Damn.....47 was AWESOME!

I haven't enjoyed an anime like this since my first run through of Cowboy Bebop :D

Things are getting damn intense too......this is going to be one hell of a finale.

I gotta admit,
Pride+Al
creeped me out a little bit. :lol

Next ep looks downright amazing (been saying that for the last couple. :lol)

The preview did hint at something...

I really did say "holy fucking shit" when
R/Lan Fan showed up and sliced Gluttony to smithereens.
:lol

Fun fact: that was such an "oh shit" moment that I immediately stopped reading the manga and decided to save the rest for Brotherhood. I have no idea what happens after that page.

Final OP/ED starts on 4th April:

OP - Rain by Sid
ED - Ray of Light by Shouko Nakagawa

Yes, the final OP is by the group that did the first ED. Whatever. FMA:B is also confirmed to end in June this year.

Cool a new song of Shouko Nakagawa :) I like 涙の種、笑顔の花 of her.

Where is the anime upto in relation to the manga?

I can't belive I've left this on the backburner and now I have 45+ episodes to watch now. :/

Edit: Just saw the quote above hot damn the anime is going faster than I had anticipated. *rolls up sleeves*

You should only watch anime if you like it, it's not a mandatory.

I watched a chunk of the original FMA, so I originally planned to jump in when Brotherhood stayed on the path of the manga where the original veered off.

But I got lazy and 40 episodes later...

Brotherhood is so much better then the previous anime version of FMA. The beginning is just the same but it gets better.

For 47, I just wonder if they could have done the
pitch black in another way. Having the characters constantly mention how dark it is was kind of strange.

Seriously? Well then, you're about to find out why Mustang's the third main then. ;)

This arc is so awesome i'm even lost which "oh shit" moment you're talking about. Could you drop hints? At least name the characters it concerns and I should guess which one you mean:D

Dude, there are even more "oh shit" moments to come. But definitely the one from the newest ep. is for sure
RanFan's return and then slicing up Gluttony
.

I know, I know, but now they've seemingly slowed down to one chapter per episode, and I liked what should happen at the end of 48 much much more.
Spoilers for 48:
Pride becomes such a beast after that:D

Probably my next "oh shit" moment will be...
Heinkel killing Kimblee. Which then leads to Pride 'eating' Kimblee after having eaten Gluttony. But the major one will be Mustang's curbstomping of Envy
.

I'm following what's being shown on AS, and so far, I like way the original progressed so far. it feels like Brotherhood is trying to rush to the new stuff.

The first couple of episodes is basically assuming that the viewer has either watched the original series and/or read the manga. But once you get past all of the re-hashed stuff does the show get better - much better.

Because that's what they've done. They've rushed the stuff already covered in original anime (first 13 episodes correspond to ~30 of original), and after that it's progressively slowing down. All in all it'll be 63 episodes, and once you watch Brotherhood you will never ever want to go back. Believe me.

I forsee people here will keep saying "next episode will be HUGE" until the end of the series from now on :lol Seriously, too many awesome shit keeps happening.

Definitely. For me, this last arc is basically like a clinic for others on how to effectively wrap up a series. The build-up is so good because you're left going, "there's no way this can be topped..." until the very next moment. :D

The best thing about the final arc is that it simply keeps on getting better and better. Every single next part is even more awesome than the preceding one:D

I guess, but I still like the ending to the first series (the movie doesn't count!). I really liked the part where Rose was dancing with Ed for some reason. but that is besides the point.

I thought the ending to the first series was well-done (we really didn't need the movie, but it did provide final closure for the series) but I honestly can't go back to the first series and watch it in its entirety as Brotherhood is just so much better to me.

I'd say, the first time I watched the original series I really liked the ending. I really did. It was quit an interesting approach (well, except for Conqueror of Shallmbalblablamala). But now, after experiencing manga and Brotherhood, my opinion of it has been crushed. I've recently tried watching one of the later episodes and I couldn't make it. It was simply impossible for me to watch anything of it.
Go on with the Brotherhood for now. Even if you find it uninteresting at first, drag yourself through first season. It is oh-so-worth-it.

Edit: Auron_Kale, please, stop reading my mind :(

Okay, haven't seen ep. 47 yet since the official French sub comes out every Saturday, but since people are talking about "oh shit" moments, am I the only one thinking Grumman is really badass in ep. 46? I like how he's all "fuck it,
why don't we just shoot at Bradley with our cannons or something?
", and his "gotcha" moment at the end of the episode.

