Yeah, well, fuck you too, From.
It's so odd, too. The PS3 could have the same performance as the 360 version without v-sync. So, I'm confused as to why they enabled v-sync on one console and not the other, surely the 360 could've achieved close to PS3 performance with v-sync on as well, no?Yeah I wonder how that would have worked out. watching the comparison video again and both versions hit like 24-26 fps when the player is fighting in water.
Seeing as this is not a shooter and were talking next gen there won't be a difference at all really. I'm a graphics whore but can deal with a better experience on a console. Dark souls 2 was said to literally be built for next gen, sooooooo.....
PC isn't considered next-gen?
PC is an open platform, it doesn't have gens. Graphics cart do, but their gens change almost every couple of month (it seems).

In the actual article "Unlike previous games, both PS3 and 360 versions run with no frame-rate cap whatsoever."
this thread is proof that nothing From does will ever please everyone.
the graphics should be the least of anyone's concern. you're all a bunch of babies.

The graphics inform an absolutely massive amount of the atmosphere in these games. Stop licking corporate boots for a second and realize that.this thread is proof that nothing From does will ever please everyone.

Try every couple of days.
what does it say about the marketing/hype cycle of the current industry when i purposely didn't follow anything about this game past it's announcement, and i don't have these feelings of being lied to and betrayed?
am i in the wrong because i didn't buy into whatever From/Namco was apparently selling in the interim? should be outraged despite never being under any assumption that what was shown at the reveal would be the actual game that was delivered? i even thought at the time they were bullshots because this is From Software we're talking about. their games have consistently been graphically undercooked since the original King's Field. i know exactly what to expect from this developer and by that account they've delivered in spades: a technically janky action game rife with fantastic style and artistic vision that's a blast to play.
i can understand being upset about the change, but this reaction has gone from justified and understandable to simply malicious and unreasonable. the game is the game; they aren't going to suddenly release a patch that fixes all your issues. say you're disappointed, let the company know, and then don't buy their product. this incessant comparison of the same images over-and-over-and-over quite literally goes nowhere. it's not constructive, and it's not going to fix whatever problems exist or are perceived with the game. i'm sorry that for a large (or just incredibly vocal) portion of you out there, that this game is not worth playing or purchasing because of the change, but you're missing out on potentially the best release in this series to date.
i respect the decision not to buy it under the pretense that it isn't what you expected, but to go one step further and insinuate that From Software purposely and knowingly spent time, energy, and money to produce assets and technology that they knew would never actually get released is preposterous and signifies a massive misunderstanding of how game development works.
as for this claim that the game looks worse than the first Dark Souls, i advise all of you to book an appointment with an optometrist immediately.
How about pressure them to stop falsely advertising a product? How about that?+1 internet
Also: for god sakes whatever you do don't pressure game companies to prioritize hitting their graphical benchmarks over hitting the benchmarks that relate to gameplay. We're JUST getting out of this whole "everything has to look godly, who cares about gameplay as long as they buy it" thing.
The point of the post he quoted was that things shift and change in development, but for the media they're giving out I wonder if they just thought "close enough" or something? Outside of the dragon manor picture on their (Japanese) site I couldn't explicitly pin anything else that didn't look like it couldn't have come from the game itself except for maybe one shot from the CGI teaser. How about pressure them to stop falsely advertising a product? uh, what? why is the disc version screwed up? couldn't this be rectified with a patch?

It's important to remember I think that we're reaching a point in graphical fidelity where you have to look harder and harder, if you hadn't seen the pictures or gameplay unveil in a long time I wouldn't be surprised if the omission/change of whatever covenant was on your Health/Stamina bar stuck out more than any of the visual changes. Ideally they wouldn't post stuff that wasn't from the game, but annoyingly a lot of publishers are and remain guilty of this. It's enough to call them out on it I think, none of this insane rage or boycotting the game.

I don't understand why bull shots are demonized personally.
Bullshots typically involve ridiculously high resolution screens with tons of AA, not entirely different lighting methods, and certainly not different textures and geometry.
Yeah, I remember Valkyrie Profile 2 having screenshots at resolutions that'd make 1080p child's play. That's why I was thinking they might have just gone "eh, close enough" or simply failed to update their site/press pics as development went on, which is actually something else to consider I think.Bullshots typically involve ridiculously high resolution and AA, not entirely different lighting methods.
So...we hate them now because of lighting effects?
Can't wait to see how the PC version turns out
Does From really expect me to believe that the downgrade was from some "final culmination of a delicate balance" and not from an incompetent dev cycle? The amount of useless torch areas are very telling lol
you! you! give us smoot! you you! give us shiny
I haven't played it yet but isn't it great? I hear it's still as challenging as the first. Gaf is so quickly converted.it's because all the deceive, false advertising, dishonesty and misleading From pulled on us (and add their today awful response to all of that).
also the downgrade is more than just lighting (see the screens and gifs here and the other thread)
Seeing as how I can't even get Dark Souls to run on PC with dsfix ("executable not working"), waiting for PC is not an option for me. Too bad I already gave them money for the PS3 version. Here's hoping I can afford a PS4 whenever they announce it for that...

"Throughout the game development process, a game is constantly being balanced not only in game playability, but also in the realm of resource management, From told MCV.
You left out delivering a playable final version, they pulled that on all of us too. Also From is not Bandai Namco, if it's marketing you're honestly upset about.it's because all the deceive, false advertising, dishonesty and misleading From pulled on us (and add their today awful response to all of that).

On a PC game? isnt that an oxymoron.... PC games optimization is akin to just buy a freaking new graphics card chumps.
again it's about false advertising and dishonesty not gameplay. two separated things.
From kept promoting the game as if it was the early versions till like a week before the relese when people shocked after they saw what the game actually look like, From knew they are heavenly downgrading it, yet in interviewers they kept hyping the new engine and new lighting system and releasing screenshots to the sites from early version when the game at that point changed completely.

I don't think the chances are high that FROM would make a pc version with all those high quality assets, the demo with those assets was just a demo, we have not seen anything outside that demo that suggests other areas would've had high quality assets and lighting.
Especially with FROM coming out and use Resource Management and gameplay balance as their reason, meaning the lighting system that affect gameplay is changed, and they probably didn't want to use the resources on making 2 completely different games.
I followed a really detailed video which had me delete everything before reinstalling and adding dsfix. I then tweaked all of the settings as instructed. I even went back and lowered some of the dof and framerate options in case that was the issue. I stille get executable errors.Did you run the game prior to installing DS Fix?
Well true, but I'm no PC guy and it all just isn't worth it to me having to mess with so many settings just to get it working.I haven't heard of that particular error, but whether or not you're able to use DSFix should have no bearing on the PC version of Dark Souls II.
