I'm surprised at the lack of enthusiasm for this rumor.
At this point he's one of the most successful fantasy writers ever, up there with Tolkien and Rowling, but sure, "mediocre".Not everyone is enthralled with GOT. I enjoyed it but it isn't the most amazing thing ever, GRRM seems like a mediocre fantasy writer there must be millions like him.

For what it's worth, I don't think his actual prose is that good (neither is Rowling's), but few people ever create something that captures the imagination of so many people, so give credit where credit's due.
Microsoft E3 looks like the best place ton introduce a new Game of Thrones game this year. You can be sure that it will gather a lot of attention.I just don't understand them showing it on Xbox stage...

I've enjoyed From's stories until now without the need for an outside writer. Saying "he's from TV!" doesn't make me excited as TV is full of highly lauded mediocrity and TV people seem to get a lot of underserved work imo.
Kinda sick of prestige tv tbh. Hence why I play odd, obtuse, Japanese action games instead ;-)
They unveiled Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice on MS's stage too. Gameplay I mean, not the title. That sounds incredible, I just don't understand them showing it on Xbox stage... but anyway, that's trivial.
Where else would they show it?That sounds incredible, I just don't understand them showing it on Xbox stage... but anyway, that's trivial.

George R.R. Martin: "I've consulted on a video game out of Japan"
The rumored From Software collaboration project?
A Song of Fire and Ice writer George R.R. Martin has consulted on a video game developed in Japan, the novelist said in a blog post.
Back in March, YouTube channel Spawn Wave published a video discussing a rumor regarding the next project from Dark Souls and Bloodborne developer From Software, which stated it is an open-world title on which George R.R. Martin is one of the lead writers, with various kingdoms to visit and abilities to obtain from killing the leaders of those kingdoms.
A person familiar with ongoings at From Software has told Gematsu that the project—said to be known internally as "GR" (Gematsu has been asked to only share the acronym) and in development for the past three years—is an open-world title (with horse riding) and collaboration between Hidetaka Miyazaki and George R.R. Martin published by Bandai Namco, which will be officially announced at Microsoft's E3 2019 press conference. While we have not been able to verify this information through additional sources, we have decided to share what we have heard in light of R.R. Martin's blog post.

I honestly getting sick of them, what I like FROM games is they have proper level design instead if just doing open world like 90% western developers going for these days. What we really need is yet another open world game... Or another Norse theme game... Or both!
.... yay...
I would prefer another souls game or another Bloodborne if the best they can come up with is open world Norse stuff.
That sounds incredible, I just don't understand them showing it on Xbox stage... but anyway, that's trivial.

Also writing for books and writing for video games is different unless you want a game that story gets in the way of the gameplay itself. This mostly my personal opinion but what like both Fumito Ueda, Miyazaki and Yoko Taro is that use video game itself as medium to tell their stories. Not everyone is enthralled with GOT. I enjoyed it but it isn't the most amazing thing ever, GRRM seems like a mediocre fantasy writer there must be millions like him.

Are you basing the quality of the writing in the books (that GRRM wrote) on the show?Capturing people's imaginations isn't really a mark of quality though is it? ie: Gangam Style?
It's usually a fluke that the public then run with.
In GOT case all I can remember people talking about was the gore and nudity at the beginning, no one mentioned the story at all unless it was to take the piss out of how long everything took. It wasn't well written, but it had a hook to draw people in.
GOT is a soap opera, so it's designed to be addictive. It's mainly that the formula works and has for decades.
That formula is usually one great episode followed by two uneventful ones with a cliffhanger at the end of episiode 3 to make you watch 4 -- where it gets good again (then you repeat).
In that respect Martin is a perfect fit with From, who aren't great coders but make extremely addictive games.
They could present it at Sony's conference.
Oh wait.
On cos he made a lot of money? As if money is an indication of quality? Guess that makes the Tranformers films classic and unimpeachable as well. Guess Ariana Grande is actually better than the Beatles too
LOTR is classic because it stands the test of time, was rediscovered over and over by multiple generations. GOT is flavor of the month. Let's see who still cares about it in 20 years
There is always PSX

GRRM makes me weary. His world is actually kind of boring when you take all the sex, gore and shock deaths out. He is a very average writer that found a way to titillate his way to relevancy and millions and millions of dollars. I can respect his hustle though.
But I still enjoyed fullmetal alchemist (2003).Game of thrones fans now know what fullmetal alchemist fans had to go thru... except there's not gonna be a reworked canon series in our lifetime perhaps.

The ordinal anime also did the first part that was following the manga better than Brotherhood, but once brotherhood start follow the manga story, it became much better than the original anime. Is that the original anime? I did too. It also had the far superior soundtrack over Brotherhood.
That's sorta what I try to tell got fans. It's not a Star Wars situation ... sigh

I just don't understand how a Soulslike game would work in Game of Thrones. It just doesn't imo.
The world of Game of Thrones, being named Westeros is MADE to be an open-world adventure game. It would fit perfectly. Just make it a different timeline with all the major locations. I don't think FROM is a good developer to make an open world type game.
It's funny how hating on GoT has become something cool up to this extremely ridiculous levels.
And also funny how it's haters have very little grasp not only even about the books-which is more understandable given that you have to actually read them to form a well informed opinion-, but the TV series even.

GOT IS a soap opera opera in it's structure. So is The Sopranos. It doesn't mean they are bad. It's just the way they work.
George RR Martin based most of the plot on history, so it's solid. But the writing in the show character wise, is basic, so as to appeal to a mass audience.
That you find those comments "extremely ridiculous" only speaks for your love of the show.
Imagine thinking Game of Thrones is a "flavor of the month" when its been a fantasy novel phenomenon since the 2000's. Say what you want to say, but the worst people are the ones that don't give credit when credit is due. I hate it when people who don't like something have this itch up their ass to criticize it and make it seem like it's objectively mediocre. No it's not, get over it and move on. It's not your cup of tea, that's all there is to it.
Neither you nor anyone else knows how the show will be viewed in a few years.
The 20 million or so that watched the finale doesn't even compare to the 100 million that watched M.A.S.H. when it ended -- And that series is mostly remembered for being great at the beginning but crawling up it's own arse by the end.
You can enjoy something and still know it's not great -- I eat at Mcdonald's, but I would never pretend it was some sort of fine dining.
Technically, 99% o TV shows are soap operas. Buy you obviously brought that up in a negative manner alongside the rest of your negative comments, because otherwhise doesn't make sense to bring that up when almost all shows are episodic with a continuous open narrative for various characters in nature.
In which way are the characters more basic than the Sopranos?
Yeah, you should visit the Game Of Thrones thread more often. You would actually learn a thing or two.
Yet some people on your side love to claim it would be forgoten.
You think only 20 millions watched the show finale? It's the most pirated show ever. For every HBO account (that multiple people can watch) there are countless pirated downloads.
You have to accept at least this: is the most succesful and impactful show of the modern times. No other modern show has become part of the pop culture at the level GoT has.
lol
For not hating the show you sure always pick the most condescending things to say about it.

I'm really not interested in this conversation because you've wrongly assumed that I hate the show.
Your assertion that 99% of tv shows are soap operas isn't based on facts, so I'm not really prepared to enter into that discussion either as you just seem to making things up for a fight.
20 Million in America.
I love that you think I'm on a side. I'm too old for a fight though. You win!!!
