Naito should be fine, it's only the Korakuen & Osaka crowds that seem to have a problem with him - I don't think Honma's winning though, as Naito has a win over AJ and will likely be in line for a title shot at some point. He's not in the best position to put Honma over.

It'd be a nice attaboy but they don't exactly do those in that godless land of Japan. If Naito was somewhere that he was hated, a Honma win would be like Bryan @ Mania 30 style.

is it normal to throw everyone in random tag matches in NJPW?

Not just New Japan, it's pretty much a Japanese pro-wrestling thing - singles matches are usually saved for the big events. For instance, if you've got two wrestlers booked for a singles match at a big show later in the month, for the rest of that month those two wrestlers will face in tag matches to build hype for their singles bout. In the case of tomorrow's show, however, those first two matches are just random, thrown together tags - the 3rd one continues the never ending Suzuki & Iizuka vs Yano feud, while the 4th match is playing off Liger's loss to Adam Cole in ROH.

Yup. Random tag matches, especially for lower card and older wrestlers are like battle royals on WWE shows - it's a way to get guys on the card without having them work too hard. Thus, Captain New Japan & Liger in tag matches forever!

Man, I need to search for some avatars. Anyone got a good method to crop pictures to avatar size without distorting them?

what about random matches like this Shibata vs Goto or Naito vs Honma?

dont get me wrong, im hyped for both, but its...weird lol

edit: wish I was part of the bet, I would rock a Nak avatar proudly :(

The logic behind those 3 singles matches is to put two wrestlers together who were in separate blocks for the G1. Goto vs Shibata's happening because they're friends & rivals and this'll be the 5th match of their series - each has one win and two draws against the other, so far. Karl vs Ishii doesn't have any story to it, they probably just thought it'd be a cool match. Naito vs Honma is weird, because Honma's so over as the underdog you know the crowd won't be in Naito's favour. I'd love it if they turned Naito heel here.

I wish someone would explain that to Nakanishi. He really doesn't need to be doing some of the shit he does (plancha & missile dropkick especially), given his history of spinal injury.

as someone who just got into NJPW, who are some of the guys worth watching that werent in the G1?

Iota ibushi was supposed to be in, but he got a concussion right before. The TIME SPLITTERS (KUSHIDA and Alex Shelley) also. Most of their headliners were in the G1 though.

Yeah, the G1's just for heavyweights, very rarely will a Jr. will be entered in the tournament (Ibushi was supposed to be in it this year, Devitt was in it last year, Liger's been in it before, etc). The best Jr's at the moment are easily Ibushi & KUSHIDA, while BUSHI & El Desperado are a step or two behind them - tag team wise, TIME SPLITTERS are great fun, they should have an awesome match with reDRagon on tomorrow's show. There's also The Forever Hooligans (Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero), who the crowd really enjoy and The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson).

The rest of the roster's made up of veterans like Jushin Liger, Manabu Nakanishi, Tiger Mask, TAKA Michinoku, Jado, Gedo, etc, who either don't wrestle often or still wrestle regularly but in the undercard. And Captain New Japan, who isn't really explainable. Lastly, there's the promotion's Young Lions (rookie wrestlers) - both the current pair, Sho Tanaka and Yohei Komatsu are worth keeping an eye on. Komatsu especially looks to be a promising Jr's style wrestler, while Tanaka shows good fire as a rookie heavyweight. There's two others (Hiromu Takahashi & Takaaki Watanabe) currently with other promotions overseas on 'learning excursions', who should return to New Japan in the next year or so.

Here's a match or two worth watching;

KUSHIDA vs Ricochet - Best of the Super Jr's FINAL - (NJPW 2014/06/08)
The Young Bucks (c) vs TIME SPLITTERS (Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA) - IWGP Jr. Tag Titles - (NJPW 2014/06/21)
Kota Ibushi (c) vs Ricochet - IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title - (NJPW 2014/06/21)

The ring's going up in the Seibu Dome;

Goddamn, that place is HUGE. Really hope they can get it near capacity.

If this goes off as well as they hope, NJPW is set for a long long time.

That's 2 big shows they can do a year. They can stack the fucking deck better than even WWE here.

Also, how the hell did you all not pick Okada/Nak

both Makabe and now Naito in day 9 were turning blue from Suzuki's sleeper, that dude needs to chill out and remember this is fake :(

edit: Day 9 was ok, nowhere near 7 and 8 tho. feels like its winding down now, which would be understandable

Due to a deterioration of his jaw injury, Togi Makabe will miss tonight's G1 event. He will be replaced in his tag match by BUSHI.

After dealing with a cold for the past week, I'm looking forward to watch a show live. I hope I can last though.

EDIT: It is starting!
