TDE and MMG are wayyyy different. One tried being the biggest label in rap and failed, the other drops music for a fan base that'll probably be around for a bit.

Not a comparable situation. Not defending nothing dropping in 2013, but they put out dope music, all that matters.

Its not over, but they had the hottest year in 2012, and then they follow it up with... a fucking K dot verse?

They need to think bigger. If it were MMG, they'd have a collabo album out or something, and q would have dropped something.
What did they do in 2012 that compares to the successes and growth Kendrick achieved in 2013?

Section.80? An album every radio interviewer and shit doesn't know exists? Or his less popular labelmates' releases that they also don't know exist? GKMC only really resonated into 2013 too beyond the initial scramble.

In 2012 they performed at their capacity for setting the artist's creative foundations. 2013 was the power move and Kendrick led it. Yeah, Q should have dropped, but imagine he dropped and then Control came out. He would've fucked up himself. Oxymoron still should've made it in 2013 to capitalize off of the hype, agreed, but it's not so far out that people are going to forget.

Yeah TDE and MMG are not comparable at all. Unless we want to forget the years when MMG didn't do shit and Triple Cs went nowhere.

if they were MMG the ship would definitely be sinking.

I agree to some extent, but MMG is pretty smart about keeping their artists out there/making moves. Whether the artists are capable of sustaining that volume on a talent level, thats a different question.

The crews need to get involved. Weeknd needs to make songs about fucking their girls.

I bet they both got songs ready to go and are just waiting to see how it pans out. I don't think Drake will go first and Kendrick will probably drop it in the run up to his second album it'll probably be the street single.

I kiiinda feel you, but mannnnn. HcC was my fucking album of the year, and they've killed all of my hype for Oxy.

Ab Soul got negative buzz, Q forever delaying his album. Kendrick did alright with control, but thats about it. I think the biggest push they got was Jay Rock being in the gta v trailer. Sorry if that doesnt seem all too impressive considering their talent.

They need to do more weeks when they have 1 release for every artist every other day. They did it once and then never again. Could have developed brand strength the way G.O.O.D. Fridays pretty much took over hip-hop for a stretch of time. It's a bit of a shame considering we had the clique thing going in hip-hop for a while which fizzled and TDE didn't really capitalize on.

Don't care if they're album cuts either, just give the fans something. Prelude EPs could have worked too, but IMO at this point I think it's important they're careful how they're going to introduce each MC to the world. Q has been sort of good in some respects and bad in others, but I think Ab-Soul and Jay Rock need most of the work. Nobody really remembers Jay Rock from the last time he tried to bubble up so it's not so bad for him either.

man, get hyped for Oxy, there really is no reason not to be. For as much shit as everyone likes to give Q for being flabby/lazy this year, dude still puts out music that is more fuckwitable than other above-average rappers in the game today.

Oxy will be sick, it'll be a good start to the year and no one will remember 2013.

You just hit on my main frustration- its not that I think they totally fucked up. They just dropped the ball relative to their talent ceiling.

I am the goat and a b c d e f g... rappers need to catch up is going cause beef if you agree with the spin or not...

Oh, he knew it would cause beef, everyone knew it after hearing it. Doesnt mean the intent was there, it was just the inevitable outcome when putting names in your track. Rappers seem to have the insecurity issues of 13 year old girls.

Fuck that

Calling rappers out by name is beef

Trying to spin like K-dot did is botch-made

lmao

so if I was a DJ and named a bunch of dope DJs including yourself, then said "I got love for you all but I'm trying to murder you every time I hit the booth. Trying to take your fans breh" you'd take that as a diss?

How can you argue TDE didn't take Ls this year? They followed up a huge 2012 with...pretty much nothing. Jack Rock had a huge verse last year, you would think that he would release a mixtape this year. That alone would have taken some of the pressure off Q.

They signed SZA yet she didn't release anything, outside of a couple (meh) tracks. And they signed another guy with a nappy beard who won't do anything on the mainstream level. Eh...

Jay Rock's verse wasn't so big that dude needed to execute this year or fail. And no way he would come out before Q. Dude needs the most songwriting help out of the entire camp before he can release a major label debut.

