Rappers should explore shit like this. Lord knows other genres do all the time. I'm moreso disappointed by the shitty lyrics and similes.

the subject matter is fine, it's the execution.

rap about the tip of your dad's penis, brehs.

Nitty Scott does this better throughout Art of Chill. My issue with Game is that he makes the song about his dad and the act itself rather than what it all means for his sister, the rape survivor.

Gone Girl

Still I Rise ft. Stacy Barthe

Scott focuses more on how she learned to cope and what being raped by her step-father did to her relationship with her mom. She does this all without providing any gratuitous depictions of what he did to her, but I wouldn't fault her if she did decide to include more detailed descriptions. I'm sure there's a place for that kind of thing, but I get the sense that she wants us to know that while what happened made a big impact on her life, it isn't going to define her. There's anger and it's not something she'll ever forget about but she's moved on.

That tape also has a track about mental illness which is another topic that doesn't come up much in rap.

rappers been talking about mental illness since Insane in the Membrane.

I think mental upsandowns are decently well covered. Rappers spend a lot of time talking about their 'mindstate' and always have. The rape thing though.... yeesh. I remember that Angel Haze(?) track. Brutal.

Yeah those songs are great really illustrate what she went through and how it affected her.

There's plenty of rap about stress and depression, but her comments about going to therapy receiving a diagnosis are what made it stand out to me. Or maybe there's a lot of that out there already and I just never noticed.

That's.... Really specific lol. Jay's verse here kinda fills that category, but I'd attribute that to the plain, clean fact that people of color don't put as much stock in clinical psychology/psychiatry as white people. Attitudes toward mental health in most ethnic communities can be fairly dismissal, even though I do think it's getting better.

I think PD mentioned that he performs the same set he's performed for fucking ever.

I wonder if he'll do the same chit again at the BET awards.

People think I'm joking but it's the same shit. He stops Exhibit A before the last verse to spit it acapella ("I believe they knocked them levies down"), and it kills the energy of the concert every fucking time. Then he tells the crowd his DJ is a Dilla acolyte, asks the crowd to get as loud as they can for as long as they can, then does Gobstopper. He'll also have his DJ cut the music during other songs like Exhibit C.

Trailer park boys is one of those shows you watch when your smoking or just wanna turn your brain off and laugh at some light hearted silly shit

Season 7 is an abomination. Avoid it.

Season 8 (New Netflix season) returns to form in ways. Corey is back, but trevors not. Good season. I'll be checking out season 9 when it drops. They've filmed it already.

Fucking smokes boys let's go!

Esch, courage and my football brehs, I hope you watched us take on the world champions and come out with 1-1

speaking of being in character/improv/kayfabe is anyone gonna bother to watch The League this season? Feel like it's sorta become increasingly flanderized in these last few seasons and I'm not sure I wanna watch these douchebags shit on Andre again for a few months.

It's still funny. All these comedies get flanderized. I'm just grateful its not to the extent of parks and rec

They really screwed up by axing teflandre though. He should have been the man the whole season. Dumb writers only gave him like two episodes to shine

It's never going to get any better but it's reliable I think. Episodes are always going to be structured the same way and rely on the characters acting out their same flaws. I think the ways plots can dovetail or the readymade catchphrases (like teflandre or some of the stuff in a recent ep about thin pants) can be enough, though it'd be cooler if it were like IASIP and got darker and weirder with each season instead of plateauing at "good" and staying there

forsure, I was surprised when that arc was dropped so soon.

The production on that Tyga track is dope. Even dig the chorus, just wish someone else rapped on it, at least a feature.

I'll wait for the freestyles to come.

Jay Rock track sounds like a reject track from The Documentary w/ less name drops. not a fan. he gotta do better than this.

Tyga track is fire. I don't get why my dude Yeezy associates w/ him though

P4K is out their mind giving that Vince Staples EP anything more than a 7.
