Ross is just a one trick pony, and eventually everyone gets tired of that trick no matter how good the pony is at it. And then it gets dragged round back and sold to the glue factory.

Yeah but when PD posted the #s I have to admit I was shocked. I didn't think he even sold that much. That's pretty impressive actually.

I never got into Ross and outside of his verse on Life Is Good, I never ever heard him spit anything other than his usual "I'm a bawws....money money money girls girls girls" fare.

That White Walls song is so straight up awful btw. Definitely one of the worst songs ive heard on the radio in ages. Honestly that new Eminem and Ri song is better. Even that new Kesha and Pitbull song is less infuriating.

I have no idea what the song is even about but I do like the beat. Def sounds like some bollywood sounds infused.

Its one of those beats where you immediately think "man if only someone else was on this"

Numbers didn't actually surprise me too much. For a long time Ross was the best at what he did. It might have been one dimensional but it was a kind if rap that has an audience and he was doing it better than everyone else. But like I said, eventually people get tired of even the neatest trick and want a new face or a new trick to marvel at.

Yeah I knew there was an audience for it but I think there is a difference between the album buying audience and "hot at the moment" play all day in the car or radio audience. Apparently he had both.

Good for Ross though. I thought that whole Officer Ricky stuff would have buried him. Instead its 50 who went missing in action.

Well I own "Things Fall Apart" now, since I bought it for my mom for Christmas and it had the Auto-Rip function on it

I'll probably download it today and give it a listen

Yeah I'm still not sure how that happened. I thought for sure at the time Ross was done for. The fact he came out of that even more famous is bizarre to me.

On another subject, man of the year has become my go to "going out tonight, lets get on the right vibe first" song. Song deserves all the hype or got. So fucking good.

I think it goes to show that fans who actually buy music, don't really care for the supposed "hard" image. They know its all fake and pumped up anyway to sell a gimmick. So while 50 exposed him for being a liar and a fake as far as the image goes, Ross kept on trucking because he kept making music that played on the radio, in the clubs, and as I am finding out now sold well.

50 on the other hand is stuck in limbo unable to make radio friendly songs or making quality music in general.

True, it's probably why it worked with ja rule. He didn't end ja's career and further his own for exposing ja rule for being what everyone already knew he was. 50 got huge because his songs were catchy and people wanted to listen and ja rules career died because he couldn't make anything people wanted to listen to anymore. I always said ja killed ja. He could have embraced his lane instead of spazzing out about it.

I give Ross credit for weathering the CO storm. At the time, would anyone have guessed he's be far more relevant than 50 Cent in a few years? He definitely rebounded with Teflon Don and took things over.

That's why GFID was so disappointing, and IMO marked the return to normalcy and end of his run. I don't think anyone thought Teflon Don would be as big as it was, but GFID was supposed to be his big coming out album. It was supposed to solidify his position as not on Wayne/Drake level but somewhere within that "guaranteed hit" range. That's why he got five singles before release, a bunch of videos, able to release a huge mixtape with videos, etc; he had a big budget.

Yes it went gold, barely. I think it's clear he underperformed and it's obvious he has a smaller budget now. He can't afford to simply release the album as a mixtape and re-record the album again. He has returned to a diminishing returns situation, and I guarantee this album will sell 400k and disappear. MMG is over outside of Wale IMO...

Let's be real here bros,

Even though GKMC is a better album, Macklemore has made impacT in the charts and society, and The Grammy's will get very good press by giving the AOTY to The Heist, a statement album. It's basically the creed they've dying to get for years.

I actually liked the dude after hearing his EP two years ago. Had some incredible songs on there. But this constant ass kissing hero worship of him because of same love pisses me off. He isn't the first rapper to address the issue, just the most marketable and safe.

Speaking of the great white hope, a bunch of white people walked into the bar and now we are on.l a Macklemore marathon (bar has a jukebox type set up) they even cancelled out my Kendrick and snoop dogg songs to play this shit. If it wasn't a bunch of chicks in bikinis for a bachelorette party is be more heated.

Pepperidge farm remembers.

Lol, but for real, dude was a cornball, but he had some really great songs scattered in.

Also until you've done the Carlton dance in a packed club, you haven't really lived.

I'm sure him being white helped because race always plays a hand negative or positive but lets be real here now. No one would care for him if Thrift Shop and Can't Hold Us weren't catchy as hell. The fact those two singles blew up and then he followed it up with Same Love is the reason he will win everything he is up for.

I don't think Same Love has the same impact or reach if it was say his first introduction to the world type of song. He got two hits under his belt and then had fans waiting to see what he would release next. Good strategy.

