sorry for asking this question so late, i have been really busy. I plan on mailing mine today, what are the best ways to send these?

Oh, are we allowed to say who we're sending it to? I thought it was meant to be a surprise or something. I was about to send them and realized I didn't write who it was from, so I just wrote a quick note on the inside. Then I realized I had written who it was from on the packaging after all.

Just sent mine out. I just put each cd in one of those envelopes that are lined on the inside with bubble wrap. They have them at the post office. To ship all three of mine it was under $10 (and one was to Canada).

Ok, getting ready to mail my mix out!

Your mix was waiting for me in the mail when I got home and I'm listening to it while getting dinner ready. I'll post impressions after I've had some time to listen to it, but I'm digging it so far. Thanks!

Damn, didn't get any of mine before leaving.

Hopefully, I can con a friend to mail them to me. If not, I guess I have a bunch of music to look forward to when I get back to the States in March.

Fnord, glad you're digging it so far. Can't wait to hear your thoughts after hearing the whole thing. :D

I just made my first CD. Making the other two now. I think I'm putting far too much effort into this, especially since I bet the three people receiving mine won't like the music on it. Heh.

Anyone who wants a CD of Pop music (indie to Top 40) let me know. I'll mail you a physical CD. Say Anything, Lady GaGa, Janet Jackson, Mute Math, Just Jack, and more.

Haven't received anything in the mail, yet, but I don't mind... Haven't even sent out my mixes yet, haha. I'll be sending mine out on Tuesday, so you three (do we reveal ahead of time? I don't want to) will probably get them on Friday or Saturday.

Hope you guys like to dance!

Received my mix from Jedeye Sniv. Had one listen, so gonna give it a couple more before writing a little about it. First impressions are great though! Couple bands I'll definitely be looking into.

Also, loved the home made sleeve!

I said i was going to make and post a mix, and went to it with much vigor and enthusiasm. But after hearing some of the expert mixes from you fine people i became sad and intimidated and cast my mix aside.

...But after listening to my Mix and deciding I like it, I've decided to post it anyways. Please be gentle Gaf.

Magnificent You(What Else Are You Like?):
A mix of Alternative, folk, rock, pop that is best enjoyed through decent headphones on a bus ride to University(the length of the mix is approximately how long it takes for me to get to school).

Cool man, I hope you enjoy it! It's probably my favourite mix I've ever made, I listen to it more than some real albums I own, the transitions fill me with proud glee :D

So I think two of you have definitely got yours now, Subliminal, have you got yours yet? I've still not received any yet, I check the doormat like an excitable child whenever I get home! No worries though, still enjoying the digital mixes from everyone else now, I'll do mini-writeups for them soon and save the real waxing lyrical for my real assignments. charmicarmicat, I'll send you a PM with my addy in a sec.

Also, mustardman, I love your cover, looks awesome! In these days of slick-assed photoshop work, I love it when people get busy with some pens and paper!

Nice one! The idea wasn't to be 'heavy' per se, more just 'rocking', which I think everyone can enjoy to some degree. I think I'm going to enjoy yours too; I've heard lots of those bands mentioned in relation to other folk-y artists I like (and the Decemberists' cover of Bridges and Balloons is sublime). I'll open my front door with bated breath when I get in to see if anything is on the doormat.

Also, seeing as the majority of the mixes are for this current style of low-key indie, mix-tapers may enjoy the podcast known as Like Hearts Swelling. It's not on so much these days, but the 20 odd shows that Carl Cullinane produced are a brilliant mix of new and classic indie music. Exposed me to so many great bands, the podcast feed is like a list of a bunch of first-rate mixtapes. Also includes some genuinely funny comedy bits too.

Just got your mix this evening elseanio, loading it onto my ipod for a listen tomorrow. Looks like I'm gonna like it though, love lots of the artists on here already (Devendra Banheart, Joanna Newsom, Fleet Foxes). If all the tracks are riffing from the same place I'm going to love it!

sent mine out today... I am so sorry to those who are receiving my mixes, as the only color printer I have access to was low on ink and so the image quality is terrible.

edit: I sent three people mixes, and each was a different mix, and I have no idea who got what, so please describe your cover - or better yet, review your music! - when you get it.

