Free Retro Studios (i.e., Screw Metroid Prime 3)

No kidding. This "gods hand" charactor has made sure, that each and everytime a Revolution topic comes up, he get's his;

"It won't be as powerfull as 360" "WAY underpowered compared to 360" "Not even in the ballpark of 360"

I mean WTF? You gettin' handjobs from the 360? If so, can I expect the handjobs that ILL be getting from the Revolution to be "Way underpowered"?

!!!NO MORE FPS WITH CONTROLLER!!!

Keyboard / mouse option or leave it alone. Everytime I try Halo / Metroid, want to throw system / control out the window. Now, take one of my favorite franchise back to it's roots, 2D or 3rd person. Screw you Retro Studios / N. :D

You're kidding, right?

Now, I'll admit, I kind of sucked at Halo originally because I was getting used to that mammoth original Xbox controller, but Metroid is one of the EASIEST games to play. Sure, the games are challenging, but as far as play mechanics go, I just don't see how anyone could complain about them. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. :)

And honestly - this coming from someone who is rooted in old school videogames - I think Metroid works even better in first person. It's all about the atmosphere, and being able to take it all in from the viewpoint inside of Samus' helmet, I think, is far more effective than seeing everything from a 2D standpoint.

In my honest opinion, Retro Studios has the capability of delivering a first-person shooter to Nintendo that could fill in the void left by Rare. Instead, their skills are being handicapped severely by the physics dictated by fucking Metroid. The first Metroid Prime was good – it resurrected and revolutionized the franchise – but that should have been a one-time deal. No one gives a hoot about Samus these days. In fact, Metroid should either be buried altogether or reserved for the handheld arena.

The Retro guys are CAPABLE of making a great FPS. If they can convert a niche 2D game like Metroid into a fabulous 3D experience, just imagine what they can do with a new FPS franchise that isn’t established on any 2D fundamental.

I’m not buying a Revolution until I hear about a new game from these underrated guys.
you do realize that Nintendo is the only reason Retro didn't fall apart ?

I haven't bothered with Echoes yet so I'm not too burned out on Metroid. I'm wondering more how all the functionality of MP would work on the Rev remote.

Saying that after MP3 I would like to see something entirely new from Retro, just not another bloody FPS. I would be shocked if MP3 didn't give people the freelook they've so desparately wanted, considering how much Nintendo have been stressing that the Rev remote is great for FPS, and it was the big selling point of the Metroid demo.

This may seem strange but as NES/SNES owner I never owned a copy of Metroid or Super Metorid I had played both briefly but somehow they slipped under the radar.

Fast forward to Metroid Prime I did enjoy the game but it seriously failed to live up to the hype IMO. I personally didn’t think the metroid concept of backtracking and target combat were fun in 3D/1st person (I did dig the boss battles).

I recently picked up my DS a few weeks ago and picked up dirt cheap new copy of Metroid Fusion (never picked up that many games on my GBA because of the screen). It is simply one of the finest games I have played this gen the controls are tight, exploration is fun and the boss battles are intense. I most certainly will be picking up a copy of Zero mission next week, so personally I would love to see the next flagship Metroid title return to 2D.

To your hype, maybe not. But it was critically acclaimed enough that is largely exceeded the hype for the vast majority of people and reviewers. I don't see how the product could have been any more solid, from a pragmatic point of view.

The game was fine I just didn’t enjoy the concept of Metroid in 3d, I would agree that in 3D the game probally couldn’t be anymore solid my disappointment is more due to my taste in games.

Well if that's your take on it do be sure to check out the other 2D Metroid titles. Fusion was the weakest of all the 2D Metroid games (still kicked ass though).

If by "nobody" you mean "NintendosBooger" then yes I would agree with you. If you meant it literally though...Well then I'd kindly tell you to shut the fuck up and stop passing your opinion as the collective sentiment of gamers. Thanks.

If Metroid Prime 3 will be Nintendo's answer to Perfect Dark, Kill Zone, Halo 3, and god knows what else, then that tells me that Nintendo cares absolutely nothing about recapturing that particular segment of western gaming. The first Metroid Prime was awesome. I thought the translation from 2D to 3D was executed flawlessly. Then the second game was released, and it was just too much of an old thing. I was stuck playing the same clumsy, slow, and archaic style of gaming that can only be interwoven into a first-person shooter set in the Metroid universe.

Unfortunately, Metroid 3 was already announced, but I'd rather see it released near the end of the Revolution's life cycle, giving Retro Studios the time and opportunity to establish a fresh and more dynamic first-person franchise to kick-start the next generation.
