Very nice and clean. You work with a retoucher or is that just makeup?

lol that's definitely retouched.

I've been doing some retouching jobs myself recently and it makes me realise how ridiculously perfect stuff on print is. From one point of view, so extremely unrealistic and touched down to the last pixel, I literally spend an hour or two on one photo when retouching beauty shots, but at the same time there's this sense of achievement and just pure joy when you know it's so... perfect. :D

I just put 1tb worth of photos on an external hdd. I know your pain.

I've been away from this thread for a while. Time to make a comeback!

High Res on 500px.

my improvised home studio and my improvised black pain on my bf's face with my dresses around his face. I am quite happy with my improvisation skills lol.

I'm playing around with greed and red lights, because they're just amazing.
I don't even have that much space on my computer so pretty much every week or two I just clean off the pictures and just throw them onto my flash drive. usually seems to be every 20 or 30 gbs. Nice use of red, very subtle. I need to use more flash gels, but I haven't had the need for them recently. My last shoot was just too crowded with people so I couldn't set up my flash or anything. That stuff is definitely better for studio and indoor work.

I need to get better at retouching, but at the same time I don't have the kind of time to severely retouch 30-40 pictures. I'd still be retouching my last set.

Yeah it's pretty much expected by clients. As you can see in the comparison it's not wildly different from the original. I don't change any features, make anything smaller or bigger, it's pretty much making the skin tone more even and brightening the smile.

Oh so you don't have to remove, acne, pores, loose hair and other such things?

If I'm doing portraits (for friends family etc, I don't do any paid jobs), I'll adjust contrast to try and hide any wrinkles, and I'll use spot removal to clear up any obnoxious things on their face, but I certainly haven't gone so far as to do a full blown "retouching" operation.

First attempt at food-ography. Unfortunately it is already quite dark in here and therefore I had to use a relative high ISO for my camera. However; it is making me hungry :)

It looks delicious! You don't have a tripod you could use? ISO 1600 isn't too bad, but I guess that comes down to personal preference, I use ISO 3200 on my micro four thirds camera pretty regularly.

Somehow I didn't even think of using long exposures to get lightning. That's cool! I'll have to try that sometime.

It's either that or have lightning quick reflexes. When I go for Lightning shots I usually set it for 20-seconds, sometimes 30. A lot of fun if you have a super active storm.

This is one I got thru my dirty hotel window in Dallas last year:

The golf tournament I'm at this week has been pounded with rain and they've barely got any play in. It's looking like a Monday finish at the earliest, which is a bummer because I was expecting to have a week off... Not anymore :(

Alas, here are some photos I took during the delay:

Actually I did use a tripod for the second picture.
However, I really wanted to make the top down shot which was done handheld. Did not want to change my settings afterwards to avoid having a completely different "feeling" of the photograph.

Spent a day outside enjoying springtime!

Crossposting from Auto-GAF since I've barely posted here in recent times lol.

I do have more pics from my trip in New Orleans but almost everything is company stuff and none of them are sorted yet. I'll be going through them this week and I'm definitely posting what I can!

I'm going to be taking a basic photography course this summer. What are some great websites I can go to that will help me out before the course starts? I know nothing about my DSLR, and don't even know what it stands for!

Will I need a camera for the class?

You should probably make sure it's not a film course first of all.

There is a 'softness' for lack of a better word to all of these images that is just beautiful. Great work.

Thank you so much! I think that softness is because its a videoframe instead of a picture, also the color grading and I reduce the sharpness of the video a bit, so it gets diffused.

Probably the right word though, because I understand what you're saying right off the bat. I really like them all though, very nice.

Thank you so much :D

Amazing, what's your camera?

Thank you!
I use the Samsung NX1, for these I used the Sigma 18-35mm, Samyang 14mm f2.8 and the Canon 50mm f1.8 (the close ups).

Weird that my phone auto-corrected "side" to "dude".

Anyhow, that's what I thought of, the softness of the scene. Kinda cool how people can experience an image in different ways and use the same words. It's not that a picture is worth 1000 words, it's only worth, like, 500 because all those words have double meaning.

