Metroid Primes, please, for the love of god. Frankly, one was enough. We don't need spinoffs of a freakin' sequel.

I'd still like to see what Retro could do with an actual first-person shooter though.

!!!NO MORE FPS WITH CONTROLLER!!!

Keyboard / mouse option or leave it alone. Everytime I try Halo / Metroid, want to throw system / control out the window. Now, take one of my favorite franchise back to it's roots, 2D or 3rd person. Screw you Retro Studios / N. :D
