I see none of them advocating for workers committees, collectivism nor coops.

Those shitheels are about as anarchist as crusties and squatters. They hide behind the ideology because it provides them with a platform for their "fuck the system" attitude, but they provide no alternatives nor work towards a different system. They are just there to break stuff.

I don´t disagree but they still need to stop these people somehow. I doubt they can just march into the crowd and pick out the bad apples. I see that going way worse for everyone.

I´m not trying to imply the Police do their job perfectly btw. I´m just tired of the narrative that the protesters that break stuff are just poor souls that were provoked and didn´t know better and talking to them would make them stop.

Literally thousands manage just fine with being civilised.

That works sometimes, but yeah, depending on the crowd it may not be possible. I still don't think that throwing tear gas if you can't is a sensible solution.

I also don't really understand why they allowed this particular demonstration to happen in the first place, when they forbid others. This particular one showed much danger of violence beforehand already.

Collectives, committees and coops are classic anarchism. The ideology (obviously) never intended the world to become a Mad Max type hellscape, just to break down the levels of power in society to a point where there are no power structures larger than small, voluntary groups and councils. Oppression would cease to exist by virtue of the tools of oppression being deleted.

You're actually right that it has much in common with communism - both ideologies spawned out of the same 19th century environment, and share a lot of values, but they differ in how they want to go about achieving their goals and what level or government is acceptable.

Violence has always been a part of anarchism. But it was much more acceptable in the early days when emperors and kings ruled Europe. It also used to target those same emperors and kings, as well as other figures of extreme power. The kind of meaningless, indiscriminate violence we see in Hamburg is a complete corruption of that.
 
The police announced days before everything started that they would pursue a strategy of escalation since that's apparently how Hamburg police rolls. With them talking about the situation having gotten out of control they're probably used to having more of a strength advantage...

Protests are not about catharsis. Non violence requires a great deal of discipline and restraint. The State welcomes petty violence since it allows to shut down the whole manifestation and discredit it. I know half are probably just police infiltrating the protests (probably less in Europe) but there's still assholes willing to put others in harms way and undermine the march taking place.

I really doubt this to be honest. They tried to keep all of those bookings a secret for security reasons, that's probably why.

But he's staying here, not a hotel but a villa owned by the city senate:

historically speaking they get along pretty well, but I know what you mean. I fondly remember Merkels relationship to Obama, what a pity we have Trump now.

another cool fact: I was raised in the 90's in Eastern Germany (well, Reunited Germany) and because they had so many Russian teachers still around, almost everyone could choose to learn Russian as a third language (after English and instead of french or Spanish). I did too!

The police is way to tame actually. The situation is unacceptable in some places, an officer had to fire a warning shot in the street when he tried to interfere with a robbery and was apparently threatened with violence by the robbers.
Mind you, until a german policeofficer fires a shot from his gun, a lot of shit has to go down.
