Dude yes, this is a great idea, count me in. I looooooove making mixes! I don't mind physical if needs be, it means I can use the DRMed stuff on my iTunes too so that's all good. Will we post our tracklists as we make them, or just send random discs to random Gaffers?

The fact that anyone supports Hillary boggles my mind... I have tested between 130-160 on IQ tests
Hmm, if this was a digital exchange as well, I'd be down.

I'm having a ton of fun with this. :D

I started putting together a mix last night, and the first song that I put on it sort of inspired a theme. It's sort of turning into a story told through music.

Genres all over the place (folk, punk, blues-rock, shoegaze), but I'm trying to structure it so it all flows together.
I don't want to tell you who to match me with, but I really would like to hear this :D

I'm in for a physical mix. Are we setting a deadline, though? I move to South Korea in Mid-February, and I'd like to get my mixes before then! :D

Mine will be a general indie-rock mix, and I'll take anything, though I wouldn't mind something similar.

Found today that my laptop won't even read CD-Rs anymore, so I'm definitely out of the running for a physical exchange.

I'm up for either digital or physical. You can match me up with whomever. I suggest keeping the original post updated with instructions and those participating members.

I would be up for both, but digital is definitely easier. Also with digital you can just request any/all mixes, or just from the genres you like. Either way, count me in.

Pllleeeease if you guys can swing doing a physical copy, DO IT! I understand if you can't, but there is value in a) Limiting yourself to 80 minutes. b)Taking the time to put together a package. c) sending/receiving something in the mail.

Would it be annoying to include foreign language songs? Should I keep it to English songs? Is there a due date?

I don't think so, I'm including a spanish song.

Why don't we do a first round of physical exchanges, and then when that is finished (everyone who signed up gets a mix) everyone upload the mixes digitally, and those who can't do the physical mix can exchange files alongside those from the beginning?

Alright, one more day to let everyone who gets a chance to sign up for the exchange.

To all the people who cannot or don't want to do physical mixes: Let's get those digital mixes going. :)

You guys get the benefit of sharing with everyone right off the bat.

To the physical mix exchangers: send me your addresses and any likes/dislikes so I can hopefully match everyone up best I can. :)

We get to have the real fun. The OP will be updated in a few with guidelines and some things that have made these mixes ridiculously fun to exchange in the past. :)

Well I've compiled nine songs so far. It's roughly about 40 minutes and 50 mb. How much can those discs hold anyway? Do I still have a long way to go? This is pretty difficult. I am a little horrified that most of it is rock pop and mainstream stuff. :lol

again, those who don't want to make a physical mix to send out, make a digital mix, upload it and post a link for all to enjoy. Meanwhile, the rest of us have a second Christmas. :)

OP is being updated. :)

Am I missing anyone? Misplace anyone?

I will send out PMs to those that haven't sent me their addresses and to confirm that they are in fact in for the mix. I think we should set a mail-out date by the 22nd. That gives everyone PLENTY of time and everyone will still have their mixes before the end of the month. Sound fair? :)

Fuck. Sorry can you switch me to digital? I've been getting my ass kicked with school and haven't had the chance to run out and get CDs yet and I probably won't since I have exams coming up. :(

I also have to switch to digital :(

I have some stuff coming up that's going to be eating away my free time, so I won't be able to do what I wanted to do.

People I have addresses for...just a mental note. I sent out PMs to everyone else for addresses. I want to wait until I get them all (or almost all) before I send out the assignments. Just in case there are some people who ended up bailing.

So 22nd is the mail out date, depending on people actually responding with their addresses in a timely fashion?

yessir. Most people since last night have gotten their addresses to me. Just waiting on 4 or 5 more and we are good to go. I will update the OP with another crop of bolded names.

Okay, here's a mix. It consists of 1 hour of edgy and/or avant garde jazz. It's not crazy off the wall stuff (given that it's not the most accessible of music.) It's all from CDs released within the last decade.

Here's my awsum cover

Here's the track listing (title, artist, album):

Three Chords - Frank Kimbrough - AIR
Respiration - Ben Allison And Medicine Wheel - Buzz
Becoming - Vijay Iyer - Tragicomic
Modern Pine - Mark Dresser Trio - Aquifer
Apti - Rudresh Mahanthappa's Indo-Pak Coalition - Apti
Questions Of Agency - Vijay Iyer Quartet - Blood Sutra
Frank Sinatra - The Peter Evans Quartet - The Peter Evans Quartet
Lontano I - Tomasz Stanko Quartett - Lontano

Thanks for kicking off a mix from the digital-age, perry. I will give it a listen tomorrow and let you know how I like it. :)

Damn, somehow I missed this thread until today. Weird, too, because earlier in the week I was actually talking to somebody about a mix exchange from two thousand and god damned two that I participated in here. Found some great music through it.

if you want to go digital, make a mix. :) If you were wanting physical, I just had a guy drop out and you could easily fit in his place. :) I remember you participating in the old exchanges. You had some good stuff.

For those making physical mixes, should we make audio CDs or can we make MP3 CDs? Pretty much I'm just asking if we're limited to only 74 minutes.
