FRONT MISSION 3: Remake launches June 26 on Nintendo Switch

I adored this game so much growing up. Actually played through it completely about five years ago, so somewhat recently, and man does it hold up great. Just an absolutely outstanding story and great TBS game in general. Will definitely get this at some point.

Looking forward to it. But won't be getting it on Switch, will wait for the PS5 release, because then most of the bugs and poor performance of the Switch version will be fixed(Speaking of experiece, the Switch versions of 1 and 2 were very rough at release).

I'm pretty happy though, I imported the PS5 versions of 1 and 2 from Japan.

I'm still pissed that the second game's physical release here was handled by Limited Run. Will probably be more of the same for this one.

I imported the PS5 version of FM2 from Japan, which is fully in English. Same with FM1. You can get them both physically for very cheap at the moment. Looking forward to playing 3, I'll get that physical as well once it releases. LRG can go fuck themselves also.

I got the NA release of the first game, and my OCD is gonna go haywire if the second and third games don't have English on the spine.

I'll probably just pick up all three games when I'm in Japan.

The only one I've played.
Are the games connected or all self contained stories?
I wasn't especially good at 3, but I'm keen to revisit this.

SE talks a lot about Multiplatform strategies, but they keep doing the same stuff all over again.
As much as I love to dunk on Square Enix for their dumb decisions, I don't think they're the ones making the call on this one. These remakes are developed and published by Forever Entertainment, they're essentially just licensing the games and IP from Square Enix.

Here's an interesting article / interview they did last year when Front Mission 2 launched that kind of explains that Square isn't really involved outside of them consulting people at SE to make sure that the game, which was localized for the first time, had lore accuracy within the series.

To this point, Forever approached Square Enix with the proposal of remaking the first three Front Mission titles. She says that their past successful remake releases helped with those negotiations.

"While working on remakes, we are in constant contact with IP owners; this ensures the balance between introducing quality-of-life changes and preserving the essential elements of the original game. Our aim is to make the game accessible to newcomers to the series while retaining the depth and detail that are iconic to the Front Mission series."

Ginter explains that Forever received guidance from Square Enix during the development process. However, it also consulted various Japanese-language sources, including the original game guides, to ensure the strategy RPGs were consistent with the franchise's lore. While working on these remakes, the publisher was also aware that it had to meet expectations.

EDIT: in this same interview, they explain why they release games primarily on the Switch:

Regarding the target audience for remakes, Ginter says that the Switch serves as the go-to console for Forever's releases.

"Until now, our remakes have focused on games from Japan, and Japanese gamers have shown great excitement for our updated versions of classics. In terms of platforms, we consider the Nintendo Switch as the ideal platform for various classic remakes. We appreciate the accessibility of the Nintendo Switch. With a diverse user base, our games can reach a broad audience, including those who may not have encountered classics like Front Mission or Panzer Dragoon before."

It makes sense considering the huge Switch installbase in Japan.

Nintendo themselves also made a major investment in Forever Entertainment. Like, I don't think they own them outright, but there's definitely a major financial relationship there, which would explain it as well.

When does this come to pc?
No release date has been announced, but for reference the second game released on Switch October 5, 2023 and was later released on PC / PS5 / Xbox on April 30th, 2024.

So probably a six-month exclusive again would be my guess. So, December-ish.

Oh if this gets a LRG release in the west that can fuck right off.

Thanks for the tip, if I go physical, that will be my path.

Not gonna lie, it looks MUCH better from the previous trailer.

Rather than calling it a remake, it's something between remaster and remake, pretty much 1:1 work, but I'm not complaining.

Still haven't opened the first game and I'm still looking for a physical copy of 2 but I like the feel of this version. Front Mission 3 on PS felt way too slow to me.

Nice! wonder if the 3d character models will look good. They need to show remake Emma and Alisa's 3d character models in another trailer!

Hopefully Emma and Alisa's 3d character models will look close to their respective character design art:

dang, they even still include the internet too, <3
this game brings me lot of memories, although not my best FM.
by this, i think they someday will release 4 or maybe 5 too

Destroying giant robots piece by piece in this game was so satisfying. The soundtrack is also great. Hopefully they redrew the little human figures when pilots are ejected to look like the actual character in question, instead of a generic pilot in an orange suit.

Also, Kazuki needs a different main portrait, but I don't see that they changed that.

I've always loved the series. I remember going through great lengths to play 5, which is excellent. They seem to be injecting new life into the series with these remakes since the disaster that was Evolved. Such a missed opportunity, I've always wanted a good action take on Front Mission and never could play the Online version, which I heard was excellent.

Saw a screenshot with Mayer 3d character model, looks not bad from behind, wonder on the face lol

Hot take, but I hope they skip 4 and go on to 5.
It's the only mainline FM to never have an official release outside of Japan.
I never played 4 though, so I hope it gets a rerelease as well, for entirely selfish purposes mind you lol. Isn't 4 a PS2 game? If it is, I imagine just an upres/increased frame rate rush job is all we're gonna get, if anything, based on how they're clearly not throwing big bucks at Front Mission, but I'm still very excited to play through the whole series as I've only played, and loved, 3.
