I'll throw your opinion a bone - I have a lot of trouble listening to mainstream stuff now that I've discovered these threads (dating back to number 2). I mean its really tough for some reason.

Labels are obsolete. They're pagers. You don't need em anymore. He's built enough buzz. He can get DJ cosigns. He can get everything he could with his own promo and industry cosigns that could with a label imo. Big label didn't do shit for Yelawolf. Can't see it helping KRIT either. Him being on Def Jam won't sell him 1 extra album or concert ticket considering the following he built up on his own.

The only people they still benefit are uber stars like Jeezy, Yeezy and Weezy. People who just don't want to be bothered by the promo etc. I think Weeknd likes handling that shit.

Also, has it ever been confirmed that "The Weeknd" is just Abel and not a group(producers etc.)?

I have no idea what extra incentives come with a major label anymore, so you're probably right, lol. As for whether or not The Weeknd is a one man thing, he's got a few producers that he's worked with throughout the trilogy, but they don't move as a crew from what I'm getting, and he isn't exclusive to them. I think it's just Abel.

God that BoB single/3000 verse is so bad.

The Weeknd is bigger than a label. He only needs a label for distribution. If he can get a deal similar to Drake where he owns his master and only use the label for distribution, he will be set. A label would ruin the image he built up with his fans.

I'm looking forward to the Dj Premier Vs Pete Rock album(s?).

I know I'm late as fuck but the new common is very good the only problem is Common is just almost always very good it is like he is incapable of doing something special. No ID kills the production and some of the beats have that special sauce but Common is just never going to meet it. There's a video on youtube of Common performing NY State of Mind and he just makes it sound very good nothing special, I can't quite pin down why it is not sure if it is just his voice and/or flow.

A shame he had to say that purse line over the best beat on the album.

Detox might come out before GAF HOP XXXmas.

At this point we should redo the whole thing and make a GAF HOP happy fucking new year.

Haha, I was actually going to suggest that we do a track for New Years too. Then we can quickly think up another holiday themed track, finish it, gather those three tracks up and label the collective: The Holidays EP. Bam, GafHop has completed a tape. A small one, but it's whateva.

ayo what is gafhops favorite just blaze beat? I remember talking bout this in the last thread but i want more love for the god

just-blaze.jpg

Diamonds and Mac 10's is my favorite. I used the instrumental for a walkout song in a boxing tournament this year.

looking at the wikipedia discography of just blaze makes him seem like he just made rocafella beats forever... i know ive liked heaps of his stuff but i like king back and pump it up, pretty typical choices but whatever i cant remember any off the top of my head

did you win? man diamonds and mac 10's reminds me of more or less from shyne... old kanye produced song and well, thats a killer

Ben Breedlove, Teen Tells Heartbreaking Story Week Before Death
Ben Breedlove was an Austin teenager who had a popular YouTube channel ("OurAdvice4You") where he gave dating advice to viewers. He also had a life-threatening heart condition he fought every day growing up.

The brave 18-year-old lost his life on Christmas night from a heart attack. The week before, he recorded the below videos where he shared his feelings about death, after "cheating" it three times.

He also shared a vision that came to him when the paramedics were reviving him at his school: he stood in a white room, wearing a suit, and was joined by his favorite rapper, Kid Cudi.

"I then looked in the mirror, I was proud of myself of my entire life, everything I have done. It was the BEST feeling," he wrote.

Cudi posted the following message on his blog in response to the news of Breedlove's death: "I am so sad about Ben Breedlove. I watched the video he left for the world to see, and him seeing me in detail, in his vision really warmed my heart. I broke down... To Ben’s family, you raised a real hero, he’s definitely mine. You have my love."

WTT2 is going to happen just becuause Jay has to complete the Live Nation deal and he is creatively bankrupt. I heard the track he did with Rihanna on the radio, I'm pretty sure it was about Beyonce going to the toilet.

Jay would put out his next solo album before another WTT album. Also, why would Kanye do MBDTF 2? that makes no sense

Hope GAF-Hop had a great Christmas, I haven't check in here for the past week or so. I got a few iTunes cards from some relatives as presents, and picked up Celph Titled's "Nineteen Ninety Now" after someone on here recommended it on here a while back. I forget who it was, but I'm really enjoying the album.

Did that mixtape Raekwon said he was gonna drop on the 25th come out? I can't seem to find it.

SoulPlaya

more money than God
smh

Let's be real: GZA is finished, and while RZA has made some good beats lately I'm not confident he can make an entire album worth of material anymore.

GZA sounds alright on the latest verse he layed
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JxyUS5ABjPg

but it's still lacking the semi-energy he had on his first album.
I really liked Pro Tools. I can understand why a lot don't (his flow can put people to sleep), but I would be interested in hearing another album. I certainly wouldn't expect a real sequel to LS, though.

I missed the label discussion earlier but I wanted to point out that Loius CK showed how it should be done. Get yourself a big enough fanbase and you can throw your work up on the internet, charge 5 bucks for it, avoid labels and all those other snakes taking a cut, and people will buy that shit if you've shown them you have a track record of having good material. Just knowing you aren't feeding a bunch of fat fucks in suits who do nothing but sit around a board room is enough to spur a lot of people into laying down 5 bucks who would normally just pirate your shit.
