This is probably a better question during the day time but whatever.

I'm curious out of the last 3 years, what rappers debut album through a major label company did yall enjoy the most?

Wale - Attention Deficit
BoB - The Adventures of Bobby Ray
Yelawolf - Radioactive
J. Cole - Cole World
Drake - Thank Me Later
Jay Electronica - The Nacirema Dream
Asher Roth - Asleep in the Bread Aisle
Kid Cudi - Man on the Moon
Nicki Minaj - Pink Friday
Glasses Malone - Beach Cruiser

I'm sure I missed some, those were just off the top of my head so feel free to add one I missed.

I'm sure most of the answers will probably be Kid Cudi.

Mine would probably go Cudi>BoB>Cole>then everything else. Yelawolf might get named, been listening to it lately and it's growing on me.

Off of this list Drake, BOB, and Wale.

I recommend it every time, but this is seriously quite good:

looks interesting - you gonna make me wiki this, res? summarize! haha.

ps Harlem Mantis and Northern-Jazz Groove are such hot shit. i love kung-fu and noir, so these beats...are these meant to stay as instrumentals? my problem with all this jazz-hop listening is that i hear shit like this and have a hard time figuring out an MC/flow that wouldn't fuck it right up, better to say nothing at all.
wow, spaceghost is calibrating my woofer as it goes, too.

Radioactive only gets worse on subsequent listens for me.. So I solved the problem by deciding never to listen to it again.

Initially thought it was mediocre, but after a few spins you really have to go the extra mile to try and find redeeming qualities. Everything sounds botched.

Thank me Later was fucking terrible, how can you guys even rate that as better than Cole World. Have any of you gone back to listen to it recently? It's pretty much unbearable after Take Care outside of Show me a good time and Find your love

As I've said here and elsewhere, as far as I'm concerned, Take Care is the album TML should have been. TML is nothing but a label released mixtape. It's a collection of songs.

Cole Had the best debut this year. Take Care was a better album, for whatever its worth. The Dreamer/The Believer is better than both.

Drake>Wale>Yela........Odd, because I like the artists in reverse order.

I love me some Cudi but I can't rank him with rappers, so I took that out of the equation.

I still think Yelawolf had the best debut this year, Cole didn't click with me. But it's all subjective. Yela's was more disappointing however.

Yelawolf's was ok. But Cole came correct on about 80% of his songs. Breakdown/Lost Ones/ A Dollar And A Dream III/ Lights Please, all are fantastic.

I can totally understand that. I guess I'm just a huge Yela stan. I'm a massive fan of how he raps.

I really respect Cole though, stuck to his game, and is talented as hell. Just wasn't my kind of album I guess.

TML was a very good label album. Runs through smooth except for Cece's Interlude.

Cole World was the album Cole wanted to make and he got full control, and it STILL sucked (how the fuck does that happen?). In all honesty he probably would've been better off with some label guidance.

I like yela, but even on Trunk Muzik 0-60 you could see seeds of Radioactive. Not all of those tracks were bangers.

Lol, how can you expect someone to take your criticism of Cole World serious when you preface it by claiming Thank Me Later was good?

Yela's Last Song and Cole's Breakdown are like the same tracks pretty much lol. It was kind of weird how they both ended their album with it.

I'd much rather see Ghost fucked up on coke and dust and drinking cristal than smoking weed... he makes better music the other way.

uh...because it was?

Take Care's a whole lot better, but that doesn't change the fact that Thank Me Later was good. They were just made with different purposes.

Thank Me Later wasnt good, or even mediocre. It was bad. Cole World wasnt as good as some of his tapes, but it was a damn fine debut that was true to his vision. Even Drake knows Thank Me Later wasnt a great album.

Thank Me Later has about 4 or 5 songs (if i'm being conservative) better than the best song on Cole World. Hell one of the best songs on Cole World is basically a Drake reject song.

I honestly cant believe yall like huff ass Cole World after listening to FNL (seriously go back and listen to FNL). Worst thing he's ever made by far. I wish I kept count of how many times I facepalm'd that album the first time I listened to it.

TML got mostly positive reviews (general 8/10 consensus), made several year-end lists and was pretty much inescapable for 12+ months.

Cole World? lol even the most ardent of Cole fans didnt listen to it for more than a few weeks before going back to FNL.

You like some pretty ignorant music, so i have to assume you are just picky with your face palms. Cole had some cheesy lines, but the worst thing Cole has done is still leagues better than some of the artists being pimped in here. Including Gucci/Flocka.

*Facepalm*

I don't think Drake has rapped a verse in his entire career that was as hard-hitting as Rise & Shine, and that's not even Cole at his greatest.

I'm also about as big of a Yela fan as I am any other new artist. Radioactive just reeked of a checklist album. Made by ninja A&Rs. Not Yela. He's just featured on every song.

Fair enough, but honestly, no one knows but Yela. Sometimes artists feel the need to sell out and go for that white girl money.

it isnt even about the lines. those are facepalm worthy like water is wet.

its about his dated beats & shitty hooks. the songs are just plain out poor.

it aint a good look to me when your best song (going by yall, not me. if lights please is his best song then there aint much hope) is 2 years old. all that tells me is that he's regressed more than i could've imagined.

Yelawolf always seemed to me like the kind of dude that just wants to be big. I mean, the album was called Radioactive. I think he wanted to appeal to a wide base, but really the album just didn't deliver. I still think it's a solid album though.

Cudi>Cole>Rest

I really didn't like the rest of those albums. MOTM is damn near classic.

Beats are not dated. How do you even get to this? Also, if you didnt like Lights Please, what did you like, because that song is the mixture of what Cole is. Friday Night Lights and The Warm Up are both better than Cole World, but not by some huge amount. But again, when you claim Thank Me Later was a good album, it is hard to argue with someone in that mindset.

So really, this Common album is pretty incredible. His best effort since Be, easily. I love these NoID beats and Common has some ridiculously smooth hooks all over this album. I'm loving this shit. I love the lack of features, and I haven't gotten a great Common album in so long. Beautiful way to cap off the year.

Yeah, I pretty much said the same thing. Great beats/Great Hooks/Great lyrics.

No, like I said when I posted those, beats. There's going to be an album next month. The beats are going to be a little different from the instrumental album. I'm just trying to put my crews work out there now.

cool, good luck with it man - again, they're good. any chance you'll release an album of said instrumentals alongside it? i'd be down for both.

I know its alot of Lupe haters....but....I just finally got around to listening to "Friend of the people" Fully...and while I dont like most of the tracks because of music selection....

"WWDJ he'd lol like wtf" is probably one of the best songs of the year.....so good.
