FromSoftware's Next Game Could be Its Most Ambitious Yet | Rumor Wave (George R.R. Martin?)

When you are so dismissive of the show in a thread that isn't about the show, while also being so clearly ignorant about the actual show and books, it's hard to not interfere that you have a desire to be dismissive for the sake of being dismissive.

My assertion that 99% of TV series are episodic with a continuous open narrative for various characters in nature isn't based on facts?

Well, I don't know which TV series you know, but pretty much the inmense majority of them fit those standards, which are the standards by what a soap opera is defined. Maybe it's a 98%? 95%? 90%? I don't know.

I mean, I'm sorry you picked up a term you don't even know to be dismissive of the show and now you can't even backpedal about it.

I guess the show being a brutal success in Europe and South/Center America doesn't count. America is the whole world and there isn't piracy there, apparently.

I love that you think that you are not on a side, you are just a free thinker that just happens to go really out of his way to trash the show in the most condescending manner he can, while showing clear signs of ignorance of both the books and the show.

I get it, when something becomes this big, it's going to have a myriad of people anxious to tell the world how they hate that thing everybody talks about, but that don't want to actually go through the work of watching the show or read the books to have their right to trash it. I've done the same myself, it's a very human behaviour.

For every action there's a reaction, you are just part of the universe holding it's balance. I also happen to hate the Golden State Warriors. They are the McDonalds of that silly thing that you play in America, that soccer with hands sport that stops the game every 50 seconds for some reason.

And criticising someone's personality is your answer to that?

Neither you nor anyone else knows how the show will be viewed in a few years. The 20 million or so that watched the finale doesn't even compare to the 100 million that watched M.A.S.H. when it ended -- And that series is mostly remembered for being great at the beginning but crawling up it's own arse by the end.

The Cosby Show was huge once. So was Dallas.
An so was Family Ties! -- and barely anyone remembers that aside from it being the show that Michael J fox started on!

Saying something isn't your cup of tea is just a catch all excuse.
You can enjoy something and still know it's not great -- I eat at Mcdonald's, but I would never pretend it was some sort of fine dining.
Imagine comparing M.A.S.H. and those classic American sitcoms to a worldwide phenomenon known as Game of Thrones. M.A.S.H is a legendary show and I would argue that anyone who dismisses its greatness shouldn't be taken seriously. That's why dismissing GoT as a "flavor of the month" show is by far the most ridiculous thing I've heard all week (and I've heard some ridiculous shit, especially some of the dialogue from GoT's finale). To say I was attacking his personality would be disingenuous, I was attacking his opinion on the show and the way he rationalized those thoughts.

Fuck that nonsense. That dickhead should be posting that stuff over here. At least we have real gamers that give a shit here, unlike the undeserving self-hating shitheels at reeee

I know I've kept you all waiting since my first post in this thread and teased you plenty with my hype. You've been (mostly) patient and quite curious so here it is. I want to preface this by saying that these are my personal thoughts and opinions, to take that as you will. But I hope that this will hold you guys over until announcement and that it was worth the hype, waiting, teasing and jebaiting.

It's difficult for me to even find where to begin. But I guess I should start by saying that I've been a fan for quite some time and love these games to bits, even if I love some more than others. But even in saying that, after playing through each game there are a number of things I've always wanted to see Fromsoft add or experiment with in terms of gameplay and world design. Things I figured would maybe show up once here or there. But with this title it feels like all of my wishes have been granted and then some. Pretty much everything I ever could have wanted them to add is here. Finding out about many of these things has been like being taken to a toy shop as a kid, expecting to pick one of your favorite toys out and then getting told you can have all of them. Any time I think about the game I just get so incredibly happy that it puts a smile on my face and I get a bright feeling inside. It's like a certain kind of High that is just absolutely Fantastical for me. Which I'm sure might sound odd to some, but I can only hope that once you guys see and find out more you'll share in my excitement

And quite honestly, I think a lot of people will. I love watching the silly videos people create and put up on Youtube doing wild stuff in these games and I can only begin to imagine what kind of wild stuff people will be able to put together with this title and its new systems and the many hours and journeys fans will spend immersing and fully projecting themselves into this world, playing the way they want to. Especially since this is easily From's most immersive world yet filled to the brim with secrets and stuff From has never done before in multiple areas. I expect fans to have experiences of being drawn into eyecatching locales like a sailor drawn to a siren while other darker things roam, lurk, skulk and stalk just out of view. In a world that's lathered with old school inspirations that would have D.b.weiss & David benioff taking up a whole Tabletop to draw its lifeline and heritage. And don't worry, you'll get plenty of weird, dark and bizzare things so typical of From here too.

I'm also aware that many of the communities that From has fostered over the past decade have felt left out by Sekiro. For those people I can say that you won't be left behind here, and I don't just mean that in terms of the existence of certain things like fashion, but also the abundance and creativity of what's being offered here, perhaps moreso than in the past. Much of what you'd like and have come to expect is here. I'm sure plenty of people will love being able to show off their threads while battling alongside or against other warriors and scoundrels. Whether you're a Social Cat Or Titan, this Land is yours to explore.

