Sorian's livejournal, you mean.

This is all it is. I promise you all that it is extremely boring especially since I was reacting to things in real time with very little quote stuff so sometimes it can be hard to see what I was talking about. I did crack jokes on Ouro once or twice though.

This is why I want to see it.

FOR EVIDENCE

You're number 1 in my heart.

Go away, I'm in the Angst phase of my character development where I half-heartedly phone in or avoid all enemy encounters because I'm depressed at how inadequate and ineffective my skills are and therefore shun and turn away from all my friends and allies because I can't cope with how nobody understands me

One day I realized that sadness is just another word for not enough coffee.
I like Mafia and all but I'm not any good at it.

I'm better at ONUW, I think. Because it's just logic and accounting, and if there's one thing corgis are good at, it's spreadsheets.

My spreadsheet looks like it's on fire during the middle part of that game.

When he randomized the roles, he had Karkador do it so he's right there along with us, trying to hunt down his scum.

That is dedication.

When was the last time you liked anything, Karkador?

Please don't become a Shounen anime protagonist.

No but really, it just seems like a very busted role. Maybe it gets better once the meta has acclimated to it, but then it looks like every game is the people vs. the village idiot.

But I did like the Mystic Wolf. Blending in with the Seer is fun, and the potential shenanigans seem interesting.

In seriousness, I agree with this. It's just too much power concentrated in a single player.

Every player can implicate 1 or 2 others with a lie. More if they pretend to be a werewolf.

But only the VI can simultaneously implicate everyone. You can play as Village, or Werewolf, and then have that foundation ripped out from under you on a single player's whim.

I can only confirm that they will get characters killed by jumping into your lap while playing Until Dawn.

Maybe I'm mistaken but doesn't ONUW come down to who correctly guesses the center cards?

If you're Wolf, and you claim, and then you get counterclaimed, you open yourself up to a coinflip basically. But if you guessed correctly, then you can ride it to victory.

I actually agree that I don't like the Village Idiot. I went forward with it, but when I looked at the spreadsheet, I thought, "How the hell is anyone going to figure this out?"

I think it's one of those roles that works way better in a real life game.

That's why tanners and minion roles are important, it gives you an out even if you get unlucky with your claim.

I responded to this in the spectator thread just now (didn't want to say something that would affect voting)

TL;DR: I think VI works fine if it is put in as intended (VI doesn't have an effect on their own card)

That still comes down to everyone vs VI though, and his position is even more secure.

That sounds even worse, because the user doesn't have to worry about altering their own alignment

Claim Village
Everyone gives reads and whatnot
Game plays out.
10 minutes left on the clock: "Oh JK guys, I rotated, so vote for this guy instead"

Singlehandedly swept the game.

In regular Mafia, you pull a stunt like this and you get policy lynched on the spot, then the game just keeps on going. But ONUW, you are forced to recognize the possibility of a rotation, throwing everything out of whack. You can do this as Werewolf as well as a final "fuck you" to create chaos.

Right but the user will now be completely at the whim of a possible troublemaker, robber, alpha wolf, witch, etc. It "weakens" their position because they are at the mercy of any claim that they were switched whether truth or lie. If they get shuffled with everyone else then whatever, they don't need to be worried about being swapped because they are looking at their next door neighbors and once they figure them out, they have all the power to just lie and say "oh, j/k I actually flipped it the other way"

Yeah, he will just out himself, ex Wolfs will out each other, follow one of the wolf cards= town wins almost always. It gives town an incredible advantage in a game that is already slightly in favor of town.

That's just one Wolf though. The others also need to cover their asses. Tanner and Minion are also red herrings when they're in play. The drunk often has to hedge their bets as well. It does usually get narrowed down to a small pool of targets though. It's just the nature of the game. When we play it in person, we usually play 5-6 games in a row, so bad luck in one game gets balanced out.

So... why doesn't a Wolf, or someone who thinks they're a wolf, also claim VI? Unless you have another way to have verified the actual VI, you're back to a 50/50.

Edit: Sorian pointed out other things as well. Just because you started VI doesn't mean you ended VI. The wolves just have to play a different game depending on what roles are in the game.

Also, just from the opinion of whether or not it was fun, I don't think deducing "someone fucked everything up" is as much fun as the other, more measured role effects and their interactions

At the end of the day, my opinion is VI should stay in the rotation. Add some more roles next time around and as we get more roles involved and in the RNG from the start, sometimes we will see VI, sometimes we won't. You get a VI and a Sentinel in the same game? Suddenly things get a lot more interesting. I'll parrot Palmer here when I say that ONUW isn't meant to be balanced all the time. I'm all for getting a little bit of balance in because we aren't rapid firing these games but we've still been doing one a week. Someone's bad luck this week is awesome luck next week.

I think a big part of our current balancing problems is that a lot of us are inexperienced with this game, and inexperience will be much more problematic for a wolf team member that needs to lie and plan than for a town member. When people play more rounds of ONUW, that problem should eventually diminish.
