When I got into Jay Z I was far removed from online discussion of him so I went into his catalog fairly blind and American Gangster came out as my number two Jay project.
Maybe what you're saying is the case, but I think it's just a good album.

Family Video still runs strong in my area, somehow.

I spent almost the entire years from 2005 to 2011 listening to Max B, and I truly believe he created some of the greatest hip-hop ever. You've heard me say it before but I believe his music to be amongst the greatest hip-hop ever created.

Got a question for Gaf-Hop. What misconception about Rap music bother you the most?
Besides Eminem being considered one of the best rappers of all time
Max B had some crazy good hooks and a cool style but I've never been super impressed by any of his full length releases nor do I or would I ever consider him to be an all time great or even particularly noteworthy in any era. The people that stole the wave mostly did so with greater success. I like French Montana more than I ever liked Max B.

Yeah, backpackers are obnoxious as hell. And many of my favorite rappers attract tons of backpack fans (Aesop Rock, Eyedea).
