AOTY: Section 80. Y'all know how i feel about this one. Lush beats contrasted with kendrick's goofy flow, plenty of variety, catchy and lyrical. I don't know where Kendrick wants to go from here, or really why exactly this is my aoty, but i do know that I've been spinning this shit all year. I just keep coming back to it on the reg, and probably always will. It's not perfect. But what is good is classic 5 mics quality from the golden era.
Rapper of the Year: Big KRIT. R4 was incredible, features were dope.... This guy's name is written in the hip hop stars. Don't give a fuck if he doesn't stack stacks, cause he cannot spit a verse that doesn't make me turn my head.
Producer of the Year: Alchemist. Covert Coup was dark and moody, haunting boom bap shit. Great contrast with Curren$y. Then he brought the heat again with Roc Marciano in Greneberg- a pairing that i thought had tons of grimy chemistry. He also contributed tracks to the new Wu, REKS, Cats & Dogs, Mobb Deep, and Royce. I can't see any other contender.
Song of the Year:
Ski Beatz-Amnesia. I don't know what it is. I dont know who these rappers are. There's something about this that tugs at my heartstrings though(classic Ski), and the beat is something i've been whistling for months. Runners up are Keisha's Song and New Day.
Verse of the Year: Gibbs on Scottie Pippens. If you haven't heard that shit, you might as well get out of the thread.
Hustler of the Year: Curren$y. I wanna give him the above award but i just CAN'T. He gave us 3 albums and more of quality, quality shit. Hardest working stoner emcee ever. However, he also fucked himself over a little by showing some lack of versatility in the 2nd half of the year, whereas KRIT i think can ride anything.
Rookie of the Year: Chuuwee. Came out of nowhere. I want more. Now.
Disappointment of the Year: Watch the Throne. Zombie Jay-Z, flashes of brilliance contrasted with tons of inane, overbearing carnival crap. Considering what it could have been maybe half a decade back is sad. The actual range of samples is erratic, and it makes the whole album sound like a mishmash of random shite. Some good tracks, so many skipped ones.
Embarassment to Hip Hop of the Year: Big Sean actually getting popular. He's kinda catchy, but....eggggh.
Comeback of the Year: DMX. It's starting this year, but itll happen. Believe.
