if you see me in a fight with a bear, don't help me fool, help the bear!
Chance suggested he'll consider signing with a major, but the deal would have to be perfect (ie no 360 shit). Ultimately he wants to remain independent as long as possible, and wouldn't mind doing it forever.

IMO he'll have to sign some sort of deal eventually, especially if he starts getting more popular and needs a bigger machine.

Depends... if he can get capital off what he is doing now
And invests that into his own PR you can do well

God, I'm so fucking tired of the idea of hip hop gatekeepers. Not just those who give the idea homage, but also those who label themselves gatekeepers. If your music is dope and you have passionate fans, you're going to make noise in this genre. That's how shit has always been, but especially now that the internet has given artists the opportunity to let fans into their everyday life/struggles. "Gatekeepers" aren't determining who to punish and who to make a star. If you have a hit song or album, chances are you're going to get props.

I've heard Questlove basically say he's a gatekeeper, and even critisize people who don't like the shit he cosigns. Remember when Suit & Tie came out and most people thought it was a meh record, but Questlove was on twitter taking shots at people for not appreciating it?

"You Suit & Tie "meh"ers remind me of that Cosby ep where Cliff took Rudy & em to a burger joint after they bitched about the upscale spot.," Quest tweeted January 13th. (Questlove's Twitter)

That elitist mentality is just stupid to me. I know many feel like Questlove, 9th Wonder, Young Guru, Timbo, and Just Blaze are members of that "gatekeeper" society but I just can't fuck with that idea.

did you watch Daylyt vs Head Ice? Dude is a genius haha. Probably my favorite out nowadays. Daylyt i mean. lmao at his new slogan too, dude wildin about that 500 bucks
Yesss, his new slogan is fantastic. He's gonna ride out the URL thing forever, makes me kinda sad though cause I would have loved to see him battle more URL rappers (but it seems like even the most loyal of them are jumping elsewhere). All the little things he does in his battles gets me hype. Like when he points to the sky, or when he puts on the ski mask; puts a smile on my face before dude even spits. He built his character well.

ICE came correct too.

Y'all praise a n***a that got ass nekkid?
Y'all past reckless. I don't feel comfortable around n***as that be ass checkin'.
And always,
If you pressed like on the "Butt Naked With A Shotgun" video? YOU ALL GAY.
And if you left a comment.. THATS FOREPLAY"

^ that shit had me dying, but Daylyt won for me

listenin to suicideyear now

I guess we can all agree on Maybach Music taking universal L's this year. Rape verse, Wale clowned on several levels, Breakfast club interview, Mastermind pushed back for Ross, Gunplay knocked out more times than Roy Jones Jr. and turned irrelevant, Meek Mill mad about control verse, hell what else?

Good call

yeah i haven't kept up as much this year but ya'll made it sound like MM really imploded/fell apart, this list sounds as good as any. i thought the rape verse was forgotten right after he apologized, and his track on your boy hov's album made single but everything else seems kinda hollow.

Yeah, ICE was good. I only put Daylyt over because he had those lines that goes over your head that makes you want to rewind to get it

"to clarify re: reports. i haven't "signed" with g.o.o.d music. still on tri angle. just signed my publishing with kanye/donda/sony"

dont understand the hype that comes with producers signing to labels, it usually doesnt mean anything.....

I don't even know what comprises a producer deal.

That said people still went crazy both when Hit-Boy joined G.O.O.D. Music and when he "left" (which is just his contract expiring after a certain number of songs or whatever).

Well, I guess this means GOOD is gonna publish his album. Basically, its good for him in terms of the resources available to him.

Early impressions:

Childish Gambino's Because The Internet
I don't get it. I really don't. This dude's delivery clashes too hard with some of these songs. I can see that being attractive to some people but it ends up feeling like I'm listening to some shit that was made for girls to recite "Look At Me Now" style. ALL of the highlights of this album are when he's not rapping, and either when he or a feature is singing. None of the songs are really offensively bad (or flat out bad), but a lot of them feel corny manufactured sorts of sappiness. Really hate the tutti frutti flow too, he reverts back to it far too often to the point that it's very noticeable and I start questioning his versatility.

Telegraph Ave sounds like a Drake song 100%. That and 3005 are the only songs I can see myself coming back to. The rest of the songs range from forgettable to okay.

Tinashe's Black Water
It's okay, not really exceptional. The production really holds her back IMO. Most of it is either generic or the songs just feel like they're following a formula. A lot of these songs remind me of other R&B songs or some downtempo hip-hop songs. That said, I fuck with Vulnerable, Fugitive (wish I could put my finger on the song this sounds like) and Secret Weapon. Kinda similar to Gambino's project, just feels like some crucial novel or personality is missing. It's tough as a female singer coming up I guess, but she hasn't really veered left enough for me to be like "okay this is a thing."

Now onto The Abstract & The Dragon.

Pretty sure Telegraph Ave is intentionally "radio hit" like. I agree his rapping isn't that great though. I think he raps pretty well on Sweatpants, and he's compotent on most other things. He at least comes with some energy on a lot of tracks.

Speaking of G.O.O.D, new Kid Cudi called satellite flight.

On phone can't really link, but it sounds exactly like what he's been doing his whole career.

The Abstract And The Dragon is so good.

Both of these guys have had such great chemistry over the course of their careers. Not an obvious chemistry but it works so well. I was kinda dreading listening to it after looking at the tracklist but I've been vibing to it for over an hour now. Great soft boom bap shit.

EDIT: And it flowed right into 93 Til Infinity next on my playlist too.

Oh Drake went at Kendrick on the Sh!t remix.. Haven't listened yet but hope Kendrick don't have to bring out the ether.

Pretty forgettable "I'm richer than you" tripe from Drake, as per usual. Personally I don't think Kendrick should respond.

Dunno why TDE staff are reacting on twitter, fuck that. They wasted 2013, and if not for Control no one would be talking about them.
