Exactly the same for me. No complaints about the frame rate from meTo me the frame-rate was pretty bad in the tutorial area. I'm 30 hours in now and it seems to hold 30fps mostly.

But um, pre-release footage from undefined platforms at an unspecified point of a game's development not looking like the final build of a particular version of the game is a crazy thing to rage about as far as I'm concerned. Especially when the underlying game is still really good. People have seemingly lost their damn minds with some of these comments.
I haven't been following this whole thing. Do most people take more of an issue with how the downgrade was handled (no downgraded media shown before release? no apology or explanation?), or is the downgrade itself inexcusable?
Again, pretty much all the screenshots we've seen looked dreadful.I don't care about the downgrade, I think bullshitting your paying customers is something I'm personally annoyed with. And the fact that nobody from the press is picking this up and making a REAL story about it.
Showing beautiful screenshots and gameplay trailers and then pulling the old switcheroo and releasing a game that looks nothing like previously shown gameplay/screenshots is not OK in my book.

The inconsistency of DS2's art design is staggering.
If there was one place I figured that would say gameplay was king I figured it would be neogaf, and if there was one game whose audience I felt would champion gameplay above all else it'd be Dark Souls.
This is maybe honestly the first time there have been a huge upswell on GAF that I look at with complete befuddlement. Yeah the Mass Effect 3 stuff was overblown but that ending was shit. And Bioshock Infinite had some great visual and audio design and solid mechanics, but it was rightly lampooned for bad storytelling and level design. And anything involving not being able to actually play the games you buy on launch because servers are borked is absolute bullshit that should never be viewed as acceptable.

I don't know why people keep saying this.
Reductionist garbage like this isn't helping. The changes are significant. Some geometry and lighting changed between the preview and final version.

lmfao
Yep. With some of these enemies, bosses, areas and NPCs, I seriously get the feeling I'm playing cookie-cutter fantasy game #18324. Then in other places, the old Souls-style still shines through. It's a shame, these inconsistencies are so jarring that sometimes it really hurts the immersion for me.Thats where 90% of my disappointment with DkSII is coming from. It's art just isn't as strong and cohesive as DkS. In the design works guide Miyazaki talks about how he'd turn away designs that didn't have some measure of elegance, or regalness to go along with the more disturbing aesthetics. It's this vision which I think is what gives DkS it's more ethereal, esoteric sense of decayed beauty and place.
DkSII's director's seem to have scrapped that, as some of these designs for bosses etc look like something that could be in a cheesy bad John Carpenter film. Having said that, those designs are fewer than the good ones. Like I said before, the problem is that DkSII's art isn't as cohesive and consistent.

With all respect, speak for yourself. I own a copy for each region of DeS, PS3/PC copy of DaS and plan to double-dip with DaS2. I see the changes and can understand why they are there. I don't need an explanation/apology from anyone. You need to make a distinction between people who notice the changes and those who decide it's worth pressing charges about.
If you're upset/holding out, fine. That's your choice as a consumer. But can we put an end to this notion that everyone who has bought the game thus far are suckers or "walking wallets"? It's frankly rather childish and insulting.
Well I haven't played the game yet(waiting for PC version), so perhaps the game looks even worse, but surely saying that FROM released 'beautiful screenshots' is quite a massive exaggeration? Not true. As many have pointed out on this topic now and before, former screens are clearly demonstrating higher settings than what we have in final product. Heck, the back of the box exhibits finer graphical output than what is actually in our hands today.
What a bullshit excuse. The TGS demo, running on actual PS3s, looked and performed way better than the retail game.
It's very clear now that the TGS demo was a vertical slice and the actual game never looked or ran as well as the demo. From lied since the beginning all the way to the release of the game and is still doing it in regards of the PC version.
Fuck From and fuck its apologists.

I am with this guy who needs to endure that shitstorm from some assholes here on the forum. Yeah, I said it, ban me if you like, NeoGAF becomes a place I want to be less and less lately anyway.
If the final result does not meet your standards/expectations, don't buy it.
- People claim that "the build that the network Beta ran on was hugely different than the final 'downgraded' build", yet others claim it was the same 'final' build.
Additional note: not all dynamic lights were removed. Some of them. The network test build and final build are very similar.
The major differences are lights don't cast dynamic shadows anymore to quell performance issues, and the brightness has been turned up.
Surprised at all the people who say they aren't going to get this now, or will wait.
Goes to show that graphics truly are what's most important to a lot of people.
I'm not trying to defend what FROM has done either. It sucks, I'm not happy about it, but its still fucking Dark Souls 2. No way I'm gonna wait around. Durante wont be able to do shit about a different lighting system and replaced textures and assets and whatnot.
Again, pretty much all the screenshots we've seen looked dreadful.

How the fuck are people supposed to know?If the final result does not meet your standards/expectations, don't buy it.
Are you talking about the consistent slight delay before an attack or the glitch where you press a button and it doesn't happen for several seconds?Maybe because some of you are getting used to that slideshow by now.
It doesnt get really better once the tutorial area is done. Majula has some really huge lows too. Its up to the physics and alphas, combined with the level size that determines the framerate apparently and I have some serious issues with input lag because of this and thats why I notice it much more than compared to Blighttown.
He is right though because he is referring to the official screenshots and not to the early reveal footage. Please, try to be more embarrassingly loyal to a company, I'm curious to see if it's possible.
Perhaps you are unaware of what a 'screenshot' is.![]()

See, posts like yours is while some people dismiss all of us who voice criticism as crazies. Please stop that hyperbolic shit.
Who knows whether that preview footage actually ran on a PS3? I seriously doubt that. Just because some gaming journalist said that doesn't mean it's true.
All I know is that the network beta had more severe framerate problems than the final game has in that area. In the final game that same level is missing a couple of dynamic lightsources and has brighter ambient lighting but it runs better.
Oh yes. A standard retail PS3. Not even a devkit.
I watched one of the stations crash even and they simply reset the PS3 and the disc showed up on the XMB menu and everything. You could also use the PS button.

Started last night and thought the same thing. The costal area you get to where it's sunny looks pretty nice but overall the game seems really ugly so far:Visually, it doesn't even look as good as Dark Souls 1 imo.
Ick. I was thinking you were talking about something else, but yeah, that sucks.Cant really say its a glitch. It feels like input lag that sometimes happen. I notice that the game stutters heavier when its happening. Maybe I'm too sensitive but this is taking a tad bit longer than the usual input lag.

Well, we can only hope that Miyazaki is already working on the next Souls game as we speak.
