Did my first concert photography gig! It was pretty intense. Lights change literally every second. Also red lights are the reason why so many concert photos are black and white lol.

I'm pretty happy with these shots:

P2121205-1 by Rossi Ivanova, on Flickr

and a small photoshop experiment with the band's logo:

Full gallery here.
Feedback very much appreciated, it's my first concert so anything would help me improve :)

I like the first shot, the second shot, I would make a bit tighter (It looks like it's 16:9 ratio, I think a 3:2 would help give it a bit more tightness to it), and the third looks awesome!

Thanks! It is 16:9 lol. You mean more like this?

Very cool shots.

Made me a want a drone but just googled the DJI inspire....it's a little out of my budget!
Thank you!

The Inspire is my second quadcopter and I love it. My first was the Phantom 2 and I just had a GoPro on it. It worked great and I got all my mistakes out of the way before upgrading. It's a great tool. It's a better toy.

I really start to enjoy how traveling with a photo camera makes me focus more on all the details around me. A day shopping in Den Bosch, the Netherlands;

Yes, I know about the lamp, I would've preferred yanking it out the damn wall but I couldn't, it's what it was, sorry. Room full of shit on the wall so either way something was going to be somewhere. I fixed up 9419, but the rest I wasn't touching.

Well, you could move your position or your model to avoid things growing out of heads. It looks like that would be possible with 72, 78, 82. Since I'm kind of photographing vicariously through you I hope you don't mind me commenting quite frequently on your model shoots.

I probably could have moved around better. I will admit the shooting area was pretty tiny. I probably should have moved the model around more. I do need to learn how to take charge more during my shoots. I think I'll eventually get better with that. Will just take some more experience and confidence. I'm pretty sure the heavy criticism is making me better any way. It's just telling me to think more while I'm shooting.

Thanks! Unfortunately I could throw away many of the indoor photos due to the low lightning. Will have to do some reading on how to handle these circumstances better.
Low light is a huge pain. It's like you can either grab a tripod or up the iso and fix as much as you can in post processing.

The more I look at this one, the more I feel like it should have a warmer tone:

What camera and lens? The images look so smooth, great job.

I like the red panda, light giraffe and ducks in the water. I love the colors in the water with the duck picture especially.

Thanks! I guess those are the more artsy ones? I don't usually go for it (I basically only shoot nature/animals) but I was very lucky to have everything come together in the duck photo.

I watched "The Salt of the Earth" a couple of days ago and got back into the photography mood.

Where do you go to shoot animals? I've always assumed people just go to the zoo unless they work for Nat Geo.

You're correct, otherwise that wouldn't be feasible at all. You probably won't ever spot a e.g. snow leopard in the wild unless you wait for a few weeks/months :D

Though I try to get most of the local wildlife (and strays) as well on trips, but it's much more challenging than in the zoo or a safari park etc. Especially as I like to take portraits of them. On the other hand you learn how to avoid glass reflections and small metal bars/grids...

That and it's very convenient to just visit the local zoo whenever you feel like taking pics. Hopefully it's a good one though because otherwise it can get sad.

Lol Jesus. Yeah I don't think I'd want a bunch of pics of sad lifeless animals. I should try the zoo one day though, I'm just cheap and they're a bit far away.

Following the previous post on Dark Souls, heres some footage I filmed this weekend !

Sorry for the long post of pictures!

So I got my new a6000 and barely had a chance to play with it before I had to head out for the weekend. Of course I didn't have it on me when this was happening in Rhode Island due to the cold weather. I thought it was really cool so I took a phone picture. Basically the water was right at freezing point and because the air was cooler it caused this eerie fog to rise out of the water and form the clouds in the background:

Then some from my new camera just around the house (of course animal and plant pics), can't wait to play with it more later!

Brought it outside to a building they were tearing down to see how well the camera could grab falling objects and spraying water. Did pretty well just using auto settings

Bonus pics with old camera from vacation.