Well yeah, the larger audience and media tend to ignore rappers output unless they happen to also be big at the time. If he hadn't gotten all that attention for thrift shop, same love would have been just another rap song people ignored so they could continue thinking rap is full of hatred and negativity and nothing else.

The problem with this argument is that Macklemore is making pretty boilerplate backpack stuff, yet is seeing success unseen by those artists. It's not just him being white, it's his look. Atmosphere has way better songs than him, with the exact same sound, yet girls aren't checking for Slug.

Murs put out a pro gay song more than a year ago, including a video of him playing a gay character, last year and it barely has 500k views.

I've listened to enough backpack stuff to know when someone is making catchy stuff. Atmosphere, K-OS, Murs, etc have been doing it for years - and I'm not even a fan of any of them, I'm just being honest, they have some catchy songs. Does anyone think Thrift Shop becomes a major hit if Murs put it out?

It was a perfect storm of things. Sob story/addiction history, hugely catchy lead single, cute enough for girls to pay attention, technically good enough for guys to be okay with, other popular white rapper getting too old/irrelevant. You cant just pinpoint any one thing with macklemore.

Fucking new age dipshit garbage. Our body physically cleanses itself constantly, without any need of help from us with our misguided and often unhealthy diets and regiments like all juice and vegan.

It does help though. Not if you do it for 22 days and continue on eating like crap, but there are marked benefits to plant based diets.

Well I don't know what propelled Macklemore past other indie or backpack scene rappers. Nor am I denying his skin color helping him. Of course it did.

I don't really know his history. I heard a little from Rosenberg when he said Macklemore has been on the scene for a while now and only now broke through. What finally got him over the hurdle is beyond me. I just assumed he got lucky enough with 2 singles which his record label pushed.

Is he on a major label?

Cleanses not only don't work, ever, but they also often are exceptionally bad for you because the go against the on basic rule of healthy eating. Balance. As for veganism, one day when I am the cruel intolerant overlord of the world, I will have vegans dragged into the street and beaten to death with t bone steaks. And it won't be difficult since they will all be sickly and weak from their shitty vegan diet.
I worked with a stripper who was a strict vegan and she used to pass the fuck out halfway though her set every goddamn night multiple times because her diet was so lacking in everything she needed. It was kind of hilarious actually and she's lucky she was smoking hot or she would have been booted out if the club first week.

But really hyperbole and sarcasm aside, vegans just make me smh. I love veggies too, but eat some goddamn meat, it's delicious.

I love meat too, but I applaud people taking vegetarian diets. Theyre better for the environment and require less demand from sentient life. I agree that a lot of vegetarians and vegans are smug cornballs, but there is nothing wrong at all with what they are actually doing.

I eat meat only like 4 days a week now. Prolly gonna cut it down to just weekends.

Ah but see I see a huge difference between vegetarians and vegans. Not just in what they eat, but also attitudes as well. Vegans are almost always smug little fuckshits who are vegan because they lack anything else to make them standout and not just be another boring person among billions. Most vegetarians I know on the other hand have legitimate reasons for their diet that make sense.

I could never live without meat though. A nice juicy steak, some marinated pork chops, a nice fried chicken breast. Hmmmmm goddamn.

Then again who am I to judge anything. My health plan consists if doing circuit training during the work week, and then getting drunk and high as fuck on the weekends. I've lost 40 pounds and put on a ton of muscle over the last year, but I'm sure I cut my life expectancy every single weekend with the amount of terrible shit I put in my body every Friday and Saturday. Not to mention all the questionable Vietnamese street food I eat that I'm sure is flavored and preserved with shit I don't even want to know about.
Hell between all the workouts and being dehydrated as fuck from the last two nights of partying, every inch of me cramps up whenever I fucking sneeze.

But still I don't give a fuck about a vegan.

On another note, I pulled an ice cube and went home with a girl last night ive had a thing for for quite a while but had closed the book on cause i didnt think she was interested. Completely out of the blue and unexpected, but a great time.

True. Goddamn.

Vegeterians are alright, vegans are typically insufferable. From personal experience. Ex was a vegetarian and I survived pretty easily. Usually I just didn't eat meat around her, cause I chose not to, and it was easy given how many options were available.

Really? I thought the order of release was the same as I heard it.

I remember hearing Thrift Shop around this time last year or maybe even January of this year.

Then Can't Hold Us followed by Same Love.

Cant Hold Us is from August 2011. Went #1 in May 2013
Same Love is July 2012. Peaked at #2 in July if I'm understanding wiki right. But I think it charted before Can't Hold Us.
Thrift Shop is August 2012. #1 in Feb 2013.
