@ grandjedi What was the "wow" moment in this ep that made you stop reading the manga? It was a great ep, but I didn't think there were any standout "wow" moments.

Next episode looks epic.
I don't know what he meant, but I remember being quite impressed by Pridony :)

Gluttony's fate rather surprised me and all. It really seemed to open up a whole sort of possiblities and was a game changer. But, Uh... I might have.. overhyped it... just a bit ;)

And, btw, Al's new voice actor was great last night in Episode 5.
I just saw it online and you're totally right. The voice actress really has grown into the role like I hoped. Pretty much a perfect Al now. In fact, Al's rant was the highlight and I loved his little sarcastic aside during the rant :lol

I can't remember if that sarcasm was actually a part of the Japanese original or not, but regardless it was an awesome addition. And speaking of awesome additions from that dub episode....

:lol :D

For those of you who only watched the first anime and have never experienced the manga storyline before, expect Mustang to have a far, far bigger role.

I don't see why I am allowed to post negative comments about the show. Does me shitting on the show make you like the show less? Why does it piss you off? Am I telling anyone here to not watch the show or to stop liking it? It seems to be the reverse: I'm shitting on the show, and everyone is trying to defend the show and convince me that I am wrong. I'm not convincing anyone here that it is a bad show, I am simply stating my opinion that it is a bad show.

Yeah, it's far more entertaining than this piece of shit, that's for sure.

You asked for it, you opened the box which cannot be closed now. :(

Duck, you can't get ticked at someone who likes the show who says 'If you don't like it, you must have bad taste' and then turn around and rag on the show so much in a thread designed for it.

Wouldn't that get someone flamed in a thread for a video game from a well-known, generally well-liked company (i.e. FFXII)?

I should also mention that I'm not completely unbiased on my opinion, as I like the show.
Poor Gluttony.

about last night's episode, the part where Granny and Winry attacted Ed's new automail was a lot less serious than the original series.

and wasn't there another episode before this that had a young girl steel Ed's leg for her grandfather in the original series? I'm sure it took place before they got back home.

They replaced the part where Al's body was stolen and worn by that guy with meeting Marcoh a lot earlier.

Good episode though, Armstrong's woodcutting was even more epic, although the little cutaways of him and Winry brought back memories of James and Jesse from Pokemon:/

I don't remember it being in the manga so I guess it was another filler. First season of original anime had tons of fillers, approximately 50%.

Filler.

If you remember it being in the first anime, but it isn't in brotherhood, chances are that it was first-anime original filler*

*Exclusions: visit to Youswell, the Train hijacking, and Sig and Armstrong becoming friends through their muscles. Also, some scenes are modified in Brotherhood because they want to get through them more quickly

Now that anime/manga companies are doing a decent job in this instance, subbers can go fuck themselves.

Free professionally subbed episodes mere days after their release in Japan?

Yes, please.

Limited time only? no way. Fansubs win until you can own your own.

You are replying to a 11 month old post with the implication that even when given something for free, you'd still rather steal it.

Funi has been surprisingly pragmatic about Brotherhood, but there are still a couple things you could fault them for. In particular, there's no option for HD, and the commercial breakups can be annoying coming from fansubs. If there was an option to watch them all before the episode, I'd rather have that instead - even 5 minutes of solid commercials pales in comparison to the amount of time spent downloading from a torrent.

But, again, I think Funi surprised a lot of people with the setup they have going and it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Now, if we could only lower those DVD prices and put more eps on them...

Their One Piece support is far more impressive. I wish they did that instead. Well, One Piece method in HD and I'd be in heaven.

Subbed stream 1 hour after the episode airs in Japan. Really the only way to beat fansubbers is by being faster than them. Quality is standard def which sucks because I love animation in HD, but you can't beat the speed and convenience.

How do they do that?
They'd obviously receive the episode before it airs in Japan... It's not like these are finished a minute before they go on TV. Hell, the first time they tried it they had it unprotected on their servers a few hours (or was it a day?) before :lol Toei was furious and they weren't able to have it up and going until months later.

You don't watch One Piece? Don't you watch Naruto and Bleach? How do you watch Naruto and Bleach but not One Piece :(

I don't watch Naruto and I only watch the Bleach OPs (then I mute.) Never got onto One Piece, the plot didn't seem to go anywhere in the eps I watched.

In my opinion, the show is total shit for 20 episodes and then picks up fast. They take a while to introduce all the characters. First 13 episodes are on the official site if you have the time. Or use Kaizoku Fansubs to catch up.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Runtime: 325 minutes;

aka 13 episodes per part.

Long gone are the days in which one buys an anime DVD/blu-ray with only 4 episodes on it..... except if you live in Japan. If you live in Japan you're still getting completely screwed over. But in NA, the market has changed and nowadays all of Funimations releases are about 13 episodes each.

Is this thread Spoiler free? I just hopped in for the first time. If not I'll try to go half and half with this.

Wow, I knew Hohenheim was good, but watching him do all that shit without even taking his hands out of his pockets.... I was expecting epic, but damn. I'm really excited to see him actually get serious, whenever that happens. How many more episodes is this supposed to run for?

One Piece is still my favorite anime at the moment, and I completely agree. I actually stopped watching around 12 or 13, and gave up. I forget why I picked it up again, but I was so glad I did.

