Fromsoft has the best artists in the gaming industry, and it's not even close (PICS HEAVY)

It is Miyazaki's current project.
So this not true crap is copium from you.
I am not saying it isn't his project. I am saying that it's his project that is limited by mobile hardware. It's also a pvp game, and i am not expecting a pvp game to have the "wow!" factor that their singleplayers have.

I personally think they're good, but also quite overrated. People constantly use the whole "best art design" spiel as an excuse for their severely lacking visuals and performance on a technical level.

You know, Fromsoft, you can have incredible art design and great technical visuals. As endless teams have shown us over the years:

All techincally more advanced, but looking good as in being unique? Hell no. All generic looking, something you see all over the industry, including indie devs using UE5.

Can you tell me the hardware the top ten rated games of all time launched on or the hardware From's highest rated games were built around?

You're telling me this as if the only thing shown are skyboxes. Skyboxes are obviously there because they look nice, fit the environment perfectly. I can't fit everything in a single picture, and the architecture you're referring to, is also on there. Have plenty more pics of the environment, but that's enough. Or maybe a fromsoft game running on a better engine as well?

I cant see shit in those screenshots.

They're desktop wallpapers worthy for a reason lmao. You're literally admitting how good the environment looks. Glad we agree😁
My guy, I said they look good, not that they singlehandedly prove FromSoft has the best artists in the entire industry.
That's like saying a band is the greatest of all time because their album cover looks cool.

You're cherry-picking the easiest eye candy and pretending it's the whole cake. Great art direction is more than vibes and vistas. But if you're happy crowning 'best in the game' off some wallpaper-worthy skies, more power to you lmfao

Can't think of any pink haired dudes made by vanillaware.
But if they did make one it would indeed be far better than whatever From made.
Might of been purple and many are blue.
All hot messes regardless and well below From Software's legendary art.

Yes, I usually mention in my threads how Elden Ring's art makes me fucking appreciate this Reality, we live in, made by the developer - the Holy Trinity

I don't like their games, but art direction is the main reason I gave DS3 a shot after bouncing off Dark Souls, and why I still feel like trying out Bloodborne at some point. And even though I don't like the colors in Elden Ring, the shots you provided do look very nice.

For people moaning about graphics, just go see demon souls remake. That's top notch graphics combined with fromsofts artwork.

Their games look like those fantasy book covers I used to see in the bookstore as a child come alive.

Okay. Which dev, in which game does a better job. Post a pic to showcase what's so impressive in those other games.

Lmao you really out here acting like game art direction is a screenshot contest now. What's next, grading composers by ringtone quality? 😂

Just to be clear, I'm a huge FromSoftware fan, love their art direction, no doubt. My point is, some pretty skyboxes alone don't do justice to the incredible design work they put into their worlds. FromSoft's artistry is so much deeper than a handful of scenic shots. So yeah, showing only skyboxes to prove they're the best artists? That's selling them short

Oh, and for the record: I think Red Dead Rememption 2 has better looking skyboxes

You disagree. Fine. Show me something impressive. Simple, no?

RDR2 looks incredible, but it aims for photorealism. Plenty of games out there do it, and it doesn't take much imagination whatsoever. To create unique environments (which btw changes from game to game in fromsoft titles), it takes much more skill. Btw if we're talking about skyboxes, the only skybox in RDR2 that can even compete, is one in stormy weather. The rest can't even approach what's in ER/shadow of the erdtree.

Tell me please, what am I disagreeing on?

I never said FromSoft's art isn't impressive, I'm a huge fan too. My point is just that some skyboxes alone don't capture the full artistry at play. You're acting like the skybox = entire artistic achievement. How many times do I need to repeat myself?

RDR2's photorealism? Yeah, it's different, but that doesn't make it 'less skillful', it's just a different art style and goal. And claiming the only skybox that compares is during stormy weather? Man, that's some serious narrow-scope hill to die on

And yet, their games are still HIDEOUS

Thats a testament to how talentless their Tech team is.

Yes. Artistic skill is getting left by the wayside for UE5 default tools. Elden Ring looks miles better than any UE5 game to me because the art is so good. Look at Avowed. UE5 makes the puddles and rock piles look really good, but the subjective art is pure shit. So overall the game is ugly.

The issue most people have with your post is the "it's not even close" part. You either need to play more games or pay closer attention when you play those other games.

It is kind of funny that the first souls title, demon souls, is technically the best looking souls game and will remain so for this entire generation.

Pretty much.

It's sad, yes, and what you've said, i was saying it in 2020 lol. Five years later, nothing changed, and i don't see it changing in the next five years either.

The only reason i see why they aren't building a new engine or using something like UE5, is because all their devs are so used to their current engine that nobody wants to work on something new. Since they've been dominating the gaming industry with their outdated relic, they ain't seeing a reason to upgrade. And that's such an incredible shame. Quality lighting in their games would make an insane difference for the atmosphere and visuals.

The fear would be the gameplay being affected by even a microsecond. For the games they make, the risks outweight the costs. The market hasn't signaled that they aren't using good enough tech. Why risk it? If they're smart they have a small internal team working on expanding their in-house engine.

I find it crazy that so many internet gaming analysts bash the From engine without giving it any credit for the physics, crips combat, meaty hit connections and near zero input lag. I mean the old bastard is really a marvel.

I think Bethesda are in the same boat. If TES VI is an Unreal game, it has zero chance of being great. I'd be more than happy with Creation Engine one iteration beyond Starfield. Graphics were the only decent thing about Starfield. I'm not ready to trade that mod support and engine feel for great looking puddles and rock piles. There are plenty of games out there for puddle gawking.

Game looks like your basic UE5 title, which reminds me of UE4 tech demos. Don't know what's better in it, let alone lightyears ahead.
huh? I'm talking about the artistic direction, which is what I thought this thread was about.

you think Expedition 33 artistically looks like a tech demo? are you serious? have you played the game?

Playing it now through gamepass. The only thing that looks good are certain backgrounds, which, for the most part, you cannot visit. The actual environment you're in, is your typical UE5 samey looking slop. I am sure some are impressed by this, but i have seen enough games with flying rocks, it ain't original, nor creative. All and all, nothing in this game can compete with what fromsoft has been delivering for over a decade. There is also a reason why so little amount of games have their art style inspired by Tolkien's/Berserk stuff. It's difficult to create.

I wish i could upload some nice Elden Ring images i have but the image uploader here sucks, every time i get an upload failed message. It won't even upload 120kb/720p images.

Nah, its pretty close. A lot of devs have great artists doing amazing things with art style. From's artists are being held back by that arhaic engine. They peaked with bloodborne and DS3 and have taken a step back with Sekior and Elden Ring. Elden Ring does shine thanks to the incredible soundtrack and ambience that makes it a lot more atmospheric than similar games. But in terms of art style, other devs are just as good if not better.
