"Freemium" 'Marvel: Contest of Champions' Has Grossed Over $100,000,000 So Far

I know it isnt easy...but I have looked into trying to make a mobile game.

I need to hop on it. Flappy Bird is my inspiration.

As much as some of us dont like it...the return on investment has to have companies wanting a piece of this pie.
That train is long gone. Do you mean Flappy Bird inspired you to get into mobile, or you'd want to make a Flappy-style game?

Honestly, mobile gaming has never been better. So many great games are coming out that it's been overwhelming to keep up with all the releases.

The article makes a good point, marketing and advertising is such a huge part of these games because they are desperate to get as many millions of people as possible to download it and a small percentage get hooked and spend way too much.

The games may cost almost nothing to make but I'm sure the marketing budget is in the tens of millions to 100 million range.

Whoa where are they spending these tens of millions of dollars? I don't think clash of clans has even spent that much and they have a bunch of commercials.

Its inspired me to want to make a game. Not necessarily a Flappy Bird clone. lol.

I agree mobile gaming has come a loooong way.

I mean, I don't know, but these mobile games have much more high profile and prolific advertising than most console games. And they run for a longer time as well.

Halo 3 had a marketing budget of 30 million and that was a very extensive campaign but it probably only ran for 2-3 months.

Running a larger scale marketing for the launch and continuing for a full year to keep new players coming in could easily surpass that when you look at tripe like game of war.

Easy on Facebook, Twitter, Google ads, superbowl commercials. Mobile marketing campaigns easily cost you several dollars per acquired user.

Online advertising doesn't cost that much and only 3 games had the super bowl commercials. And for those games, that was only AFTER they had made hundreds of millions of dollars. Several dollars per user seems really high to me. But I haven't done any research on it.

Mobile advertising is 0.8 to 2$ dollars per install. Can reach 3-4$ if expensive specific submarkets are targeted.

It does cost that much and more depending on the game.

An incentivized ad-of-the-day type of campaign is going to be cheaper but highly targeted install campaigns on social media are expensive.
