Two things not debatable about this year: No I.D. is producer of the year and either Illest Motherfucker Alive or Keisha's Song is the song of the year. Everything else is wrong.

Slaughterhouse goes in over some beats on Flex over some classic beats.

Heat. Rocks. Jesus christ Crooked & Joey. That prime Slaughterhouse stuff right here, some of these punchlines are crazy.

Far East Movement ft. KiD CuDi & Chip Tha Ripper - Ride 4 U. I'm all zen and shit recently, so I'll save my venom for another day. CuDi helps the track a lot though.

When you said Slaughterhouse + classic beats, I was hoping for Shook Ones II, my favorite beat ever... AND SHIT DIDNT DISAPPOINT. goddammmmm this is awesome, Crooked ripped it apart

No ID is hands down Producer of the year for his work on Finally Famous, Cocaine 80's, and The Dreamer/The Believer. Followed by Kno for Oneirology.
Cosigned, No I.D. had it down this year. I'd also give special mention to Nujabes simply for giving us a fitting album with awesome beats to memoralize him.

K.R.I.T. is up there. But you didn't even link to Another Naive Individual Glorifying Greed and Encouraging Racism, so fail.

I'm drunk so I got hype music right now. If I was sober, I would link to that, and Something, my favorite song of his. But fuck bitches right now so it's all about ignant shit.

A lot of people seem to forget that Kno also came out with this:

Raps are total dogshit, but those beats man, those beats.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have at least 3 albums not present on any other list.

you gotta give spin-chan back those square frames, bro

if Illest Motherfucker Alive is song of the year my taint tastes like wagyu steak and smells of fresh cinnamon buns

ahahaha, your words paint pictures, sir.

KRIT takes the second spot in 'producer of the year' for "Yoko" alone, easily, but No I.D smashes all this year.

The Believer
Anywhere but here

There's just too much of it to go around.

co-signing this.

I guess I should clarify that I haven't gotten around to The Dreamer, The Believer yet. Not in the mood for Common Sense right now and I still haven't heard a single thing from it yet ut still hyped for it. Eventually.

Rolling Papers was soooooooo close to making my list. regret not putting it on there now :/

I haven't finished my list yet but...

Chinoiseries Pt. 2 - Onra
Medicine Show No. 11 Low Budget High Fi Music - Madlib
Crickets - Moka Only & Chief

I'm almost 100% positive that I'm the only one with these 3.

I WANT to forget this came out :/

Nah, its fine, but Oneirology is sooo much better. Decent concept, but people forgot it for a reason- its forgettable

I'm just throwing that out there for people to consider in their ProducerOTY voting. Obviously it has no place on anyones album list, but as far as production goes, it's tight.

Chinoiseriesis a good choice, I listened to every single one of those madlib releases so that one didn't stand out in particular, havent listened to crickets. checking it out now actually

Yeah, I was going to include MacheteVision in my Honorable Mentions but my rose-colored glasses could only make me enjoy it so much. The rapping is sub-par and not even Kno's production could help it. Still need an instrumentals version and all it did was get me hyped for Chico and the Man.

Pretty surprised I haven't seen Hell: The Sequel anywhere. I thought at least some people liked it.

It truly has been a fantastic year for Hip Hop.

Ahead of Oneirology.
Not many things aren't.

Though, I hear a lot of talk of A Sucker for Pumps in this thread recently and I completely missed the bandwagon with this one. Kinda enjoyed the T&A tape earlier this year though, but it wasn't anything special, was my first time hearing anything T&A. So now I'm kinda curious if the album is up my alley or not and wondering if I should check it out before Jan. 15th.

Swag.

Also, no one listened to this but its awesome:

Yeah.. I didn't think anyone fucked with Crooked's solo releases here, but after your cosign I'll put it on my backlog.

It was pretty easily outshadowed. It was fun to listen to for a few weeks, though. I still love Fast Lane.

The only Medicine Show that made any impact on me was the Brazilian music one. Nearly all the original music just felt so average to me, usually due to generic raps. I think I've ranted about Stones Throw beat heads being solely focused on production and not seeming to give a shit about the shitty to average rappers Madlib works with (Guilty Simpson, Frank Nitty, MED, himself, etc)

imo he produces too much, it's hard to get any focus or quality from him now

I feel you Cudder but K.R.I.T. has the advantage of creating jams that make you want to ride in the middle of a summer night and blast his music (Which I have and it IS AMAZING. Windows down, cruising, full moon, nothing better in the world.)

Oneirology still has my AOTY slot but JUST barely behind Return of 4Eva. Right now, I would call them both equal albums but I know that is not the case.

Big K.R.I.T. > Kno > the rest

this - and i wanna say Goblin, i know it wasnt Bastard but i thought some dudes here (kams?) dug it too - is a perfect example of 2nd quarter or so quality that, like you said, is only missing here because of all the good shit we got in 2011.
it's like Portal 2 on the gaming side, i imagine - the deluge of holiday titles make it feel further back.

