Drake hopping on the rapper who's been the hottest in 2015 eh? Needing that relevancy already eh?

Tendencies of Jigga with none of the writing.

Knowledge is power, guard it well

That boy Q snapped, damn yo. While the beat is dope, the only other thing to note is that Kendrick probably came up with the rhyme cadence, so props to him too.

Man they need to play Control System in schools, as a poster board "this is your brain before drugs" example.

The fuck happened to you, Soul? Yo ass used to be beautiful.

There's a Rashad feature? OMG tomorrow can't come soon enough.

yeah, first exciting thing ive heard of it so far - lookin forward to that

A Future x Drake mixtape would end the world.

do their styles really line up that well? feels like the kinda collabo that just leaves me revisiting their solo stuff, could be wrong here

I think people kinda overreacted to Oxymoron just because it took so long and wasn't good kid mAAd city part 2. The song with 2 Chainz is boring and Hell of a Night is what it is, but I think the rest of the album is at least decent. And Break the Bank is nuts.
I agree. I still think it's a pretty solid album; disappointment though.
It's aight.

Eh, Drake brought Future on tour back in 2013 didn't he? They've been cool for a while now.

Definitely good timing after Dirty Sprite 2 though.

yeah they been cool.

i'm type salty about this actually happening and not the Ross/Drake tape though. they're a much better combo than Future/Drake.

We will totally get this Wolves album, just after Watch the Throne 2, two days before Cruel Winter, together with that J Cole/Kendrick album.

Just watched the Vice City video. Why would they go with that terrible flow. All of them lmao.

Q's verse was kinda entertaining though.

First impressions of 90059....I feel like this album is a poster child for the importance of having an actual exec producer. There are some good tracks on this album and some good ideas, but overall it just doesn't mesh into anything special - in large part because nobody is there to steer the ship. It starts out pretty strong but even by the second song you run into a horrible decision. That SZA interlude should be an actual song, period. I "get" that the album has a variety of beat changes that imitate someone surfing from one radio station to the next but still...this was fucking stupid.

Things basically start falling off once the "concept" seems to begin with Telegram. I'm still stunned why no one vetoed that title track chorus btw. Then Vice City comes along with horrible flows all around. I don't even get the appeal of Q's verse, nor do I like Kendrick's "hook" at all. That beat is meant to be ripped apart with flow after flow, but instead they get cute. "Black Hippy" works in large part because each member has a different style; everyone using the same flow concept kills that novelty.

Fly On The Wall is a great song...until Busta shows up and completely changes the tone/concept. It's a great introspective track with some vivid lyricism, and perhaps some of Jay Rock's best rapping. It feels like something that wouldn't be out of place on GKMC in fact. Then Busta shows up. Why would you greenlight that? If Busta wants to be on the album, give him a banger he can flow over like Necessary. The album then ends on a kind of bland note with The Message.

There's about half of a great album here. Necessary, Easy Bake, Gumbo, Wanna Ride, and The Ways are all dope. Give me that SZA track in full, Vice City with them straight up rapping, the title track without that horrendous hook, Fly On The Wall without Busta, and Money Trees Duece. Then add a couple more tracks and you'd have a dope album.

I see the album really getting panned on the Coli, here, and by some folks on twitter. Reviews probably won't be kind either. This simply isn't the album you make fans wait four years for.

Yeah but PD... How do you feel about Rodeo?

I might fuck about and write two mini reviews for the both of these albums tomorrow. Pending drake/fewtch take over.

Yup breh. SZA sounds angelic on that shit. The beat is smooth, Rock is flowing well...then it ends. Come on. That's the type of track you gain some buzz with, not waste as an interlude...

wow is there any credence to that future/drake tape coming this week? shit would be amazing.

where you at still getting mad play for me right now.

That Vice City flow/beat was basically custom fit for Q. Dude owns it IMO. The video actually has a longer verse.. Which makes no sense. Like 15 seconds longer.

Think esch said this rock album is just light - so true.

I don't hate it, but I'm not gonna remember this in 2 days. Also its crazy how much better his last album was.

They really need some quality control over there at TDE, it's clear they have it in them but it's amateur hour with most of their releases. The last 2 minutes of Easy Bake bangs just as how the last 2 minutes of Just Have Fun was good but that quality just doesn't extend to the rest of the album.

I don't know why they kept that last minute or so of Money Trees Deuce for the album release, keep that shit for live shows or something.

Also - I'm not seeing it on spotify... will it be coming there?

Telegram, though. I like the album. It's a smooth listen, I even wish it was longer. But yeah, some of the best tracks are wasted on interludes.

that just sounds like it'd be a lot of struggle all around.
Man you guys are both wrong. Cole is pretty good on trap records, but Peter you're definitely underrating Kendrick's versatility and ability to renegade just about anyone on any type of track.

JEALOUS
Two Presidents
Catch-a-Fade

...Umm yeah Kendrick is pretty impressive on any beat.

Why do replay value discussions always go back to Schindler's List lol

Replay value is still king though, IMO, at least when you're talking about personal rankings. I can admit one album is more thought provoking and impactful or even better outright, yet rank it much lower than something else that caught my ear and made me go back time and time again. It has nothing to do with deeper music inherently being less replayable or whatever, it's just about the sounds and flows that catch my ear and create a tone I want to go back to. In that sense I get where Fjordson is coming from regarding TPAB. Sometimes you ain't into all of Kendrick's more coarse vocal qualities, or you might not always be in the mood for the style of music he's drawing inspiration from.

I wasn't talking about deep or conscious music specifically, but was just using it as an example. What I'm really talking about is recognizing the different utilities of various albums. Don't front like you've heard many pedantic albums that carry the same sort of accessible grooves as say a Drake album. I love Drake, but let's be real, his albums aren't albums in the same sense that Kendrick's albums are albums. The subgenre definitely has an affect on the tone of the album, and albums with strong concepts are more likely to employ moments of abrasion or utilize somewhat off-kilter styles of music to enhance a story or theme. Kendrick is yet to make an album that's just a collection of radio songs.

Think esch said this rock album is just light - so true.

I don't hate it, but I'm not gonna remember this in 2 days. Also its crazy how much better his last album was.

Umm yeah because his last album was super memorable....

Not really. Drake showing up on Where Ya At was kinda like that awkward moment when a little kid walks in the room during a very adult conversation.
