Lil Flip had one great album. Then he had nothing but vile shit. I was so fucking hyped for his next album after Underground Legend, but was greeted by a double album filled with garbage.

yerp, Undaground legend was a pretty damn good ignorant southern rap record, like a pimp still bangs. But everything else he has done is just such a shitfest of epic proportions. Plus he was always an embarrassingly bad rapper, he just managed to make catchy tracks for a little while. But the horseshit quickly overwhelmed whatever production he managed to get.

Didn't he drop some psuedo country/pop/r & b record in 2010? I remember it was really popular, but other than that dude has been ghost for quite a while now. I wonder if the "Tip Drill" controversy put his career in limbo.

Naw.. Dude started making real money with clothes. Once Apple Bottom became less popular he started working on 5.0

The big problem is he wanted to be thug and ladies man at the same time...very few can pull it off.. R.Kelly and Trey are the only ones I can think of..

Whether from the South or not, dude definitely rode that gravy train for all it was worth. I remember when "Grillz" dropped even as a Jr. High kid I knew it was semi-corny if not all the way goofy.

thread-crossover posting: ace, i never really dug e-water's reckless abandonment of following the beat sometimes, but the stuff of his you've had in your mixes i've dug. if you did a mix of just him, id be down man.

tguy - i think most dudes dug nelly's earlier shit (it wasn't as awful as some of what we got later, plus it drove chicks nuts) but not many'll admit to it.

That's his nickname Mr. Steal Ya Girl... He is floats between love songs and slapping ladies with meat songs pretty flawlessly. Chris Brown does it ok too... But Nelly wanted to be a rapper and a singer and it don't work very well

Ah, like that. My bad, I get what you're saying. Yeah Nelly started that right around Suit & Sweat... I think. He fell off my radar around then, but I do actually think that pretty boy swag schtick worked a little while longer for him, iirc. He managed it for a while

Phil Collins isn't all that unappreciated. He's forever getting play. Two Hearts is one of my favorite tracks ever. I just throw that track on if I'm in a good ass mood, and if I'm not I throw it on hoping to get into one.

Slim Thug has been putting in work this year. Putting out a new single every week for awhile. He has been giving all of his music away though and then just doing shows while looking for a new distributor for his next album. Interesting to see a "named" rapper go this route and presumably make a good living off of it. That grind has to be hard. I liked his last album, "The Thug Show" but I doubt it sold worth a lick.

Houston has a ton of rappers. Many of them are good, but many are terrible. Because everyone is seemingly trying to copy Pimp C, Scarface, or someone else they grew up listening to, you get a big mess of sameness. Probably the same all over the country though. When someone unique comes out, it is like a breath of fresh air.
