I'm just sayin, Snoop had the same phase too where everything he dropped was dope as fuck and you could bop your head to anything on that doggy dogg flow. Ross needs something to do once people wake up and realize he's been reusing the same JUSTICE League beats for the past few years.

I call myself a Snoop fan even though I do not enjoy most of the shit he puts out nowadays.

I am a Snoop fan and really the two aren't even comparable. Ross has been getting better and better at controlling a beat and commanding presence on a track. His beat selection has been far more than the League.. In fact his biggest hits have been Lex Luger...

Snoop on the other hand is nas like in his ability to never return to the form of his first album.. But at least Snoop has 3 classics to his name..

I wasn't a fan of Rick Ross until recently. He's stepped his game way the fuck up over the last year and a half or so. It's like the whole 50 "beef" inspired him or something cause ever since then he's been improving like crazy.

Ross might be the best of the mainstream rappers today

You insinuating Nas doesn't? Illmatic, It Was Written, and Stillmatic. Bam!

Everybody knows about Officer Ricky.

And for a minute his career was legitimately on the ropes.

But nobody cared once that 1-2 punch of MC Hammer & BMF dropped.

Took the words right out of my mouth. I didn't like Rick Ross before the whole beef with 50, I will admit. But after listening to Teflon Don, I couldn't help but appreciate the guy. He definitely stepped it up from his early days; he sounded hungry. (Pun intended)

I hope his next album is just as stunning. Rawse has a grand ear for production.

fucking picture technology haha... Port of Miami was awesome

Thanks to everyone for the love on my crews preview to are upcoming album. A lot of unnecessary events happen during the course of this project. But, my crew never gave up. From producers in studios jacking are shit, baby momma drama, stabbings, stolen equipment, HDD crashing losing 800 plus beats and samples.....It was a nightmare but fun. Props to Toku, homeboy heard me vent, bitch and pimp through it all, lol.

Fuck. Decided to listen to Baytl again. I think I feel better if I just pretend V-Nasty is some 10 year old boy. The voice sounds the same, although the lyrics might be a bit simple.

Baytl is pretty horrible.. Fuck you beat sounds like a cheap knock off of Stoopid... Gucci sounds like Gucci... But lately he isn't as hype as he used to be...

I personally like to be challenged lyrically. You can talk guns and ice every day of the week with the illest delivery but that basic shit just doesn't cut it for me, you gotta offer me something more. Big L had hilarious punchlines, Rae on Cuban Linx had his paintery storytelling and Nas man... Some lines like "I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death". It's like the whole song is a hook that you keep on repeating for the whole day.

Edit: Oh wow, nicely done Yoda. Probably my favourite track of yours.

I think what I really like is just to be able to connect with the song, to believe it somehow. Be it through beats, lyrics or delivery/flow.

If a rapper can paint a picture with his lyrics, that's definitely one way. If they're hyped up talking about partying and they actually sound like it, I'll be drawn into that. If they're talking about killing dudes, there needs to be a way to draw me in.

Nas nailed all 3 with Illmatic, probably explains why it's my favourite album.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who liked simple Ross too. Everything then just sounded so rugged. MMG Ross is all established and shit, but back then all the grand claims made his character so much more outrageous and interesting. Loved Port of Miami.

Cross That Line is still probably my favourite Ross song. Push It probably next up, such a simple sample, but so effective.

Not sure how I feel about that Yao Ming track, its kind of a fucking mess but it's kind of dope too. It also sounds like the kind of song that gives you a headache after a while.

I say there be another GAF-Hop Posse Cut: Dirty Christmas edition. The dirtiest song possible with a XXX-Mas twist.

Edit: Also, I say you guys make it lo-fi too that way I can try to take a crack at it. (Only have internal laptop mic.)

But yeah just a few months ago I listened to POM again and was amazed how good it is.

Seriously.. I thought Ross was done after that expose of grand proportions. Actually, I'm still not even sure how he weaseled his way out of that controversy and became more relevant than 50 even. The way Ross handled it too was pretty poor, he said all the wrong things.

He was a C.O.

The white college kids who listen to him don't know and wouldn't care if they did know. Even if he was the head of the vice squad.

People in the hood have been to jail. They know a C.O. has about as much in common with a cop, let alone a detective or DEA agent, as a garbage man.

It's the people who are in between casual college kid rap fan and street gangster who seem to have a hard time differentiating police officer, detective, and jail babysitter.

I know what a C.O. is very well. They are glorified babysitters. But most of the COs i have known are people who arent smart enough to be a Cop, or cannot pass the psych tests. But some are cool people just doing a job, and they know what they are.

My real people know the C.O.'s are often the gullyiest people in the joint.

They can be. I had a CO that sold like 5 pieces of Dominos Pizzas compressed into a baggie for like $20, among weed and other things. I loved that guy. Nothing like flat pizza and stress weed while locked up.

They also can be some of the most insanely difficult people to deal with. One of the female COs in my pod would always bring bootleg movies in. Shit was great. But another guy would bring in pink handcuffs and fuck with anyone he could.

I actually got a verse written when you guys started talking about it a few pages back.

Someone needs to just post a beat.

Rick Ross' only real misstep is Trilla which was really bad. There was a comp thing in 2007 called Rise to Power that was REALLY good. I had huge hopes for Trilla after that, just seemed like I was one album too early.

I don't come in here often, but are you guys planning on doing a gaf-hop top 10 of 2011? I'm totally out of touch.

I'm only just now getting my #swag on with Asap Rocky.

Common... doesn't actually do No I.D justice... Like in "So Sweet," that beat is BIG, and common sounds lost.

Are you making it or Macca or who? Deadline should be early 2012 I think.

Common...So good. The Dreamer->Ghetto Dreams->Blue Sky->So Sweet is such a great sequence.
Not all the way through it, but The Dreamer sounds sooo much like an outro track on first listen.

Leak quality is shit too, and I'm usually not a stickler for quality at all.

I don't know about that specific beat.. but otherwise Common/No I.D. is like ying and yang, those two have uncanny synergy IMO.