13 eps is good but still low for my tastes. :p

Because watching from the middle is crazy talk! Ya gotta get invested in the characters! It's like watching FMA without knowing about what drives Ed or Al.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

Well, it's not completely spoiler-free, but it would be appreciated if you put your spoilers in tags. There are people watching the dub in this thread, too, you know.

And it runs for a total of 63 episodes.

Okay, I see there's some issue with spoilers now that Adult Swim is starting to show the series dubbed. The problem is that this series has been available LEGALLY in English to the same audience who would be able to watch Adult Swim, for almost a year now. There is an ongoing discussion as the series is still airing in Japan and all the places around the world which gets the same-week telecast/web stream. It's unfair that the rules would suddenly chance because of a dub airing on Adult Swim.

I feel in a case like this, it this no different from how the rules would be applied if a home video release for a movie or TV series is out - you either read and post in the thread after you're caught up, or you make a new thread about it catered specifically to people who are only following the new format of release. So yeah, I'm sorry dubbies, if you guys want someone should start a Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood on Adult Swim thread, and keep that one going as it airs. If you run into problems with people spoiling it there, let me know and I'll take care of it.

So far though, none of the dub watchers have complained. ::shrug::

StoOgE

First tragedy, then farce.
Just finished the last episode.. really good. I love how the good guys just keep kicking ass. I keep dreading the episode where things don't go there way because it has to be coming soon. There just isn't any way the next 15 episodes are all going to go rosy for them.

The scene where the sun came up and Al put his overcoat on was pretty epic. Certainly got the adrenaline going.. can't wait to see where it goes from here.

I keep forgetting to watch the shit after the end of credits.. so I was like "wait, Mustang captured who?" and had to watch the end of the prior episode again.

Also, guys watching the dub.. be warned, we've been given the all clear from the mods that the only thing that should be in spoilers at this point are things that spoilers from the manga.. there are a bunch of people in this thread talking about stuff 40+ episodes ahead of where you are without spoiler tags.

You know, I'd be willing to make a "dub only discussion" thread myself. Its just that someone still has yet to actually ask for it. I'm not going to make it if no dub watchers even want it.

I'm still fine discussing the dub here. Barry's back! Slightly different in that Ed chose to actually reveal what makes a Philosopher's Stone instead of trying to keep it secret.

I just watched episode 49. It was pretty good to see some of the fights in the manga animated. Though I think I will just wait for the blu-ray when it comes out instead of watching the other episodes. The dub is pretty good and I don't think Funimation will screw up the blu-ray release so all should be good.

Damn it, now I'm tempted to watch an episode in Cantonese just to hear what they did with it.

Latest seems to be episode 47. Ed is basically sounds like a woman... they didn't even bother having the voice actress try to sound like a pre-teen male. Outstanding. :lol

Edit: In Cantonese, Homunculus seems to be "person who pretends to be a person" (人做人 - ren zuo ren in pinyin... because I don't know jyutping :lol). That's not what it is in Japanese, is it?

He's actually 16, which I guess makes it worse...

Watched both ep. 7 (dub) and ep. 50 (raw) last Saturday (and yes, I've been watching both consistently since the last time I posted).

Ep. 7:
- Not sure if I like the pronunciation for Sheska in the dub... I've usually say 'Shee-ska' rather than their 'Sheh-ska', but it's a minor thing.

- Great to see Barry and Slicer, though on the fence about Barry's voice.

- Nice to see Denny and Maria again, voices were spot on.

Overall, the dub has been getting better with each episode - probably due to everyone warming back to their voices again.

Ep. 50:

- Fuck yes I've been waiting for Mustang's coup! This was absolutely one of my favorite moments in the manga.

- Rebecca! Maria! HAVOC! :D

- Olivier not taking the shit-talking from the higher-up. I so <3 her...

- Pride sending a message to Father... ah well.

- Ah Ed... I swear if Amestris soldiers were the voting panel for acting awards, you'd have already won several of them already...

- Hohenheim ready to face Father on his own, yeah...this'll be interesting

- Seeing and hearing the Zombie Doll Army in the episode versus what I had pictured in my head when reading the manga... Episode managed to make it sound worse and scarier than I thought it would.

Such an awesome ep. And next week is the new OP/ED. :D

Oh, I know, but at least the Japanese VA sounds male... sort of like how Bart Simpson sounds male.

It seems like between the English VA and the HK VA, we've manage to hit all extremes. :lol

Yay for new op and ed! I hope they are at least as good as the current ones, and I wonder about the animation... hopefully they won't regress to quality of 3rd op :<

As for the episode,
while they looked exactly as I've always thought, but the voices were.... incredible creepy. Their wailing sounded like something between shouting and crying, and it also kinda reminded me of crying children. Way better than what I've expected :<

Seriously.
I was kinda expecting it to be maybe more...zombie-like? But that scream... It reminded me of the Crimson Heads from REmake and probably something from Silent Hill... Completely creepy and so much better than I thought it'd be.

How far off is the manga from finishing? I'm kind of confused. If it's only 63 episodes, does that mean the manga will be done in the next couple of months and they're going to end at the same time? If someone knows the answer and could clear that up it would be awesome.

The manga is almost finished. It's probably got two or three more chapters at the most. I believe it will end at chapter 107 in May. That would give them enough chapters to have exactly 26 volumes with four chapters each. The last couple chapters have been about about 20 pages longer than a regular chapter, so two chapters should be plenty to finish it.

Manga will most likely end with chapter 108 in june. The last episode of brotherhood should air 2-3 weeks later, at the end of june.
