Vince's album is 59 minutes long.
People just seem to weirdly get overwhelmed by 2-discs(!) when in reality it's standard length. It's way shorter than Kendrick's last two albums for example.
You could cut tracks from most albums, it's a meaningless critique when it comes to Summertime '06.

To be fair that Astro song is weak as fuck. The beat is nice, verses seem fine for radio...but the hook is laughably bad. It's not really even a hook. It's amazing how out of touch these dudes are with melody. Might need to just go back to the rap n bullshit days of having r&b chicks do all the hooks for NY artists.

Ebro is lame as fuck though.

Jon Conner shouldn't have signed to Aftermath, that's the biggest problem. He can't release anything without a greenlight from the label, and has probably recorded hundreds of songs that will never be released. It's not an issue of being lazy, he doesn't control what comes out or when. IIRC he has released two mixtapes since signing to Aftermath, both of which aren't noteworthy (they continue his "rap over other people's beats exclusively" gimmick).

He released a lot of mixtapes sure, and they didn't garner much attention. However he never really did a project that demanded attention from rap fans. His album has some noteworthy features (Gibbs, Royce) but the production is forgettable. Doing a project with Black Milk would have made perfect sense but nope.

Same shit with Elzhi, man. You can't win while being from Detroit and not working with anyone.

I think it's clear that signing to Aftermath is a one way ticket to obscurity nowadays.

EDIT: That Ebro thing was spot on though. This 18 year old nobody is talking shit about not getting respect. Motherfucker, you're a fetus. At that age, you don't just magically get respect, you got to earn it. That song was wack as fuck, too.

People still thinking about signing to Aftermath :/. Haven't folk learned from Busta and Rakim to just keep it moving...

...I really hope Jay Rock album turn out to be good and surprise me, but if it ain't I'm going to be waiting in the shadows to say I told you so.

In other news I'm tentatively hyped for the new Scarface after watching all of his interviews.

Rock on Breakfast Club basically confirming Strange Music was holding up his album release.

They should've kept that shit in the vault if these singles are anything to go off of.

lmao Jay Rock defending the hook to 90059 and saying the biggest thing he did for this album was experiment with his voice

"the fact that they said they didn't like it shows me they took their time out to listen to it so I appreciate that"

powerful

Norf Norf is a fucking ridiculously good song. Jesus. So many haunting lines that stick with you and that rugged ass beat.

"Police still scared cuz of niggas like me"

Really liked the album as a whole

- Summertime 06 is rapidly becoming one of my favorite rap records ever. It's in the top 30, for sure.

Unless something else surprises it's my main label aoty. Some bandcampy stuff comes up next.

A perfect sesh tbh.

Chief Keef names new baby after record label

Today in ridiculous celebrity baby names, Chicago rapper Chief Keef has made his newborn son a real-life billboard for his next album.

No, really — Sno FilmOn Dot Com Cozart is the kid’s actual name, inspired by Keef’s current record label, FilmOn Music. (FilmOn .com is the label’s website).

The ridiculous Greek billionaire Alki David, who owns FilmOne, announced the ridiculous news with a ridiculous statement: “Alki David has announced that Chief Keef and his newest baby mama have agreed to name the newborn Sno FilmOn Dot Com Cozart in order to promote the release of Sosa’s double album Bang 3 with FilmOn Music and MondoTunes on September 18th.”

FilmOn is a sketchy as fuck company.

They're the ones who came out of nowhere and put up the 100k+ for Cassidy to come back to battle rap and then just decided they didn't want to pay everyone else on the card on the day-of so they didn't and the promoter got put like 100k in the hole. Also apparently the employees are super racist.

dude gives absolutely no fucks

Guys, when I first posted here and filled out the questionnaire, I put Jay Rock as my most anticipated release.

What have I done?

I did the same thing. At that point he had put out gumbo and money trees deuce which were both pretty dope. The last two tracks though... Jeez

Rock isn't gonna drop a classic, I don't think anybody expected that.

There hopefully will be some more solid songs (Besides Gumbo and Money Trees) than these last two that sounded pretty bad.

I don't really want to defend it, or say it's garbage. Hopefully we'll get an album that's just an enjoyable listen.

This is me trying to seem rational while covertly defending my preorder lol

What happened to this Jay Rock?

---

Filmon aka "we gave Cassidy 250K to battle Diz" is a record label? LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLL

Heavy emphasis on the letter L^^. Keef is better putting out his music independently. At least sign with E1 "rebranded Koch" Music on a one album deal.

Stand out moments from that Stro interview:

Ebro combing his beard as Stro talks.

The Troy Average slander about people leaving Summer Jam.

THESE YOUNG ARTISTS IS LAZY!!! They don't tour outside of NYC but do club dates and think that's work.

In Ebro's defense they can't play NYC artists the amount of times as national acts for no reason because then people accuse them of payola. What's stopping NYC artists from touring like the Roots or Tech N9NE?