In addition to that for people who are more like me, people who like to explore and discover these worlds, lore hounds and solitary soldiers. You'll have so much to dig into and search for, there's plenty of Unearthed Knowledge for you to write your paragraphs of theories about. If you love level design and that's one of your favorite things about these games as it is mine, then you've got nothing to fret about either. Interconnected design is larger and deeper than ever and archaeologists and spelunkers might just be in for their biggest playground yet.

To me, it feels like From is firing on all cylinders here and if you've enjoyed From's recent output over the past decade and are open to New things then I feel like you'll get exactly what you would want out of the project like this. It's not just a side step off the beaten path(though there will be plenty of that), but a culmination of everything they've done and an evolution leading to a new beginning. And for the first time I really and truly don't know what else I could want out of a game like this aside from just more. More of everything that's being offered here. This is easily the biggest thing From has ever done, and to me feels like magnum opus material. I'm sure other people will still have their favorites, but for me, this is everything I could have asked for and more.

Though I should also mention that I think people expecting battles between lions, wolves, stags and giddorah's might end up disappointed, there is no Feast for Crows here (Though for people grabbing their horned helms, gjallarhorn's and carving runes into their shields may end up feasting on crows to say the least).
And remember, this journey doesn't end with E3, this is only the beginning, so don't expect to be fully satiated just yet. But I hope this hype train will carry us there, and back again, rain or shine. And trust me there is plenty more to discover and get excited over ;) . Fear not the feast my friends, for I have laid breadcrumbs a plenty, and let the hype begin.

Someone can explain to me what we are supposed to be exited? Besides a new and bigger FS game

There sure are a lot of not so great posters there, among some really cool, level headed folks too though. The not so great ones report you to the mods when they can't win an argument. The shit people get banned for there is absolutely laughable, it's just sad really.

Of course it's good to have rules and limits, but they go waaaaaay overboard with those there. I feel here it's more chill, more is allowed, in no way people here are as insanely sensitive as there.

from the sound of this, it sounds really cool. just the rumors i have heard so far. they hint at a large open world that you traverse by horse with multiple kingdoms. when you defeat one of the kingdom bosses you get their power. i imagine that there will be horse bound combat, seeing as From has been expanding the combat (and traversal) a great deal with Sekiro. i think it is likely we will have the chance to go swimming, exploring rivers, underwater caves, fighting monsters in the sea, etc. i really hope that mechanic is included.

as far as theme? nobody is sure yet. people have said nordic but no confirmation. whatever they do i bet there will be swords and axes and dungeons and dragons.

so maybe we will have an expertly crafted open world, which doesn't look generic and dull but has tons of careful consideration for grand fantasy imagery and lush, meaningful world design. i don't see them falling into traps like random fetch quests all over the place or copy pasted dungeons. anytime there is combat, it will be the amazing From series combat, which IMO has just gotten better and better. all of this sounds like a tall order, but it will be incredible to see if they can pull it off!

It sounds great to me to be honest. It sounds like there will be new gameplay systems/features we haven't had before in a From game, the world is filled to the brim with secrets and stuff From has never done before.

It sounds like fashion Souls is back, so that's nice too. He has several words in a middle of a sentence written with a capital first letter, he definitely did that on purpose. Those are hints, I've no idea though. For me this is enough, I'll wait for the Xbox show now.

Souls style gameplay with meaningful lore and wonderful character building from GRRM? I'm in.

Martin is the *worst* fit for video game design ever. As an auther he has many talents- but *imagination* is not one of them.

Aside: now we get the dribblers who like 'A story of ice and fire'- 'cept that these dribblers do *not* know that the whole point of this cycle is that it contains *zero* imagination. Instead Martin, smartly, uses *real life* events from Human History to create the pleasing big beats in his story. Recently listened to Martin's infamous SF short stories (Sandkings may be the most famous). They are excrutiatingly awful- as SF tends to be from non-SF writers.

Martin is actually a skilled screenplay writer (which is why GOT was made in the first place- the first three novels literally read like scripts for a TV show). He understands the needs of TV and film. But games are a very different kettle of fish.

Maybe a classic open world adventure could benefit from Martin's eye for character, plot and storytelling. Given the ultra low standards in such games, it couldn't hurt.

However a dev known for game design (where narrative barely matters), the focus should be on code and gameplay. I know there was a 'story' in the jap Geralt game, but honestly I didn't care save for the flavour it gave the world. All I cared about was how cool it was to play the japanese white wolf, and how fun the jap version of his world was to conquer.

Mind you this being said, maybe Martin is useful after all. Cos if Witcher could be translated into a cool other form (legally, of course), Martin can probably find another cool IP he can legally morph into another inspiring form.

Standing on the shoulder of giants is a very good tactic. Betas 'think' everything good should be 'original'. But in reality 99.9% of that which is great is actually a clever refinement of something that already exists.

Not to be a dick, but is a writer like GRRM really a good fit for a studio that's been passing off simple looped animations and monologued VO's as "character interaction" for the last 10 years?

I like how these games are based on archetypes, like knights, ninjas and now maybe vikings.

What would their take on pirates be like? Dark Souls on the high seas, a fantasy world with pirates, sort of like Pillars of Eternity 2.
