The Gaming Industry failed RAGE 2

Shooting was great, almost everything else was between bad and ok.

The game also feel very short.

Rage 1 remain the superior experience overall.

It was ok, one of those turn your brain off for 10 hours and then forget about it. I much preferred the first game despite its issues, it was far more ambitious for its time even though not all bets paid off.

I got the plat before it left PS+ some months ago, and it was okay at best. For me Mad Max was way more memorable, despite being an older title.
I was shocked when the credits rolled 4 hours in.

Atleast this ran under something that isn't Unreal Engine 5 (It was Apex Engine).

What didn't help, is that Generation Zero, also by Avalanche (but a different branch) was in development alongside it, too using Apex.

I can imagine that despite being separate teams, them sharing the same engine must have hurt.

Still both games premises are great. I have both for PS4 because i love supporting smaller titles (Generation Zero) and tech.

Okay, you've got me tentatively interested. I saw a clip of John Carmack talking about Rage 1 on Joe Rogan so I've been thinking about Rage a bit lately. If it's ever under 10, I'll be taking a look.

The original Rage I found to be a snooze fest and played the first 10 of this one on Gamepass and found it to feel similar.

My mind couldn't sum 2 + 2 and I thought this was about Rockstar Advanced Graphic Engine lol.

I've always wanted to play that game but I don't feel like playing 2 without playing 1 first, are the connected or are they like FF where the sequel doesn't care about the previous game plot?
You wouldn't be missing much. And what I like to tell myself is that if I really like the sequel I start with, I've got a prequel to check out afterwards.

RAGE 2 is a more realized as a game. Part 1 is closer to a tech demo that they had to "oh shit hurry and clean this up, we gotta ship something". Part 1 has more impressive tech in places, but also big sections of "I can't believe they shipped this" (N64 texture resolution in some spots. Very sparsely put together missions and actual "game").

RAGE is the album a visionary rock and roll artist makes after they're over the hill. It doesn't compare to their best work, but there are flashes of visionary artist in a few places. RAGE is Metallica Load.

RAGE 2 is a Top 40 industry-machine pop album that was made via a checklist they got from a visionary artist. You won't mistake it for high art, but it's tuned by industry experts to be a perfectly palatable and well put together. RAGE 2 is Linkin Park Meteora.

Whoever was in charge of marketing dropped the ball hard.
Yep. One of the biggest things working against it. On PC you can remedy the pink with a reshade, but it's still not perfect. The pink combined with the bad console performance and Avalanche not being iD was a wombo-combo it couldn't overcome. Mostly because we were still getting a stream of good releases out of the industry, so everyone had options.

If I could condense the game into just a single portion of it's massive map, for a high octane 20hr experience, I would.

Regardless this is a weird rock, paper, scissors moment where I would suggest to anyone wanting to play Mad Max, to play Rage 1 instead.
Mad Max wins on aesthetic execution but the combat is a snoozefest and makes the game hard to finish. Best world we'd get RAGE 2 combat with Mad Max aesthetic and vehicles.

problem with rage2 was rage1

rage1 sucked and left a bad taste in everyones mouth
ill put rage2 on my backlog though
If this was a new IP, and they ditched the pink, it would have done a lot better in terms of sales and public perception.

I need to replay it soon. I remember it being very good with excellent weapons and great environmental destruction.

I also remember it had dogshit marketing and that people were very quick to dismiss the game.

Someone here is probably going to come into this thread and suggest that Mad Max video game instead for Rage 1 players, and I'm here to tell you preemptively that you should only play that game if you want an over-bloated Ubisoft-like experience where the map is way too big and each boss fight plays out exactly the same.

Dodge past the left, heavy attack, and light attack combo.
Are you dissing my boy mad max?

I was trying (and failed) to finish RAGE before playing this. Seems I should just go to RAGE 2. (And I keep hearing the word RAGE in my head as spoken by the Primal Rage announcer.)

RAGE was an amazing tech demo. I still wish we lived in the megatexture timeline. Seems like at the 11th hour when Bethesda needed them to hand in a finished product they could sell there was some confusion.

No, you can't release a 750GB Xbox 360 game. Oh, and there has to be an actual game in there. With a beginning and an end. Levels and bosses and all that. I think they slapped all that together in the last two weeks. Looks nothing like what they were playing with internally.

I'm setting expectations.
i could set low expectation for every game in existence by only listing the bad things but ok.

Last 2 zelda or at the very least botw has a mostly barren open world with ubisoft towers and the boss fight are straight trash and yet many people think it's the pinnacle of gameplay or some shit...
