Drake on top of his game. Still evolving, even after 6 years.

Do you think he will be mentioned in GOAT lists in 10 years like Pac, Jay, Nas, etc., though? I somehow still doubt it. Don't know why, but it doesn't feel like he's even seen as a rapper mainly and more like an "artist", especially if he continues having more and more mainstream hits like Hold On or Hotline where he's only singing on. However I wouldn't consider him a worldstar yet. His only remotely mainstream and worldwide hit - I'm talking "even your mum knows and hums the song when it comes on the radio in Germany" mainstream - was Hold On. I doubt anybody knows Hotline Bling over here yet. Maybe a few months or maybe even half a year later than in the US, as usual, lol.

I don't think young hip hop fans will be making GOAT lists in 10 years, or at least not with the same criteria you're mentioning.

Yeah, probably. In our dust era lyricism was the main thing. Now it's probably "swag" for the lack of a better word. And I don't even have a problem with that, honestly. I'm also listening to rap in a different way nowadays.
Young Thug GOAT -

But, as I said, I'm talking mainstream mainstream outside of the rap/urban scene of younger cats. My friends' moms will know Kanye (recently less for his music, though) or Eminem, but Drake? Nah. NWTS, IYRTITL and WATTBA had zero mainstream presence outside of the US/CA. Trap doesn't work on the radio here. You need Rihanna as a feature to have a hit (see Jay-Z, Kanye and Eminem, who are the only US rappers in Germany that went Top 10 in the last ten years or so (!)).

Of course he will be mentioned in GOAT lists because there's an entire generation growing up with him now; and if true or not: everyone will decide this for themselves which is why GOAT lists are trash anyway and useless in an age where everybody can speak out loud (I see it more as a meme)

I still think that Drake lacks a proper 'classic' album. Take Care was close, but not quite there. 6God/Fraud-Drake might be the one who will do it if he stays in the 0-100 lane

Man, Drake looking like me in the club brehs. I can relate to this.
I, for one, am glad rappers are reaching out more and more to my people with moves we can actually perform. It all began with Fat Joe. These are his misbegotten, barely rhythmic children.
Don't forget Drake is half Jewish. They like you to think otherwise shiftyeyesemoji.jpg
Kendrick is already better than biggie
Not even gonna lie, as somebody who grew up on biggie.. it's close.

And that's exactly why they're the perfect metric for true worldwide stardom. If you have several hits in Germany as an US-rapper you really made it past the horrendous charts here. US-Rap died after the G-Unit era, not joking. Only Kanye got relatively big, though, he's only known for his scandals and as Kardashian's husband in the last few years. Okay, FourFiveSeconds charted for a while. Eminem and Jay-Z (through Rihanna/Alicia Keys Pop-features) stayed relevant. It's only those 3.

Too much of a fraud. Nelly and Ma$e sold a lot of records too.

At this point he can't be compared to Nelly. At this point it's safe to say no rapper has done what Drake has done; his dominance of the charts is unparalleled. Even his throwaways are hits, even his "street" singles are hits. He's comfortably going platinum in an era where album sales are depleted.

He's right on the wave of the mainstream as well as hip hop audiences brehs. Safe to say he's already a legend at this point, and tbh I really don't see how he won't be dominating 2-3 years from now as well. Who is gonna stop him?

I think he's an average rapper at best but we live in an era where people don't care whether people were COs, write their own rhymes, etc. It doesn't matter to people.

Drake's nearly universal appeal is rare. He's got fans in almost every demographic aside from dustheads who don't really count anyways.

Stolen from the Hotline Bling thread in OT. But Drake responded to the criticism of him stealing the track Cha Cha:
“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim and it’s like, everyone has to do a song on that,” Drake said. “Imagine that in rap, or imagine that in R&B. Imagine if we got one beat and every single person—me, this guy, this guy, all these guys—had to do a song on that one beat. So sometimes I’ll pick a beat that’s a bit, like, sunnier, I guess is the word you used, than usual, and I just try my hand at it. And that’s kind of what ‘Hotline Bling’ was. And I loved it. It’s cool. I’ve been excited by that sort of creative process.”

“You know, like in Jamaica, you’ll have a riddim

Fucking hell.

Brehs. I really, really don't mean this ironically, but Young Thug is one of the best rappers ever when it comes to riding beats. He's basically the Abella Anderson of rap.