Listening to his now, also. Didn't know what to expect from them opening tracks! Enjoyed it so far though. Will give more impressions after a couple more listens.

Both mixes I've received are far superior to my own :lol Hope I catch the next exchange to give it another go

_Issac, I got your CD in the mail about 2 days ago but I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet. About 75% of my music listening is done in my car and I only have a cassette deck/iPod in there so I won't be able to give it a proper listen until tomorrow.

I also listen to your music in the car. I seem to have misplaced the tracklist, so right now I am really digging a bit of track 1, track 2, and the last three tracks especially. (I find myself listening from the outside in).

Okay, I've given TehOh's mix a couple of listens and am ready to throw out a few thoughts.

01 - "Home for a Rest" by Wild Colonial Bhoys - A great kickoff and my favorite song on the mix. Upbeat Celtic rock about (what else?) an extended bender, I was reminded of Boiled in Lead and The Pogues, which are both good things in my book.

02 - "Wherefore Art Thou, Elvis?" by Gaslight Anthem - Meanwhile, this song has a great title and alternates between brooding (with the bass chugging along nicely in the background) and rocking. I liked it, particularly the more low-key bits.

03 - "Ole Black 'N Blue Eyes" by The Fratellis - Another great title and a fun, sing-songy, swaggering sort of number with a touch of retro. I dug the song enough to look up which album it was on, which lead me to appreciate the album art as well. My runner up for favorite song on the mix.

04 - "Mistaken For Strangers" by The National - Things get a bit darker here, with a driving sound and a singer with a great voice.

05 - "On Tour With Zykos" by Okkervil River - A melancholy number that strongly reminded me of some of Stephin Merritt's more cabaret-esque songs. I particularly liked it when the horn would pop in.

06 - "Olympia, WA" by Rancid - After two slower number, Rancid decides it's time to stop being moody and kick things back into gear. Catchy!

07 - "Fool" by Neutral Milk Hotel - The interlude track. Man, I love Neutral Milk Hotel.

08 - "Jeff Davis Country Blues" by The Mountain Goats - Kicking off the second half, labeled "The Stranger Goes Home", this is a fuzzy, low-fi number about life on the road that didn't quite grab me.

09 - "Tanqueray Train" by Have Gun, Will Travel - This song starts off with the line "On a bullet train on the way from Tokyo". Having been there I like the sentiment, though I'm not as into the twangy sound used here. Good band name, though.

10 - "Within A Mile Of Home" by Flogging Molly - And it's back to Celtic and punky! Woo! This is more like it.

11 - "The Navesink Banks" by Gaslight Anthem - Things slow back down here. I didn't like this as much as the other Gaslight Anthem track on the mix, but there were some great lines in the lyrics and a evocative Western ballad sound.

12 - "Sing! Captain" by Handsome Furs - I'm a bit torn on this song, as I liked the electronic sound of it all (particularly the shimmering opening bit and the stuttering breakdown later in the song), but I didn't get into the singing.

13 - "People as Places as People" by Modest Mouse - Alas, for the finale I had the same reaction; I've heard it a few times now but I just keep bouncing off the singing. Ah well.

And there you have it. I was into the first half more than the second, but overall I liked the mix and I was exposed to some tunes that I wouldn't have listened to and enjoyed otherwise. Thanks, TehOh!

I'm still waiting for the other two mixes to arrive, but hopefully they'll show up before long. Meanwhile, I hope my own mix recipients got the CD I sent out and have had some time to listen to it. I'll probably go ahead and post a digital copy of the mix in the next day or so.

Thanks for posting your impressions! I loved hearing what you thought of each song. :D Glad you liked it overall.

Oh - and I do recommend listening to more of Wild Colonial Bhoys. Check out their live stuff, the studio albums don't quite capture the same energy. As for The Fratellis, their first album (Costello Music, the one that Ole' Black and Blue Eyes is on) is much better than their second IMO. Some great, catchy retro-pop.

Gifts totally make up for being late.

FnordChan, hoping he's getting a mix from swoon, and not because of the gift angle

p.s. Hey, did you get the mix I sent you? No pressure to comment on it, I just wanted to make sure my packages didn't go out into the void.

so no comments yet. but soon!

Looking forward to 'em!
