gone head and right click, save as, for future use

I foresee a MJ face being on this young man in the near future.

As I begin the retread down the Boot Camp Clik's sophomore slump, I'm gonna start with Smif-N-Wessun's Cocoa Brovaz' Rude Awakening

Gonna go head and get it out of the way, it's still a definite step down from Dah Shinin' but it's really not all that bad. Tek and Steele still do their thing on the mic, so it really boils down to the production on here. There are some definite stand outs like Still Standin Strong, Spanish Harlem (both which I swear predate everything else on here), and Blown Away, but there's a lot of middling and somewhat questionable beats. Won on Won in particular samples Deodato's September 13th rather poorly after Camp Lo's Park Joint. Black Trump with Raekwon isn't terrible but this track could've been so much better considering the lineup, and speaking of the Wu, both Dry Snitch and Game of Life both contain what I swear to be diet-1998 RZA keys. Doesn't help that they're back to back either. And if I can strap on my backpack for a bit, it's more than a little bit of what Heltah Skeltah would coin "punk-smooth bullshit" on here with the crooning hooks (Therapy notwithstanding). They're not bad but considering the standard BCC has set with previous albums, they definitely stand out. Some west coast influence too, specifically in Black Trump's beat and Blown Away's hook, the latter of which comes straight from Ambitionz Az a Ridah. No surprise though as BCC was supposed to drop an album with Tupac before his death and OGC/Heltah Skeltah were already throwing shots at Biggie in videos during their beef.

All in all though, this record isn't bad. Again, it's not Dah Shinin, it's not perfect, but not as bad as people made it out to be. 7/10.

Next up will be Heltah Skeltah's Magnum Force with a box of kleenex.

this L'Orange & Kool Keith album

Heard the name L'Orange after going through some MMG releases months ago but never really peeped his work and downloaded this just off the strength of Kool Keith fuckery (who sounds like he's finally burned himself out sadly)

These beats got me over here like
brrIgMT5.gif

The production sounds like an even trippier Madlib fused with some Doom...I see I've got some work to do.

Best song on there is Bucktown USA.

NuWeeknd has a few whatever tracks here and there, but a lot of it is dope. First half is the party, second half is the next morning where you feel like shit and you reflecting on all your self-destructive habits and addictions. Big ballad at the end feels right.

First listen and all that, but it'll probably end up my favorite LP from Abel since House of Balloons. Just go in knowing it leans a bit more commercial/melodic than like, 2/3rds of Trilogy, but its a lot more confidently Weeknd that whatever the fuck Kissland was.

Lol, just stumbled upon this:
Travis Scott Is Worse Than Iggy Azalea

Looking forward to Rodeo. Days Before Rodeo was my AOTY next to Black Messiah.

STRAIGHT UP
Lol the author of this barely did any research on dudes come up, and now they're trying to paint him as an industry plant? Lmao so much is wrong in this article. They called the dude smart to boot. Shout outs to ignoring the complete production side of things, including being a muse for Ye in the Yeezus era which basically built off of dudes production style. I completely agree with the hip-hop community being really selective when it comes to giving passes for similar come ups but Travi$ hasnt even made it yet, and the author is completely blind to the fact that his resume is more known for being a songwriter and producer first.

Rodeo will probably be mediocre-to-good if the singles/songs released this far and Travis being on a general decline are anything to go off of. But everyone is in it for those 2-3 songs that will be standouts out of this whole year anyways.

Bumping some Charles Hamilton got me reminiscing on the days of him being on the radar.

Dude still nasty. Screw the haters.

Crazy. Cat's probably a savant. The way his brain must work to be string together all these words so fast, man... Seen a few others from him that were impressive, too.

Jesus, how time flies. I was 16 when he was coming up with his Sonic-themed mixtapes, lol.

Another one at Sway:

King Los was ridiculous too on Sway, though:

That freestyle Los did on Sway is the best one ever done on the show
Wish he could make songs as good as he freestyles

Indeed. I go back listening to this and Lupe's freestyle on Sway every few months. The most impressive part to me is how he seamlessly incorporates the words Sway throws in spontaneously while rapping without any pause. How did he even hear what Sway said, haha.

Some of my favorite Charles tracks from the back:

Deja Vu
Press C
Cats Said I Can Diss You
Re-Anna
The Entirety of Pink Lavalamp

...The reason he fell off is because he fell into drugs really bad, which mixed with his psychological issues sent him into the deep end.

Yep...and it doesn't help when dude got caught up with unnecessary beef which resulted in numerous L's being received. Thankfully dude redeemed himself.

Here's some of my favorite tracks...

Rosado

Jesus For A Day

Writing in the Sky

He's probably one of the best to actually freestyle off the dome. It's crazy how he does the shit without a bit of stumble. I remember first hearing about Hamilton through the Lacey Duvalle track. I knew dude was going to be something the moment he sampled Windows XP sounds.

So Girls in the 90's did make it onto the album as "Acquainted"

Not a bad track, but should have just put in the 90's on there.
