for real snuggles, you outdid yourself here man

DAMN, now I'm jealous of you.

haha thanks man, still tryin to cop some of the ice cube/etc classics you got way back though

Sheeeeeeiiiit that's a fucking gold mine. BTW what type of record player do you have.

yup, went with this one - had it in my color for $100, no USB but i honestly wasn't gonna use that. kickin through an Onkyo receiver from my old roommate (with old nice speakers or des' recommended superlux HD681 headphones from a while back), couldn't be happier.

let me know what you plan on moving. i could see myself being interested in some.

i see you wenis - you'd be interested in some of these singles? ill see what i can do as far as an inventory, prolly just get you whatever for the price of shipping man

That Kendrick on Colbert performance made me put on To Pimp A Butterfly again (first time since the week it came out). Some of the tracks are as awful as I remember, mainly the interludes and i, and it still has some obnoxious deliveries / voices from Kendrick, but I have to admit that the middle of the album is one good track after another:

Institutionalized
These Walls
u
Alright
Momma
Hood Politics
How Much a Dollar Cost
Complexion

Can run through that entire section without skipping anything.

Speaking of Kendrick and TPAB...People always talk about replayability like it's such a tremendous factor in determining quality when in reality an album that's more thought provoking and evocative might see less plays because it requires greater attention than say your average trap album. For example, a film like Schindler's List is probably less replayed than something like Grandma's Boy, but that doesn't mean that Grandma's Boy is a better film.

oh of course, it was clear from the beginning

anyways maybe we are finally seeing why tde did jay as they did

Naw it wasn't clear for me, we're talking about RP now : P

Five tracks in, I'm getting the impression that this shit just got off the pan. No simmering, no direction, nothing. It sounds like a snippet of a bigger album, so on that note...fuck TDE's management once again. This shit is pretty much a free mixtape with a price tag.

Yeah I want to corroborate this. My favorite albums get slightly less plays than usually my sort of second tier favorites. Just usually because I do want to give them more attention. Where as my second tier of favorites tends to be my favorite tunes that still have a replayability or shuffle appeal.

Listening to Rock. Okay so far. The beat changes are too frequent and abrupt so far, though. I don't understand when people complain about Travis ' beat changes which are always coherent and dynamic, imo. These here sound like they literally just inserted a short transition "swoosh" sound-effect after every few minutes. I'm only at the second half, though. Might get less.
The Telegram beat is really smooth!

That's true on replayability, definitely isn't required for something to be good. Though there's a limit for me. Something has to be at least somewhat listenable, regardless of how accomplished the musicians are or how interesting a read it is on a lyrics page. If I don't like how something sounds, then I can't get into it that much. It's like a game with mediocre gameplay surrounded by great visuals, a great soundtrack, story, etc.

Movies are a lot different for me than albums. Most movies, even ones I love, I've seen once or twice. Same with games for some reason, I very rarely replay games. But a lot of my favourite albums are ones that I can go back to for many years.

Good point. I realized that, too. I rarely play TBAP now, but it still will be in my Top 5.

I actually love the beat transitions, but there should have been a theme to it.

Yeah you can definitely hear the skeleton of his flow in QM even if he has lousy cadence and delivery. It's more apparent than say Gillie the Kid and Wayne back in the day.

TPAB has a lot of replay value to me, in large part due to how great the instrumentation is - not to mention how unconventional it is. You hear something new or different during each listen in the first release month.

Some tracks bring it to a screeching halt for me and demand to be skipped, but stretches of it are straight up beautiful. Getting dudes like Glasper and Kamasi Washington on there definitely paid off.

Yeah I don't agree with that at all, it's better as a cohesive whole, which is a testament its craftmanship in my opinion. Kendrick makes albums in a similar fashion to how the Beatles crafted albums. The somewhat harsh sounding vocals at times make way to beautiful instrumentation and revelations.

Can definitely tell that's the intention, but there are a few spots where I just can't get past how it sounds Regardless of how well it fits in with the rest of the album conceptually.

It's not as bad as when I first head it, though. It's mainly the interludes and i. Take off those three tracks and I don't think I'd skip anything else.

I go back to TPAB once a while and it still gets me the chills. Hearing "Momma" once again...Jesus that Lalah Hathaway sample.

So it's safe to say that GAF Hop not feeling that new Jay Rock or marinating in the album?

Overall it's a ok album. Probably his best work over Follow Me Home to be honest, but yeah...bring on Isiah Rashad.

Dude I don't like I either, but you've made it seem as though you skip a large quantity of the album when in fact what you're skipping is miniscule.

Man he the truth with these dubs, the Ninja Turtles series is legendary.

Yeah I guess I was overstating it a bit lol. I've warmed up to some songs a lot compared to my initial reaction (which is kinda rare for me).

Musically it just sounds so good. Even a track like You Ain't Gotta Lie where Kendrick isn't rapping much (vocals sound pretty good tbh) it works.

I'll probably peep it later. I dunno, I'm not really all that eager, even though I like Rock. Still need to listen to Populair also, though people have been saying that's a disappointment =[

colbert holds up the vinyl at the end too
Yeah, they're keeping it from the people though.
Why don't rappers release their mixtapes on Spotify or any other streaming app? I mean, they can be sued for not clearing samples regardless of profiting over the songs, so why not?
Well, I feel like putting it up on Spotify is drawing attention to it from bigger corporations. I believe people getting sued over mixtapes isn't frequent enough to just be like "well it'll happen anyway soo.."
Jay Rock dripped and I'm at work SMFH

Tell me how it is brehs
Yeah, I'm at school. I'll check it out later. I'm interested in that posse cut.
Try again next year Mikey. Not supporting this.
The only song I don't really listen to is For Sale, and it's not because it's "bad." I simply haven't listened to it in quite awhile.
I'll definitely go with For Free here. Otherwise I run through the whole album. Figuring out my favorite track is the true challenge for me.
