all I hope from French is that he doesnt pull some Asap shit and sticks with the sound he has on last tape, which sounds likely cause he listed all the same producers.. but that Lana Del Ray mention..
Artists should progress for sure. Sticking to the same sound can make it a bit boring. Some should probably stay in their lane, but a little change doesn't hurt. Artists can get boring if they keep releasing shit that sounds the same. I love Currensy, but I sometimes get bored cause he keeps releasing the same sounding stuff (albeit more often than most). ASAP changed, but he still sounds like ASAP on the new album.

I think that Bronson song is good because it forced him to flow a little differently.

He now has 1.5 flows.

yeah i noticed that, but he still has the same subject matter

reminds of pusha t naming his album "my name is my name" basically saying, i rap about coke, deal with it.

OMG he fucking ruined that Marlo quote in the mixtape lol. I just bursted out laughing everytime I heard "my name is my name!" during Wrath of Caine. Won't be able to take that scene seriously anymore.

And yeah Flatbush Zombies are uninteresting. Only thing I kind of enjoyed them on was that song on the ASAP Mob album. Bath Salt with ASAP Rocky and ASAP 50 Tyson

That track is alright. I think BAMZ is kinda goofy, though, and it definitely isn't Flatbush's best ft. Though, they've yet to do anything else on the level of Bath Salts--ft or not.

I'd agree with that but it isn't really a slight against them because other than that terrible ASAP Ant feature the whole track is one of the best songs of 2012.

Combat Jack Show with Pusha T.
- Pusha released Revolution without Pharrell knowing
- Pusha tried to sign Chief Keef when he heard 3Hunna, manager didn't take him seriously
- Told Ye about Chief Keef, they looked at signing him, "numbers didn't work," did I Don't Like anyways
- Says GOOD Music's process wasn't down with mixtapes when he got signed
- Didn't know what to do with the looks he was getting with Runaway and So Appalled, causing his 2011 year to be what it is
- Talks difference between Neptunes production and GOOD production, everyone at GOOD being afraid of Ye editing their verses, competing with themselves to stay on the track
- Says Big Sean is who he has to watch out for most out of the GOOD camp, CyHi slept on because his platform isn't built yet for people to listen to him
- Host compares Pusha to Cons and says he took Cons' place in the camp
- Pusha says Cons was around during GOOD Friday times, they were cool and Cons just went off out of nowhere to try and promote himself
- Talks relationship with Troy Ave
- No Clipse album planned, but Kanye, Pharrell and Malice are all bouncing ideas around
- Talks issues and beefs over the course of his career, progression of his career
- Looked at Life After Death, Hard Knock Live vol. 2 and Harlem World as influences for My Name Is My Name
- 8 records into album recording, has a Just Blaze record on it
- Having issues with cohesion with his album, that is "the battle" right now, felt pressured by GKMC because he takes it as a grand example of cohesion
- Holy shit Pusha is 35?!
- It's spelled YUUGH or UUGH

without knowing the theme to begin with, plus having diff producers on every track, this will always be a battle, listening to gkmc, and section 80, you can tell he had a framework in place, you cant reverse engineer cohesion

Good to see Combat Jack getting more love. It has started 2013 with a bang. Haven't listened to the Raekwon interview yet but I'm really looking forward to it

Chief Keef shouldn't have been forced as hard, he could've been better. Someone should've signed him AND Young Chop. Now Young Chop took Chief Keef's sound everywhere and Keef doesn't have a sound. Keef's chance at being a player is done.

Well that just means that Keef never had a sound, and that it was Young Chop's.

Fuck i wouldve loved to see them. Im guessing they were great shows?

The first was part of the Smokin Grooves tour, which was a legendary tour in my opinion,

The second I had worse seats and it was indoors but, who cares when you got Freddie Foxxx Big Shugg showin up, the highlight though was during Roots when Mos Def came out to rock Double Trouble, also playing Full Clip with the whole crowd at Hammerstein Ballroom chanting "Big L rest in peace", was pretty awesome too. :)

Forced hard? This isn't the 90s, A&Rs don't give a fuck. There is next to no artist develop today, and "support" now means "here's a Hit Boy beat and a Drake hook, good luck nigga."

Rappers are now coming to labels with built in fan bases, mixtape fame, an image, etc. So the label is kind of confused in how to deal with what already seems like a finished package isn't appealing to the masses. I may not like J Cole's album, but Roc Nation did the right thing by holding his shit until it felt like something that could work. Not everyone is Kendrick, who basically got to do whatever he wanted (including multiple songs over 5 minutes long, thus ensuring he gets more money per sale), and created a truly great album without label politics.

It's interesting that you have two examples of big releases by "new" artists in 2012 - one by Kendrick, the other Krit - that got large amounts of control over their own projects, yet were met with completely opposite results. Not everyone is Kendrick (or Drake, for that matter).

I truly believe Dre had a HUGE impact on making GKMC what it is. That is your drive for artist development right there. Kendrick's flaws as an artist were minimized under his guidance, and GKMC is leaps and bounds more cohesive than Section80, the theme is much tighter, the sequencing is on-point, and every track feels like it's there for a reason and in it's place for a reason.

The only other mentors of the sort I see in the game right now with this potential are Ross and Ye. Ross signs artists that are in his own lane and lagging behind him anyways so they don't get that shine. Ye is fairly hands on, but most of his artists fail to get themselves a movement going. Big Sean got one going but it damn near took him half a decade to do so. CuDi got one and he's the analogous success story here, as he's also built a relatively large core fanbase off of it.

Pretty much the only way you'll get albums of that caliber from newcomers if you have both elements of the formula: a driving, supportive force that can guide the project and new artist, and the raw talent and creativity of the artist. Though with the latter, like PD said above me, not everyone is Kendrick.

wale stalley and omarion are in rozay's lane ?

Mostly talking Wale/Meek/Gunplay/Triple Cs/French venture w/Diddy.

I think Rockie Fresh is a good example of him doing it right though. Was watching an interview with him the other day and he said a lot of the beats on Electric Highway came straight from Ross surprisingly. Something him and Dre share with that case, they know what they're artists' styles and sounds are, and want to cultivate it, not supplant it. Dre has definitely done that with Em and 50.