There's nothing more fun than fucking around with a new camera. I've had my D7100 since August and I'm still learning new stuff. Have fun.

your first three are winners, what lens were you using for the eagles? I looked and flicker said 150-600, im not familiar with a 150-600 from nikon. So i assume you were using a TC?

thats some really nice film work. The first two especially, they remind me of breaking bad.

you have to just go out. I routinely see hawks in my own neighborhood in sugar land texas which is just a suburb of Houston. I've seen a Osprey over the Galleria, which if any of you know houston is about as urban an environment as it gets.
So you have to go outside, but its also luck and effort. My first Owl i ever got took me months to get a good shot, i had seen it a couple of times but never got a shot off, and he was skittish as all get out. My second Owl was dumb luck, my friend spotted it from our boat, the driver took us over and this Owl let us get within 15 feet of it and just sat there while we fired off shots. We weren't even looking for Owls.

I really have no idea how to find owls and hawks in my area, I'm in New York. I'm not really equipped with great birder lenses either since everything I have is for close in modeling shots. And yeah everybody here posts really amazing work in here. I just see stuff and I'm like "man I'm bad at this" at times.

Edit:

I just checked and they are in NYC, I guess having a day job just does not help and my longest lens is an 18-105 so that's probably not cutting it at all.

Yeah 105mm is going to be too short for most birding. Not that you couldn't get nice photos with it, but it would take some crazy luck and persistence. You will generally want at least 300mm as a starting point.

This is a really nice shot, whereabouts is it?

Got my film back today!

I asked them to develop the last 7 shots which ended up to be shots of my Miata so here's two shots that I'm really happy with:

I scanned them with my basic HP all-in-one printer at 600DPI and as a .tiff file, photoshooped my license plate out then exported them at HQ JPG. I might scan the rest later, so I'll probaly post them up when I do.

And I also got a contact sheet, so I scanned that as well:

For my personal thoughts... I'm pretty happy with them and I kinda wished I printed all of the roll. Looking at shots I have, good or bad, I like being able to "hold" the picture. It feels new yet familiar lol. But on the other hand, I also realized that I NEED a full-frame DSLR. I was alternating between my N8008(film SLR) and my D3200(DSLR) when I shot the last 7 and the difference is huge.

.

Thanks. I'm using the Tamron 150-600 --Sigma has a similar offering. A pretty capable lens and for the price, it's hard to beat.

This particular image is one I am looking for advice on.

Remember, Facebook has compressed these images to hell and back, so it's going to look strange. Now, is the photo too cramped? I cropped it down due to the various people standing around in the background.

What do you all think?

Here are a few more compressed images from Facebook.

I would love some criticism of my work. I've been trying to dabble in the world of automotive photography.

Here's my Facebook page.

Project: Prism

This particular image is one I am looking for advice on.

I was not aware that you could just embed/hotlink facebook images. That's neat! But to your specific question: No, I don't think it looks too cramped, but I would photoshop that black triangle out (which I guess is the hood of a car), thats on the left edge roughly at the height of the spoiler of the Porsche.

Tamron and Sigma offer those tele-lenses.

I'm afraid that watermark is a tad distracting from the picture.
Only playing around with watermarks at the moment however it's supposed to be blatant as I've had an image 'stolen' recently. I'm not a pro and don't want to be, but I could do with making the odd photo sale to help pay for all the kit I keep buying!

This is a really nice shot, whereabouts is it?
Thanks! It's in Iceland, Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon.

The lagoon is just about visible on the left of the photo and I got some good shots from around there, but this one was works for me because of the figure walking up the hill. It gives a nice sense of scale and how remote the location is..... that said as remote it is it's actually full of tourists, so getting this photo with just the one figure took quite a lot of patience!

The question is: Is a watermark that actively detracts from the image really the right way to go? I would argue it's not. I would make it way more transparent or smaller than it is, as of right now the first thing my eyes fell on was that watermark. And I found it hard to actually look at the picture without it always being in my view. And that seems a bit counterproductive to what at least I want to do with my pictures.

First one is just a standard 3 light high key set up on a white backdrop.

For the second one she is actually laying in front of a large window. There's a light in front a low power to add a little fill. It was shot at 1.4.
