As Master P dropped the holy grail of gangsta rap albums in 1996. Its time for his little brother Silkk the Shockers moment of truth with his debut album The Shocker. Before we get into the album, let me enlighten you on some fun facts. Slikk the Shocker is probably one of the worst rappers of all time. He runs after the beat like a damsel running after her love in a 40s movie, he tries to throw every rap style into one damn song, and his delivery is pretty much back to sender because holy shit
dude is garbage. We all know Master P isnt any better, but he stays on beat and actually freestyles his god awful, but effective lyrics. Silkk takes time and dedication with his craft, but its still hit and miss. Another fun fact, did you know that Silkk had to add The Shocker to his name because of issues with the infamous R & B group Silk? One last fact, the album cover you are looking at has a parental advisory sticker over a 9mm glock that Silkk is holding.
Anyway back to the album. For a debut solo from a garbage rapper, this is actually good
.no its actually great. Silkk manage to hold his own with his weird rap style on tracks like Murder, I Represent (best song on the album btw), No Limit Party (another good track), and If My 9 Could Talk. There really isnt a bad track on the album at all for Silkk, which is truly a plus for a rapper that has some good moments. Of course the No Limit posse comes through with some features on the album, but this is Silkks moment of shine. He made those godly Beats by the Pound beats work with his struggling and surviving flow.
Bottom line, I recommend this album since this is his best work. Im serious, 1996 was a peak year for the No Limit army. Ice Cream Man had people going insane and this album doesnt fall short from the glory.
