i posted about it a little in this OT or the last one but i really, really enjoyed it. The combat system is great, nice and tough and incorporates some nice environmental elements. The quest writing is genuinely great too, tons of funny and :whew: moments, and it looks great. My only gripe with it is that some of the crafting and other interfaces are bad eurojank, but thats seriously it. Probably the most enjoyable RPG i've played since Skyrim and The Witcher II.

I saw bino and badu last night it was fucking great

Berkeley show?

I was tempted to hit that since some of the homies were heading out, but I ain't tryna pay any money for Gambino and hearing Badu DJ is a traumatic experience worthy of no money--which I hear she did there too.

I had to suffer through that shit when I went to see Bonobo. Im good

Dope.

Looking forward to that. Gonna run it after I finish The Evil Within.

Gotta schedule this fall gaming out

Yeah, heard the show was good. Still, Gambino ain't in my money paying bracket. Not yet.

Flatbush and the Underachievers are, though. And, fuck, I don't even know why. I can't say I really fuck with any of their shit all that much, but those cats just look like the shows they put on are fucking LIVE. That's my next show I'm catching. They're playing in OAK

Gave the new Rapsody EP a try after that 9th Wonder/Combat Jack ep. Easily her best project by a mile.

1) DMC3:SE
2) Ninja Gaiden Black
3) Shinobi PS2
4) lol who cares
5) this genre died a little less than a decade ago

How could I forget Ninja Gaiden, but Bayonetta is awesome. Where is the dislike coming from? Combat system is great and dodge offset is a fantastic mechanic for action games, plus there are a shit load of unlockables and content.

It's okay I guess. I could never really get into it because of the Hentai fuel factor. Special moves had me like

i think some heads played bayo 1 wrong, i know i did at first

surprised to see Shinobi PS2 @ esh's list though, that one was cool & i wanted to love it more but fuck that level design tho

paid a dollar at gamestop when they were dumping PS2 games for Nightshade & got what i paid for

Honestly, I don't like Ninja Gaiden Black nowhere near as other people. Ninja Gaiden 2 definitely is more imbalanced but gameplay mechanic wise and overall feeling is so superior it's not even funny, plus it gets rid of the boring aspects of the first Ninja Gaiden level design that weren't even all that compelling in the first place. So yeah, I'd put up with the BS of Ninja Gaiden 2 all day.

Shinobi deserves eternal dap from me just for being the only game to make me legit angry. On the action game cheap hard bullshit vs. satisfaction scale it was waaay loaded towards BS but there's something about it that had me keep plugging in hours. This shit dropped right after DMC1 but DMC1 despite being a great game still had some of that slower, resident evil prototype DNA in it. Shinobi was just a blindingly fast, eyeshittingly hard game with a dope soundtrack and I love it. I couldn't enjoy NG2 like that; by the time I played it i'd lost patience for bullshit offscreen attacks.

I also unconditionally love God of War 2 for the spectacle, production values and fuckery. But purists won't give it dap.

Breh simply purge yourself from your disgusting hentai watching habits and you'll probably enjoy it more.

i'll jaggit to the occasional h but im mostly an amateur man. you must have me confused with spindashing. i certainly don't want that shit in my games tho,...

God of War 2 and 3 are both masterpieces tbh. Especially 2, has some of the best pacing in a videogame; feels like an adventure through and through. Never played Shinobi :/

...let's not get crazy now

Only reason why I didn't put it was because it didn't pop up in my head as fitting in with the rest tbh, but if i had to I would put it above bayo

i get you, but i still consider them 3D beat-em-ups i guess, same genre for me

Yall forgot god of war. i like devil may cry a lot.

i'm not one of the purists but just never cared for GOW...boring character stuff, bland level design, and the platforming is bad/off-putting for me, just couldn't fuck with but i've tried all the mainline ones

Rising is pretty amazing too. Wonderful 101 is also dope.

Rising was over-the-top crazy & enjoyable, W101 i really need to get back into

God of War is decent but too simple for my tastes, even on higher difficulties.

God of War is ass because of the fucking QTE's. The combat of Ninja Gaiden OG is so streamlined and balanced, and I hate NG2 for the same reasons and Esch...And trust me I'm quite good at both games, but the enemy design and even level design of NG2 took a giant step back.

Otogi series is underrated imo.

Ninja Gaiden Black is tops for me.

NG2 was a bit faster and more fluid, but it was so imba and full of bullshit that I couldn't stand it. NG Black got fast as fuck the higher the difficulty you got, so you went up in difficulty until you couldn't hang anymore. Halfway through Very Hard is where I stopped grinding through checkpoints.

Honestly I played God of War 2 maybe 2-3 years after it came out and that shit still amazed me. It's so perfectly paced and well design that even though the combat is nowhere near filled with depth that other games in the genre has that shit is still entertaining as fuck

Pretty much. It never gets to the point where you feel the relatively shallow combat system (compared to other character action games; kinda unfair to compare, since it's inherently slower and less skill based) detracts from the experience, since it either throws you a new power/weapon to play with, or breaks it up with puzzles and platforming in some jawdropping environments (at the time at least).

