I can't believe I have to wait until Dec 20th to finalize my top 5 AOTYs.
Yep.

I have high hopes, but I'm not expecting it to take my AOTY. Though because everything I've heard from it thus far has been fantastic, it's almost certainly going to be in my top 10 I think.

Rap AOTY

IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES IT GOES YUH

Sacramento reppin.
This is some black evil shit. It's so full of grime and hell. It's one of those albums where I can only listen to the tracks at night to fully appreciate them.

Talking about Big KRIT's lyrics, the first two bars of The Vent really makes me rage:

A mother lost her child, I tried to ease her pain
It's only God's will, she said she felt the same.

The fuck is this? Anyway, most of the time I just roll my eyes and keep going on with my life, can't be bothered with lyrics like that, especially in rap, if I took everything seriously I would never listen to it :lol

no doubt dude's worked harder this year, but nothing past '03? Apollo Kids was just last year, and it was easily top 5 material.
high hopes for Supreme Clientele Presents... Blue & Cream: The Wally Era
Apollo Kids was gross, b.

1) Bulletproof Wallets OG
2) OB4CL (It's his album too)
3) Supreme Clientele
4) Ironman
5) Fishscale (Mostly for amazing production and some very solid verses, but plenty of mediocre ones and plenty of forcing Trife on the album, ugh).
6) Pretty Toney (Only because of Run... I would even argue that song makes it even higher)
7) Ghost Dini (Full of CLASSICS, so underrated)
8) More Fish
9) Apollo Kids

In dead last dude. Worst.

So sort of off-topic, but I saw The Sitter on Friday. Method Man is in it, first time I've seen him in a movie. It's a small role, but he's got a few lines and is the subject of a couple scenes; I thought he was really good in it.

He was the best part of the movie

Worst Toney list I ever seen right here.

Here's my unranked AOTY thoughts.

ASAP Rocky - LiveLoveA$AP

This is some shit I'd been needing. Being a huge Screw/Houston fan, huge bone fan, Clams Casino stan and a budding swag rap aficionado - this record really did it for me on every level.

Kendrick Lamar - Section80

I grew up on Section 8, so the title resonates. This is probably gonna be 1 or 1a for me, just a solid album, you know, a cohesive record. Not just 15 tracks. Kendrick really impressed me. I was down on him during O.D. and the whole build up, but the record just fucking kills. I wish I was in high school so I could rap along to this shit in a car full of my boys while we smoke a blunt.

Watch the Throne

Two of the illest in the game, make an ill ass record. Only reason it's not #1 with a bullet is because 2011 has so much new and great talent. It's worthy of #1 easily. Just an album that no other pair of guys could have pulled off. It exceeded all my expectations, and my crazy ass thinks Murder to Excellence is the weakest song on it!

Action Bronson MOTY and ROY

Still don't know which album I'd choose. Bon Appetite is the one I go to listen to when I'm in Bronson mood. Plus, dude is my overly short twin. Even wonder what Kam looks like? Picture a 6'5 Bronson, medium beard. Not that big ass thing he's rocking now. About Rozay level beard.

Big KRIT - Return of 4eva

I love KRIT. He's the second coming of Pimp C (minus a lot of the trill) for me. Wuz Here was my 2010 AOTY, and R4 is kinda better in a technical way. Problem for me is, KRIT became self aware. It seemed like on Wuz Here he was unknowingly and innocently channeling Pimp C, T-Mix and Organized Noize. On R4, it's almost like he's kinda doing it on purpose. Like, "here's my UGK song, this is my 8Ball & MJG song etc. etc.". Dunno. I'm finicky with my southern hip hop saviors. Still, top tier stuff here. KRIT is one of the true light bearing torch carriers of hip hops future.

Gucci Mane & Wacka Flocka Flame - Ferrari Boyz

What a wonderfully ignant album. Shame most of the best tracks were out months before the album. I think if I hadn't heard any of the tracks before it came out it would make my top 5. Just Drumma Boy, Southside and Lex making that music I can ride to. Push a bitch out a hummer for me Gucc. For me it's Gucci's and Wacka's best work, plus some of the best from Drumma and Southside. If you like this kind of music, this is your holy grail.

Tyler, the Creator - Goblin

Don't think that because this is halfway down this little write up that my position has changed. This is a top album for me. Only song I don't fuck with is Radicals. IMO, 5 mic album. I was a crazy kid and this album brings out emotion in me. Happy nostalgia. This music makes the nostalgia gland in my brain just pour. Don't know why. On paper, I wouldn't even like the guy. But the record brings me back to a simpler time like nothing else in a few years. I love the simplistic, raw production. There are no ghost producers or industry mega mixers tainting this. Yonkers, Intro. She, Analog, fuck it. Whole damn album. Frank's verse on Window >>>

Rittz - White Jesus

Trunk Muzik 3: 0-120

Curren$y - Covert Coup

Yall heard it. Nuf said.

DJ Quik - Book of David

Quik's triumphant return to analog recording at Jim Henson's old studio. 100% analog tubes in that thing. You need this on CD. MP3 won't cut it. Audio quality >>>>, not to mention, it's motherfucking DJ Quik.

