Haha I actually just wanted your honest opinion- came across this on twitter, and this totally is NOT my genre, so I just kinda listen to stuff like that and can't formulate an opinion. I wanted your take on it cuz youd know if it was good or trash.

It's trash. The main reason why dudes like Spaceghostpurrp are making ground is because unlike a lot of these dudes, he understands the need to have actual fucking rhythm and funk. He also respects and understands the sound he's going for/building on (Memphis).

What's good with you peter? Haven't heard anything from you in a minute. I know you caught the music bug...

Fuck that nonsense. Not everyone wants dumb downed stupid music for high school drop outs.

That's why Mac Miller and Killah Priest exist.

I'm not saying all hip hop needs to be good (lol), but KRIT was the spiritual successor to Pimp C.

It's like if the spiritual successor to Eminem didn't cry about him mom, being rich and whiney. See? Asher Roth didn't take off because he didn't fulfill Em's niche. KRIT is doing the same thing for my genre.

lol seriously. "Get this meaningful shit out of my speakers" may be the single dumbest fucking statement made in this thread yet.

Missed the point bro. If I want meaningful shit, I'll put on some Roots. How would you like it if Atmosphere started making Trap Rap with French and Gucci?

Speak for yourself by yourself, don't listen to it, the ignorant dumb shit outnumbers the meaningful music. Some of us are really going through it and need this type of music.

Ask anyone from the projects. The last thing you want to hear about is how it sucks to be in the projects. That's why conscious shit doesn't pop off in the hood. When you live on shaggy orange carpet and live off Ramen you don't want to hear about it when you're listening to music. You want to hear http://youtu.be/dp9ch-dAKk0

See thats why I came to you, you know your shit.

As far as my music goes, I'm sitting on a shitton of unfinished stuff, which unfortunately prob wont get done for another month or two- keyboard died, and finals are coming up which are a bitch and half. At least I have a decent job for this summer, hopefully I can get a new keyboard, maybe even an mpc.

We gonna get more 2prettyforporno?

Just because you have preconceived notions on what an artist is suppose to be, doesnt make what they do wrong. You want stupid music, look beyond Krit. Even Krit Wuz Here had introspective shit on it, your fault if you thought otherwise.

It did. As did every UGK and 8 Ball & MJG album. But you save that shit for a couple tracks. Not the whole damn tape.

EDIT: It's almost like if Nas made a song about trading jewelry and champagne for pussy feat Genuwine.....wait a second....

I wouldn't be surprised if he's saving the bangers and big features for his album.

Call me crazy but for some reason I believe this to be true. K.R.I.T. just seems like the guy thats gonna make me a masterpiece of Southern hip-hop and do it right. Not some Rolling Papers shit or Adventures of Bobby Ray shit)not southern rap I'm aware but first commercial releases from artists with pretty good lead up mixtapes).

I'm expecting some Southernplaya type shit out of this dude. I know its hard to accomplish that kind of thing this day and age without already being established. Record exec's pushing you to put out the pop, but I dunno I believe in K.R.I.T.

Kendrick and Q too.

Does anyone have any suggestions for duet rap karaoke? Particularly for two white guys (lol) trying to seem party/dance-centric yet still a bit serious. It doesn't really have to have two rappers in the song but that would be more in character.

I was thinking Ride Wit Me by Nelly? Something fun!

4Eva N A Day was classic smooth shit. But his single for his album is more what you want, so I dont see the complaint about his direction.

I don't like the new single. Feels forced where as before his bangers felt natural and had naivety about them. Like he didn't even know he was doing it that well.

Then on R4 he became self aware, it wasn't as natural and pure but still top quality.

Now 4eva na Day it's just like he sat in on too many Questlove sessions. Just a bummer for me. Also likely a bummer for his sales, though I do wish him the best and will support and anticipate the fuck out of the album.

"KRIT Wuz Here" was my 2010 AOTY here on GAF. It's not like I dislike the dude at all.

You want a free ticket to go see Yelawolf and Rittz in Oxford at the Brickhouse 4/18? Just PM me. I got an extra.

Firstly gotta say I disagree with the whole notion of so called dumb music only being enjoyed by retards or whatever. I'm sure plenty of intelligent people listen to music that isn't that intellectually fulfilling. Music moves the body and while it's great that rap which is what we primarily enjoy here can focus on many different topics while maintaining a rhythm we enjoy, that doesn't mean that rap which doesn't have a message is damaging to anyone or that it's listeners somehow forfeit a triple figure IQ due to dangerous exposure to it.

There is a difference between music that is dumbed down to pander to a certain demographic, and music that is ignorant because of the creators' style or their experiences coming across in the music as ignorant.

As for K.R.I.T. I believe that when he was coming up he was simply synthesising his influences as best he could. I would assume his actual experience of pimping is minimal if not non-existent, but he has comfortably produced very good songs about it quite a few times because he knows the feel of UGK or 8ball and MJG instrumentals inside out. Now he has come along far in his production and songcraft and is attempting to give more of his own voice and concerns in the songs he makes. I think we will have a better picture of all he offers once his album comes out, but K.R.I.T. has proved pretty adept at toeing the line between ignorance and intelligence so far and I have little reason to believe that is going to stop in the future. I personally liked 4eva N A Day a lot as I felt that while it didn't reach some peaks of his previous projects, it was well written, cohesive and built on certain themes he has presented before very well. I Got This and Money On The Floor to me make it blatant that he's holding back for Live From The Underground in the same way that Rick Ross (who I don't like all that much, great beat picker, commanding vocals but asthmatic flow and delusions I find hard to deal with) was holding back on that Rich Forever tape.

FWIW my IQ tests at genius, I've got an engineering degree and I can speak proper English when the situation calls for it.

I just can't get the ghetto out of me, nor do I want to. It's the "home" feeling. *cue R4 theme song*

I'll smoke weed, love 70-96 big ass Chevy's and drink Heineken for the rest of my life. Even if it's some BC buds, it's going in a Swisher.

http://turntable.fm/gafhop @Kamspy as far as I know. I was about to say that it's only as far as I know because my subscription on unblock.us that some kind soul here told me about has run out but something strange happened. I dunno if they finally stopped pussing out and made it legal in UK but I seemed to be able to get in without hotspot shield.

Nobody said liking ignorant rap makes you stupid or that only stupid people can enjoy it. I love ignorant rap, and my Masters degree having ass is far from stupid. But if someone only enjoys that kind of rap, you do have to wonder about their intelligence. Kam likes plenty of non ignorant rap, so I don't think anyone was accusing him of being stupid, just that the concept that Krit should stick to ignorant shit only is stupid...as fuck. Krit has never been a 100% ignorant rapper, it's always been half and half. Bemoaning him for wanting to have something of substance to say is foolish.

Welcome back Des!!

On another note, my girl just bought us tickets to that Drake/J.Cole tour. Fuck yeah!

She's a lesbian, she wants you to grow a vagina of your own. By the end of that concert you'll have at least 3 growing.

I am leaning toward The Real Slim Shady right now. The two of us will switch on verses 1 and 2, then do verse 3 together to top it off.

If anybody's familiar with Tri Angle Records, I talked to an unnamed representative on a international turntable clone site and found out that there is some sort of huge RVIDXR KLVN/Tri Angle collaboration in the works.
