George R. R. Martin has issued the strongest tease yet that an Elden Ring movie may come to pass, but has acknowledged a significant blocker to his potential involvement with it.

The Game of Thrones creator famously dreamed up the world and history of FromSoftware's Elden Ring, which went on to become one of the best-selling games of 2022. FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco leaned heavily on Martin's involvement in promotional material, and the game credits begin by saying the Elden Ring world was created by FromSoftware chief Hidetaki Miyazaki and George R. R. Martin.

So, would George R. R. Martin be interested in coming back for a sequel to Elden Ring, if he's asked? That's the question IGN put to the man himself as part of IGN Fan Fest 2025. In his response, Martin sidestepped Elden Ring 2, but did drop a big hint that an Elden Ring movie could be in the works.

"Well, I can't say too much about it, but there is some talk about making a movie out of Elden Ring,"

Martin said.

The fatass wants to be part of anything that does not involve finishes his own book series.

That being said, I can easily see a anime series by Kadokawa/Sony.

Average peoples going out the movie after how fucking vague the story/lore is in this game

Just watch 8 hours of Vaati story explanation to understand.

Would the Tarnished work as a main character? Or would you follow the family drama of the demigods?

If I would guess, it would focus of the events before the tarnished rise up.

Honestly, as long it doesn't focus on that stupid Miquela and its fanmade DLC lore I'm fine with it.

I can see it now….. A dark fantasy Groundhog Day, starring Tom Holland as the Tarnished.

Edit - ah beaten to it.

Honestly, if Miyazaki is involved and has free creative reign+budget, the same way he had with Soulsborne, we might just have the modern Lord of the Rings before us. Maybe he'll be a fresh breeze for Hollywood, like he was for gaming.

Probably not, but this is the one guy I'm shamelessly fanboying.

Everyone in this thread is wrong. The movie will be super fucking badass and it will take over the world. Also George RR has made some of the best fantasy lit, tv shows, and the best game ever made. The lore is deep and interesting. The game is beyond popular. The man is beyond popular. Yet you hate him because he doesn't finish a work that everyone knows is old and stale because he wants to maximize his time on this Earth doing interesting things. Thank goodness he does that and doesn't do what you people tell him to do, because we will get much better content this way.

First two minutes of the movie:

<very fast> Mohg, Margit, Margott, Miquella, Malenia, Melina, Marika, Renna, Rennala, Ranni, Radahn, Radagon, Rykard, Rogier, Godrick, Godfrey, Godwin, Gideon, Goldmask, Sellen, Seluvin.

George was a marketing ploy. His involvement in the game is completely irrelevant.

Whoever has the rights should hire one of the YouTube channels that summarizes the lore in a digestible way.

I would be more interested if was anime by Wit studio and done same style as Vinland Saga then I wouldn't mind.

If their making a movie JUST DO VYKES STORY…Dont try to make a film about the Players Tarnished or something like that and then just abridge the whole experience, just make a nice self contained story like Vykes.
Hell a movie about the Night of Black Knives and the slaying of Godwyn could be awesome.
But yeah if they MUST do a film about the Tarnished it should be a LOTR style trilogy. Thats the only way to do it.

I get the sense they Martin would rather be the last player of Concord rather than finish the books that made his entire net worth.

Gonna be the shortest script in history.

Get Robert Eggers to direct and you will have a beautiful synergy of art and silent / environmental storytelling.