E-40 - _______ Shift *New category - Comeback Player of the Year

What a hot streak for forty water. Dude had a few missteps after Hall of Game (Hall of Game and everything before is pure classic), still put out a good record here and there, but it seemed like he trying to hard to get mainstream success. Well he went back to just making 40 music without any regard to flavor of the month guests or beats, and released 4...goddam 4 bangin albums. His best work since Federal and Hall of Game. Some might say Busta is comeback player of the year, but I'm tired his shit already. He killed a couple remixes with that triple time shit, and then went on to spit the same verse on everything he touched this year.

My real AOTY is Frank Ocean Nostalgia/Ulta, but it was good decision to only list hip hop I think. So you guys should take Dessa off lists (not even a Doomtree shot)

Fail of the Year

Radioactive

I don't even think it's a bad record. I own it, and I like a lot of the songs on it. But it's a matter of missed opportunity. Eminem played his role of hip hop musical cancer by basically killing this album both commercially and critically for fans. Eminem is the Bobby Kotick of rap.

N!ggas in Paris - Record of the Year

There isn't even competition.

There's a ton of albums I loved as much as these, I'll list them all when I do my real post. I was just bored and felt like typing. Go Bengals. Fuck blackouts and watching tiny ass streams. Love peace and nappiness.

why you keep posting that goofy ass white dude all the time.

Some dude you'd see in a Staples commercial.

Has this been posted? Canibus released a diss track on J. Cole (Cole has called Canibus his favorite rapper ever), and you won't believe why. http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.17921/title.canibus-disses-j-cole-on-j-clone-explains-beef?utm_source=datpiff&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=datpiff_news

"If it ain’t a threat, then it must be a promise / You said my name so much they think you’re being honest / It’s more than that, we could’ve recorded the track / You could give me a stack for a verse just like that,”

Fucker has lost it.

Makes sense. I can't stand Ghostfaces whiny voice but I love Apollo Kids. Ironman is great also (but sounds a bit dated, naturally) but I bought Fishscale and heard most of his other stuff and don't get the love at all. FS is so annyoing I wanted to throw it out the window when I first listened to it.

Only built doesn't count. But it would be GF best album by a mile.

I'm so mad at myself for forgetting to include it in my amazon order this month. Oh well, it's winter anyway so I'm gonna wait til it gets warm again.

Lol, yeah, it takes a certain mood for me to enjoy Exmilitary too. Its heavy as fuck, but it's not really throbable in the car.

OB4CLI but no OB4CLII is the smallest problem of that list so don't worry, I won't open that door.
OB4CLII isn't his album like OB4CL is and it's pretty bad also. Below Fishscale.

OB4CL, GFK is on 13 SONGS. INCLUDING a solo cut. And that is out of 16 songs. So he is on 80% of the album.

On OB4CLII, he is on 7 songs, out of over 20. Not even 50% of the album. So it is not a Ghostface album. It is a mediocre album made by a washed up veteran whose flow and style peaked in 1999 and sucked a lot of dick for some (great) RZA and Dilla beats (and also Alchemist) and plenty of already used, ghostproducer, and mediocre beats from NY producers. That album is wack, top to bottom. Just full of filler and boring. Not to mention it sounds like tinny shit mixed by an oxyhead (oh because it was, fuck BT).

That album gave some great music but as an album on its own, it sucks.

If I could re-mix all the tracks and put together my own tracklist...

1) State of Grace (why this was taken off the album i have no idea, a ton of other shit was old and not even that great)
2) House of Flying Daggers
3) Black Mozart (without the stupid DJ shoutouts at the beginning.. so amateur mixtape ish)
4) Rockstars & Smoking Barrels (Amazing cut)
5) Ill Figures (this is from chamber music but if i was rae, i wouldve just bought the song from koch for whatever pennies it probably was and put it on this)
6) New Wu (why they added that horrible SUUUUUU i dont know.. embarassing)
7) We Will Rob You (TAKE OFF THAT TERRIBLE MASTA KILLA VERSE!!!!)
8) Surgical Gloves
9) Have Mercy
10) 10 Bricks (put Cappa last because his verse was HEAT)
11) Kiss The Ring (but put GFK on it too)
12) Ason Jones

And I'm sure there are RZA cuts we didn't even hear that could be added. MAYBE Gihad too.. I have mixed feelings about that track.

Overall, it's a pretty bad album as it stands.

Mr Blackace, I know you've been busy as fuck but I was hoping for perhaps another pop rap/RnB mix like your "foryoufromace" mix. That shit is perfect for parties.

I will never, never understand OB4CLII hate. Ever. But I knew that our opinions on GFK go miles apart when I saw that you put Bulletproof Wallets as your number 1 and claimed Ghostdini was underrated. So we'll just have to agree to disagree.

The CD of Bulletproof Wallets is terrible by the original mix is so great and perfect in every way.

I am sure I could knock you up something in one take with that stuff

Its a boring album from a boring artist.

See, I like about 3/4 of the album and some tracks are among my favourite Raekwon songs. Of course, the Ghost and Deck features kinda help the record and next to OB4CLI it's a weaker but overall I enjoyed it.

That'd probably explain why I didn't like it.

Why is OB4CL Ghost's album, but you don't give Rae the same respect and acknowledgement for Ironman?
