[Musashi Wins!]

1. Little Big Planet - Beautiful and awe inspiring. Suffering from an undeserved cynicism, backlash and from being on an under performing console.

2. Fable II - Everything the first game pointed to but didn't accomplish. Incredible world, wonder and dog.

3. The Witcher: Enhanced Edition - Speaking of magnificent game worlds. I also love the protagonist.

4. MLB 08: The Show - Oh look, the best sports game, again.

5. Kings Bounty: The Legend - Bizarre, colorful interpretation of strategy and mirth. Love it.

6. Saints Row 2 - Sort of embarrassed by it, but totally taken in by the fun. And it is more fun than GTAIV.

7. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 DS - My handheld addiction.

8. Valkyria Chronicles - Would rise higher if I played more I think. Gorgeous and fun, not often how I describe console strategy titles.

9. Galactic Civ: Twilight of Arnor - Value goes crazy. The universe must be conquered.

10. Mercenaries 2 - It has faults and some bugs, but it has destructive, hectic moments that sometimes fulfilled the promise of the first in the series.

I may edit. On reflection, not the strongest of gaming years. Apparently I'm becoming a PC gamer for the first year since I pretty much started gaming. As much as I mock Sony, I've begun to really enjoy their exclusives. I really missed a lot of big releases. Too much going on in real life '08

I'd actually put the Killzone 2 beta down as my most awesome experience of the year - i'd still be playing that now if the servers were still up but don't think it's right to count it this year.
GTAIV sneaks on at the bottom as the first 3-4 hours were excellent but went completely to shit after that - wish they took another 6 months to actually finish it and not boot it out the door half-arsed and it may well have troubled my top 3

2) Megaman 9 (I love action platformers, and the gameplay and music here are top notch!)

3) No More Heroes (Objectively a shoddy game, but the boss battles where fun and the "true" ending put a smile on my face wich certanly counts for something)

4) Bionic Commando: Rearmed (Never played the NES version, great action platformer)

5) Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (Released in 2008 in the EU)

6) Noitu Love 2 (PC 2D Indy game)

7) De Blob (Nifty idea and execution, visuallypleasing and good sound/musical design)

8) God of War: Chains of Olympus (A good fighting game romp that truly pushed the PSP)

9) Patapon (Inovative gameplay and an original art style, the gameplay needed a bit of polish. But I forgave it in the end as it still was fun to play.)

10) Space Invaders Extreme (Space Invaders, but with more awsome bolted onto it.)

It's been a pretty crappy year for retail boxed games for me. Only Mirror's Edge and DQIV have been truly excellent; the others are just pretty good games filling out my top ten.