Without spoiling me 47 and further, is he done playing his part, or does gramps show he's still got some more tricks up his sleeve?

So this is 52 episodes right? Been going through my mind since the half way point...but they slowed this shit down to a crawl so it feels like they can milk it for the movie/OVA(Or finale months down the road) that will come out well after the show. Feels like they are going to have a major blue ball moment at 52

They should have done it like in the old cartoons where only the characters' eyes are visible in pitch black.

There's a little bit of him in this episode, but that's not what's blowing everyone's minds. If my memory of the manga is correct, you'll see some more of him in a bit.

Speaking of this episode, I thought it was done very, very well. I hope that they've saved a lot of their animation budget for the coming episodes, because they're going to need it.

Note to all the people following the dub: even if you feel like it's going too quickly, or is too similar to the original series, or there's too much stupid comic relief, stick with it. It gets awesome. Really awesome.

Nah, the pacing's on-track as Brotherhood will be ending in June while the manga itself is almost finished as well. So no chance of it dragging like OP or Naruto.

What? :lol Pacing in this anime has been some of the best I've ever seen.

I thought it's been terrible once they hit Fort Briggs. I don't have too much worry about the finale since so much does happen there. But this lead up has been brutal.

Pacing was par for the manga though, so I didn't really have a problem with it.

Yeah, or something. I understand why they did it the way they did... hell, I imagine the manga didn't even have an option and had to keep reminding the reader about how everything was pitch black. But oh well.

Nah, it's pretty awful. Probably why most fans in Japan stopped watching, and don't bother to buy the DVD/Blu-rays either. FMA:B is quite a failure.

Pretty much, considering in the manga, it looked like it was nighttime - but much of the surrounding environment was in lighter shades. After the blackout, everyone kept saying how dark it is.

That's pretty sad. What else are people watching, though? Hopefully it does better over here. But with the way that Adult Swim segregates anime from the rest of its lineup, I doubt it will.

On an unrelated note, the music that played at the end of episode 47 was pretty awesome.

Before the Briggs Arc: "Dammit, this pacing is way too fast. They're skipping all the good scenes. Stupid Bones"

During and after the Briggs Arc: "Dammit, this pacing is way too slow. They're dragging all the scenes out. Stupid Bones"

Bones just can't win, can they?

Actually things have been fine since Briggs IMO.

What pisses me off the most about this series:
#1: Butchering of the Greed arc, which is probably one of the 5 most popular volumes of FMA
#2: Butchering of the Ishval arc, which is probably THE most popular volume in FMA
#3: Removal of a major battle for no real reason (Lan Fan + Ling vs. Gluttony and Envy during the time of the events of episode 19, with Pride making an appearnce to scold Envy and Gluttony for letting invaders underground). This is the battle where Ling and Lan Fan first show their homunculi sensing abilities, and just how much ass they can kick.
#4: the music. Jesus christ they've been skimpy on the # of tracks for this series, and they overuse waaay too many tracks. We heard a new track in ep 47, and I think it is the first new track since, uh, ep 25-ish (and even then, I think maybe 7 or 8 new tracks have been introduced since episode 15).
#5: Odd pacing decisions, related to #1-#3. The oddest choices are made on what to cut and what to leave in and/or expand on. I think half of it was done in order to get Ed into every episode, and half of it was done because the director is a rookie who doesn't know what the hell he's doing.

Even though I say the pacing is okay since Briggs, it has still felt a bit "off" compared to the manga. And that falls on the director.

pirata said:

One Piece and Dragon Ball Kai.

Greed arc has been pretty much the same in original anime, except for his death.
With music I can agree.
The battle between Lan Fan and Ling vs. Gluttony and Envy - now I'm stumped why everybody thinks it was so major. It wasn't even the focus of the chapter it was in, it took under 10 pages between the beginning and the end, and we still learned that they can sense homunculi when it was needed.
Briggs arc did partially drag on (imo eps ~34-35 to 40 were too slow), but now the pacing is just fine.

Bones just can't win, can they?

That just shows how crappy the adaptation is though. Not all events are made equal. Some show be faster, some should be slower. When you speed through character development, flashbacks and introduction events making them lost their dramatic effect, that's bad. When you drag on what is clearly a bridging arc and slow story movement to a halt simply because you have more episodes than manga material left, that's bad. Bones can't win because they don't deserve to win. Brotherhood is a waste of time. They got it right the first time.