Oh and I replayed Onimusha recently and I enjoyed it a lot, it was like 5 hours long though and people payed 60 for that shit. I want to actually play the other ones in the series as I adored the first.

TBH i also enjoyed Darksiders which is a simple series in terms of skill/player talent demand but the breadth of mechanics it throws you WRT to customization, puzzle solving, exploration, etc make it an overall appealing package. It's the Ratchet and Clank of the genre.

Do it. Both are better than the first.

Can't stand character action games most of the time. Ninja Gaiden and MGR are exceptions because I feel like I'm fighting AI instead of enemies with damage, invincibility and vitality cranked to 11.

Tried DMC4 and just couldn't get into it. DmC was prettier, but eh.

I would love to get into God of War, mostly because of the setting though. Sucker for mythological stuff, really hope the series gets a PS4 remaster.

First game was great, second fucked up the good story they had going and included some filler puzzles/boss fights. Also fuck hack and slash games including half-assed RPG/loot mechanics.

I didn't mind it (Darksiders 2). It's like Borderlands. It's not a very focused experience, but there's a lot to do and the other stuff added in give it lots of breaks in the pacing etc. It makes it possible for action games to be longer, even if there is a sense of filler/artifice to it.

there's a definite sense of jack of all trades master of none there, but sometimes I want to get the sampler platter instead of just one appetizer.

no doubt, 100% agree. also from purely a visual standpoint the game was kinda wack looking, graphics weren't impressive and the artstyle looked even more cobbled together and stupid than the first one. I realize this is a genre that relies on wacky keerrrazzy aesthetics but man some of the shit in NG2 (and DMC4 to an extent) just didn't really look visually appealing and badass, just kinda dumb. It felt like it had kinda missed the right sweet spot of stupid and awesome.

as a big zelda fan i dug the shit out of darksiders one (was a joe mad fan from comics) but i hear 2 is a pretty different kinda game, always meant to play it

I also don't know if it counts, but in those #4 and #5 spots i'd have Onimusha 2 and 3 in there. I'm so disappointed it never got a revival. Put out a shitty fourth game and kill your series, brehs.

Oh my Onimusha is that piff, forgot about that. I also heard really good things about Godhand, but I never got to play it.

Oh and I replayed Onimusha recently and I enjoyed it a lot, it was like 5 hours long though and people payed 60 for that shit. I want to actually play the other ones in the series as I adored the first.

damn, can't believe i forgot Onimusha...i beat the shit out of 1 & 2, even went through the trial chamber/whatever things in both! never did tie up 3 though, it's been on my list for a minute. was 4 really that bad?

It was really bland. Darksiders 2 did what Onimusha 4 tried to do but better. They just tried to expand the loot/inventory system of the game beyond what it could handle and as a result kinda weakened the feeling of getting good weapons. The series was probably grappling with how to compete with games like DMC and NG and they overextended themselves a little bit. Plus the story felt pointless as well.

Ninja Gaiden Black and DMC3 are the goats

For last gen Id probably put metal gear rising at the top. The soundtrack is damn good too, pumps you up during the boss battles

More games need to time their songs to certain cues during specific points in a fight. Makes the game more epic

DMC4 was really fun too. I enjoy God of war series but I think it's clear Japan has a monopoly on the really good ones here

p. sure I got stuck on a puzzle room in the first dungeon of DS2 and decided that exerting any kind of mental stress in order to enjoy a game that looked like Andy Warhol's vomit was, ultimately, not worth it

Finally got around to listening to the Vince Staples EP. Very good but man....on one hand I want to say Def Jam fucked up, on the other hand it's understandable given the climate of the industry. If Vince had just released this as an album including the better tracks on Shyne Coldchain Vol 2 (Nate, Turn, Progressive3, Trunk Rattle) it would be an easy AOTY candidate. The EP is already getting praise, add those songs and it would be a wrap.

I assume Def Jam made him release the EP to make up for the LP being delayed. But I don't see how he can come back with something harder than this.

BTW I called this months ago: No I.D. is the equivalent of a good college coach. He has Vince focused and releasing some amazing music right now. I remember Nas saying that No I.D. would spend hours in the studio just talking about shit - be it life, concepts for songs, whatever. You can definitely tell he is in Vince's ear.

I used to beat my ps2 controller over my knee playing Shinobi. Just straight up self-harm over this fucking game brehs. Hardest game I've ever played with XEXYZ being a close second.

Whenever I catch people saying some shit like "Bayonetta is hard especially on infinite climax" or "God of War is pretty challenging" I have a really good private laugh because the y can't even fathom the suffering that Shinobi inflicts on you at normal.

Literally everything is pitted against you in Shinobi. The enemies, the level, your own fucking sword, a ranking system to shit on you when you barely pass the level, entire levels without floors and brutal checkpoint system. Your only friend was that combo kill TATE system. You lived for that tate, you needed it. Like a cruel lover in the middle of winter. Bitch but the only warmth in your life for the next few months.

We have a whole generation of gamers now that probably couldn't even beat the boss in the Ninja Gaiden xbox demo.
