Fun Fact: Final Fantasy X was originally going to be about a virus that kills everyone at 17. Sounds eerily similar to another game, doesn’t it?

Final Fantasy X originally wasn't going to be a Final Fantasy game at all, but a series called 'Seventeen.' The story revolved around a recent unknown disease that killed people on their seventeenth birthday. Yuna would have had the role of a doctor/nurse that went around giving the disease's cure to its inspected victims. It is eventually revealed that the 'cure' was in fact the source of the disease, and that it was established by the company that Yuna was working for to rule the world, by claiming that they were the only ones that could provide the cure in the first place. It is unknown what role Tidus and Auron would have had, if they were even thought out as characters in the first place. That being said, some of these concepts could have been made for Seventeen and not FFX

We need that FFX remake. I don't understand why S-E (and many of their fans) haven't embraced the idea of remaking FF 6 through 10. DQ games have received so many remakes. Konami is remaking MGS and Silent Hill. Capcom has found huge success with RE remakes while also doing new entries. I know remaking the PS1 REs is an easier task than remaking the PS1 FFs but still…. I feel like S-E has a "fine, if we absolutely need to do it, we'll remake FFVII". They should be open minded to doing more than VII and maybe not drag out a remake of 8 or 9 or 10 over multiple entries. I think fans need to be a bit less harsh about these projects not being 1:1 remakes also.

Add Chrono Trigger and Xenogears to this too

Logan's Run also uses the 'death at age x' idea.

The plot outlined in the OP also has similarities with Deus Ex and, more recently, with the covid scamdemic.

Before FFX came out, was a TV series called The Tribe. A show where everyone over 18 died and the kids formed factions. It's been in countless manga/anime shows as well. Not an original premise at all. Expedition 33 killed it with the concept though.

Logan's Run already had a remake though it's called 'The Island'.
Oh wait - we're not talking randomly about IPs that need a remake are we.

Seriously though - this isn't the most novel of sci-fi concepts (well over 50 years old, IIRC Logan's run wasn't the first either) and it's been used by many mediums and stories since.
Did people think Claire invented it or something?

Please just give me a single game remake of FFX on PS6 on UE5/UE6 as my last ever game, whilst there's still a market for it.

The next generation have all been raised on Fortnite, Roblox and Minecraft and after next-generation its looking very bleak for narrative games and JRPGs.

I want the FFX Remake to be a last chopper out of saigon game to sign off on.

Lol, of course it'd be 17 because JRPGs cannot grow out of high school. It wasn't until FF XVI that we got a protagonist over the age of 30. Old man Noctis doesn't count.

We almost got that in FF12. Then they chickened out of having Basch be the main character and gave us Vaan lol

Edit: Went back and double checked. Matsuno denied the story.

Literally nobody thinks Clair Obscur invented it. Just an interesting parallel between CO and one of its biggest influences.

In some alternate universe, weebs are arguing about how it's ok for Seventeen to have sexualized child characters because they're in a world where they die before reaching adulthood.

This was also the plot of an early SG-1 episode, they probably watched it before coming up with the idea

Yeah. I was just going to say, not sure how that's supposed to work out logistically. Weeb sexual ethics aside, how long has this death at 18 thing been going on, and who is even raising these babies?

I haven't played Expedition 33, but (aside from making a whole lot more sense) the countdown element adds a layer of existential dread to it that just having a set expiration date, even at 17, wouldn't do.

Really though, the two concepts aren't even that similar. The fact that X didn't actually follow that path notwithstanding, I would say most JRPGs have more stark similarities than that. *shrug*

Na.

VII remake is trash. Square's already doin everything in their power to destroy their legacy and you're wantin to throw em in the car pool lane.

I thought that was the core concept of E33, featured in every trailer from the announcement onward. It's not really a spoiler if it's part of the elevator pitch.
I was fortunate enough to play E33 completely blind, and the whole Gommage thing at the beginning caught me off-guard and totally got me hooked on a game I was not really interested in. Honestly nothing afterwards hit me that hard, unfortunately.