Managed to get a few shots in some different places.

These are from an aquarium. Was really tough to get good shots tho given the speed at which the animals move and the dim lighting. Good way to test the 35/1.8 though.

I went to a couple of theme parks last weekend. Namely Dinosaur Land and Hello Kitty World in Changzhou and Anji, China respectively. They were pretty cool, Hello Kitty World in particular was the most fun I've had at a Chinese theme park. It was obviously aimed at kids but they had some sweet rides and the parade was hilariously awesome.

Also a few other pictures thrown in including a picture from the future (robot waiter) and one of a man peeing off of a bridge in Shanghai lol (nsfw?). Also a drunk portrait of the Tibetan boss in his restaurant. The dude could sing too, I got some video of him killing it onstage performing for his patrons.

Went to Porto last week, and what a beautifull city it is. All of these are videoframes, but until I make a video, they are "pictures".

Gosh Ricardo, I was gonna say 'DID YOU BUY A LEICA?'
Then I just remembered you're genius at colour grading. Should really look into a colour grading job, they're like the rarest and highest paid thing in the world and you've got a talent for it.

On a side note, I've used a Leica once and it just produced photos like that with no editing, I was mind blown. I definitely understood why people spend so much money on Leicas. Wish I was richer.
I would also go as far as saying that Leica Q is the best camera for street photography. If I was into street, I'd be like... screw DSLRs and buying lenses, that's where it's at. :D

The park was mostly empty... But yeah I probably was. I was with a friend though. A girl. So I think it was fine. Maybe.

The answer is to go in with a wide ass lens, so you have to get reeeeeaaaaaallllyyyyy close to whatever you're photographing, so that there is no mistaking what you're photographing.

In China it isn't really a big deal though luckily since I am a foreigner. People will often ask for me to take a photo of their kid, or they want their kid to pose in a photo with me while they take it. Just yesterday I was at Tiananmen Square and I was asked to pose with about 20 people as I stood there with my tripod trying to take some pics. Kids, old ladies, random dudes with selfie sticks. They all come up to me and ask for pics. But yeah, I wouldn't go to Hello Kitty World alone in the USA or without my nieces or some kids probably.

Hahaha, I dont think I could ever afford a LEICA, but someday, at least ill try one! I wanna know how it feels, just like you, a lot of people have told me that...they just say "its amazing, cant even put it into words, its just..different!", so I gotta see what the buzz is all about!

Im currently trying to get some grading jobs for amateur filmakers, but still trying to figure out how do people charge for this, as freelancing, i've done a few for free, but should start looking into it as a paying job.

Also, cant call it a tutorial, but heres a walkthough to get a similar look to this - http://eoshd.com/comments/topic/18661-your-ideal-nx1-settings/?do=findComment&comment=125450

Man these are great. Colour graded?

Thank you!

Yup, they are graded with James Millers Deluts, heres a small walktrough - http://eoshd.com/comments/topic/18661-your-ideal-nx1-settings/?do=findComment&comment=125450

Can I find these settings in Lightroom for stills? I knows that question is noob as fuck.

How do you guys get concert photography gigs?

Well that wasn't really about 'getting the gig'
It was just a show in a small venue. Just contacted the organisers and asked if it was ok to take some pictures with a dslr. Wasn't a problem. It's not like those bands have managers and stuff demanding certain things. Didn't need a press pass or anything.

Small gigs are a good way of getting a nice concert portfolio though. Just contact the organisers, and chances are pretty high they'll have no problem with it since it gives them, and the band, free publicity. Plus you're getting cool shots you can use later on to create a website with a nice portfolio, which you can then try and use to apply for some bigger gigs where you do require a pass.

I do need a site, hopefully should have one by August. I'm doing a favor for some web designers at work. The catch is they have to design me a site. So before I have to do something regarding concert photography I should contact the venue first? I have to take pictures of a singer performing at a restaurant next month. I'm personally worried about lighting arrangements.
