this has a great eminem song on it

"A brainiac, with a cranium packed, full of more uranium
Than a maniac Saudi Arabian"

and especially the delivery of

"Give me eleven Excedrin my head'll spin
Medicine'll get me revvin like a 747 jet engine"

are just dope

Em's track on here always makes me wonder: Where would his career be now had he signed to Rawkus or Duckdown instead of Aftermath? Would he have been the mythical albino lyrical miracle to never leave the underground? An Internet legend never to see mainstream success?

Damn this sounds fire as hell just from reading it.

Oh I agree, they definitely need some help

Yikes the lawyer was going in.

I was gonna go in on Pharrell's music IQ getting annihilated...but tbh does that shit even matter. Most of my favorite producers can't read music or write it. But at least my faves wouldn't pretend like they know how to read music and then take that L like Skateboard P.

Yeah that makes him look bad plus the way the lawyer tied in his XXL magazine interview into the questions about being able to tell the difference between chord progressions and the Marvin Gaye inspirations. It was evident he had no legal standing in the case.

Everybody should be able to read sheet music.

Holy fuck Pharrell.

i cant even read shit but i agree, a big time producer not following music theory is so weird to me

Listening to Documentary 2 and I'm surprised Game hasn't reduced his name dropping. I mean I kind of understand him doing that in Doc1 but why keep doing that now? FFS its really annoying.

I heard Rob Markman (decent music journalist from mtv) argue now everyone name drops so holding it against Game is unfair; plus Game created a trend and deserves credit.

In reality Game name drops significantly more than any rapper you can think of, to the point it takes my attention away from the actual music. There's a difference between using a name reference as a minor reference and doing what Game does lol.

He's a glorified groupie breh. Those features aren't gonna pay for themselves

Doesn't deserve a full review but Doc 2.5 is better than Doc 2. Overall still relatively forgettable, but songs like Crenshaw and Gang Bang Anyway shit on anything on Doc 2. The production is a pretty big step up from the jump, at least it seems like that initially, but is more familiar than you'd like most of the time. Mostly struggle features all around besides those in the songs mentioned above (even Jay Rock brought it), but most noticeably the Nas and Quik features are super underwhelming. The beat on the Quik song was straight though, just various levels of cheese and boring material layered atop it.

Like Father Like Son 2 isn't bad.. but it shouldn't have had a sequel and is nowhere as good as the original.

Ya'll really believe Pharrell doesn't know basic music theory? He holds back laughter when the lawyer asks him if he can read musical notes.

He's doing exactly what he's supposed to do at a bullshit deposition, which is give them as little as possible. Nothing awkward or embarrassing about this at all.

So what does the definitive Documentary 2.1 actually look like
Combined but filtered down to ~12 songs

Don't Trip
Bitch You Ain't Shit
The Documentary 2
100
Just Another Day
LA

Crenshaw/80s
Gang Bang Anyway
The Ghetto
From Adam
Quiks Groove
Like Father Like Son 2

Still wouldn't recommend this combined album to anyone, though.

Kind of surprised at the responses, really.

It's like...do yall really think Birdman has no idea about/nothing to do with the troubles of his label just because he said so on camera?

Some of you guys are gullible as fuck. Pharrell doesn't know shit about music, 50 Cent is as broke as a hobo, Birdman has no clue about what caused the Lil Wayne's situation. Keep believing official bullshit spit to fit their interests.

One of these things is not like the others.

Game the Ditto of the rap game, but Docu 2 is still a fun product. All I'm taking off the otherwise forgettable 2.5 is the Nas joint, in which you have to discern whose verse is whose.

I mean it's fully believable that Pharell doesn't know music theory like that.

It's not like going through rigorous classical training is prerequisite for being a great hip-hop/hip-pop producer.
