I should note that I own all 3 platforms but really don't touch the Wii, hence my lack of any Wii games. I own both handhelds but have not invested enough into them to put any of them on the list either.

And I think it's more fair to include yourself in this thread if you own at least 2 of the 3 next gen platforms. It would be more fair.

WOW. What a year. There are so many deserving games that didn't make the list, or come close to making the list. A LOT, of really good games. Smash, Wii Kart, Echochrome, Wipeout (that was this year, right?), MM9, Gears 2, Fable, Disgaea DS, FF4 remake, Valk Chronicles, Left 4 Dead...

Crazy Freakin Year.

Holy crap at MGS4 running away with this. I have never disagreed with gaf since this voting started, I gave MGS4 a 10. BUT I also gave LBP a 10 and I think LBP deserves it more this year, so for the first time gaf and I disagree.

Yeah, never underestimate the power of MGS fans on GAF. Though if LBP had sold more, I think it'd be on top. There's no real obvious choice (or big Nintendo game) this year, so it's being more spread out more than before. I'm only on page 3, but so far I've seen Rock Band 2, Fable 2, Mega Man 9, Mirror's Edge, Burnout Paradise, and Dead Space in the top 10 at some point or another.

I too would give each one a 10 - both are pretty much as close to perfect as you'll get in their respective "genres". I gave it to MGS because it's the end of the saga and the end of one of my favourite series.

This was a weird year. A slew of really good games, but I think it lacked any truly great games like we saw a lot of last year. 6-10 are all really close to both each other and to my honorable mentions, which I'll list here:

Fallout 3, Fable II, LittleBigPlanet, Grand Theft Auto 4, Geometry Wars Retro Evolved 2, Professor Layton, Castle Crashers, Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix, Devil May Cry 4, Audiosurf, Red Alert 3, Peggle Nights, Gears of War 2.
 
best year in recent memory, order is pretty much arbitrary, will undoubtedly leave some excellent games out, but:

4. little big planet

7. ninja gaiden 2
8. gears of war 2
9. armored core for answer
10. omega five