One album I do feel is really being slept on it the Travis Barker album. That was damn good and will probably make my Top 10.

I like Tyler, the Creator but I feel like I can only take so much of it. Yonkers, Tron Cat, She are some favorites.

THIS. I'm tired of every release being 30+ tracks that are only like 40 seconds, with no focus, no structure, etc.

Ya know I went back to Goblin the other day, honestly it's not as good as when I first heard it. Songs like Tron Cat just bore the hell out of me. Definitely will give it an honorable mention, but too much outshined it this year.

I haven't checked it yet, but it's been in the back of my mind for the longest time now. The samples I heard were pretty hot.

This was my exact reaction... a week after it dropped.

I loved Hell:The Sequel. I played that shit so much this summer. But it just doesnt hold up to everything else in my top 10. Still, it is a good album with some really nice back and forth between Royce and Em.

Also, I love Busta, but every verse recently from him has sounded the same.

Hell was pretty good, I love back and forth raps it's just so telling how good this was.

Definitely understand you there. I thought his verses on Worldwide Choppers and Let's Go were amazing, but he hasn't really switched it up in everything else I've heard. It get's draining.

It's pretty crazy looking back at albums that came out around the start of the year. It's going to take me a while to finalize my list.

Also, i have received like 3 verses from people for the Gaf-Hop XXXmas song. Get your shit together. Also, can someone PM the list of people on it?

It had the Professionals and Supreme Team stuff so hype through the roof.

Crickets is just a chill album plus Chief is Swiss so I gotta represent. I might give something else the edge over it but it's at least Top 15 for me.

I thought so too but he already posted his list and iirc it wasn't on it.

i can totally see this. it's mostly back up for me because of those tracks, and having heard it again recently. again, it's great to run/work out to, and i only discovered Oddfuture this year too.
but im not at all bitching about it not being on people's lists; even if it was Bastard (or Earl's shit), this year was way too crazy to saying it was definitive top 10.

Working on it. I have a half-shitty verse that I might just decide to use because I'm running out of time. Also, trying to convince a buddy to let me use his decent mic so I don't have to use my laptop's internal mic but I'll get it to you by tomorrow.

Ok my top 7 of the year in the hip hop category would be

1. Kendrick Lamar- Section 80

This album really blew me away. I had not heard about him till maybe three weeks ago, but everything about this album just meshes with me. From the beats to Kendrick's lyrical style.

2. The Roots- Undun

I had not really delved deep into The Roots prior releases but the hype form Gaf-Hop got me excited for this album. I bought it and ever since it has been on spin. Love the concept of the album and really like the whole live band beats.

3. Grives-Together/Apart

Never had heard of Grieves before, but somebody posted his album in the other thread and I decided to give it a chance and man did I really enjoy this album. It is personal and a great introspective look at things that are screwed up about relationships and the world in general.

4. Drake-Take Care

Yeah thats right I have a mainstream album on this list. I love Take Care it feels a lot more cohesive then Thank Me Later, and the beats are great. Sure Drake can be corny sometimes, but I dont give a what this album is great.

5. Common- The Dreamer/The Believer

Yeah it just came out, but I am really feeling the album and love the beats. Sure it isn't the deepest album ever, but its not to flashy either which makes it perfect balance to me.

6. Big Krit- Return Of 4Eva

This guy right here. Bringing the south back. Love the beats, LOVE THEM and his flow is the best I have heard come from the south in a long time. So gotta give him props for doing his thing.

7. Kanye and Jay-Z- WTT

Now I know this album is deeply contested to be either the worst or best thing ever, but I enjoy the fun this album brings. It isn't a serious record, and I dont diss it for not being that either. I am a Kanye Stan and love me some HOVA so of course it would be on this list.

Ok so I only had a top 7 not 10 since well the rest of my music collection is older hip hop or Rock. I have some albums I need to listen to like Doomtree, but for now that is my list.

Artist I really want to see get better

Tyler the Creator- I listened to Goblin and couldn't even get through the whole thing, its way to angry and just naive at times.

Wale- I like ambition but this is not the same tier as Attention Deficit was for me. Wale really needs to find what he wants and then delve deep into it.

J.Cole- His debut album wasn't anything special for me. I listened to it once and havent touched it since. It was average. I will give it another listen in the coming days an maybe it will click, we will see.

May add 8-10 later will post a new post for 8-10 if I listen to some albums these next couple of days. Need to revisit Hell The Sequel and some others.

I love KRIT but let's be real the South has been doing fine...

Drop French Montana and add 2 Chainz and you'd have an ignorance super group like few others...

Also man this year sucked for duets...

I beg to differ. TiRon & Ayomari, Curren$y & Alchemist, and Black Milk & Danny Brown (which is AOTY contender, forgot about it) all did amazing.

Blu's AOTY's.