I think the expectation that they should sign an artist and turn around an album in a few months is pretty ridiculous. People criticize labels for not doing enough artist development nowadays, a label tries to let shit cook until it's ripe to deliver to the masses and people come at them for not making moves fast enough.

They did fuck up by halting pretty much anything coming out outside of Q and Kendrick, but the only real L is Oxymoron in 2014 instead of late 2013.

I don't think they've regressed, only maybe Ab-Soul because of some of his idiotic Christopher Dorner comments. Otherwise Jay Rock and Q are both in better places and most importantly, Kendrick has more power he can leverage to help dudes post-Control. I hate to use Control so often as landmark, but it really is. It was a thing and Kendrick's name is in everybody and their fans' mouth after it.

The dude they signed has a mixtape slated for Dec. They dropped the ball, because none of us knew it was even coming.

Most people on GAF I think, including myself, don't really fuck with dude enough or want to follow him as an artist, but I've definitely noticed the recent media blitz for the past few weeks.

EDIT: And actually, looking at TDE's YT page, seems like they've put out a few songs for both SZA and Isaiah Rashad, as well as video features in the past few months.

EDIT2: Yeah, searching some more, in light of this I'm just gonna have to conclude it's more that people don't mess with them as artists than TDE not giving them a magical lay up.

What is there to get? If you know beef will start and you do it... then how do you not have intent?

It isnt black and white like that. He knew it could start beefs if people caught feelings from taking it the wrong way. But he didnt care. Its like the difference between first and second degree murder.

Then the intent is clearly there...

There really isn't a wrong to take it when you are calling rappers by name...

Again his spin job on it was classic...

I don't think he has gotten features since then...

The intent is to make a statement about him being the best. He knows saying that could cause damage. The resulting beef isnt the intent. Unless you are saying he clearly had intent to start a beef with drake. Then you would be just guessing.

Even alluding to being superior to someone else, could cause a rift. That's basically what he did, regardless of how "neat" he tried to frame it. It doesn't help that he was acting superior when people questioned him. *shrugs*

Pretty much every rapper says "im the goat" at some point. It is the same thing. People just heard names this time and freaked.

A) I'm the goat poster.

B) I'm the goat poster, and ________(insert names here) need to step it the fuck up.

You say a joke and people laugh. You say a joke and name a person, then it's not surprising when someone takes it as an insult. All I'm saying.

I think those not named should feel way more insulted, honestly,

But saying it doesn't make it true...

Anyways we will see how much love he gets...

The real truth is Fucking Problems alone sold more than anything he has done so far...

So calling out his peers might not have been the sharpest thing he has done

Goes deeper than that... because it might directly affect a person's earnings...

Good fucks with him
And Em is a label mate
That's one of the bigger labels. Good point about Em.

I think he probably shouldn't have done it, but he's one of the biggest names in rap now. He won't be as big as Drake, but if he remains successful and continues to drop albums as hailed as his last two? That'll get under Drakes skin, just like GKMC/Control hype did.

I can't believe people care so much about a label. So much so that they already want to ahead of everyone by claiming they will fail only to be "right" and tell people "i told you so" at some point in the future.

Kendrick is just taking off but we got people claiming his next project will fail.
TDE is just becoming "known" on a mainstream label and yet its all over and Ls.

I don't even get why we should care how they do as a label. Its pretty much been the same with all similar situations. One guy blows up, has a crew, creates his own label imprint, but he ends up being the only one who truly blows up.

Good fucks with him
And Em is a label mate

Exactly.

Don't forget Dre.

I mean, it wont be a permanent thing. Him and drake will make up, release a hit single, and everyone will move on and hip hop will be boring again.

I'd kill for this but I always remember that Q interview where he said it'll never happen because that be "corny" or some shit. I don't understand that mentality. I'd even be interested in that album with Q, Danny and Rocky. I knew that idea was DOA the moment it was mentioned though.

I wish there were more people in hip hop doing group albums in general I guess.

Actually wrote Dre and deleted it because a lot people think he had little influence on K-Drizzle's success

Dre doesn't like unnecessary beef
