There's a lot of color noise on these, do you use Lightroom? LR is really good at dealing with color noise, which is a lot more "noisy" than luminance noise.

I'm using the standard photoshop, but i'm guessing the noise is due to the fact that a couple of these are "salvaged" dng files, and all of them are blurry mobile pics that needed to be oversharpened. I really miss shooting on a DSLR(my 550d went bust last year due to water damage) but I think the noisiness adds a cool shitty aesthetic to mobile captures.

Photos from today, went out and took the bird photos this morning, the kangaroos in the afternoon. Before and after shot with the joey in the pouch and out of it. I think this joey might be stretching the friendship with its mother.

What lens are you using with the extension tube? The photos came out nice.

Thanks! It was the kit 40-150mm. I was doing it wrong and using all the tubes stacked, and was only able to get in focus around 120mm+, but it did get me nice and zoomed. These were handheld, next step is with a tripod.'

Also, I dig the 3 birds pic.

Went to a model train exhibit today, I could have stayed watching them all day, love the details that go into all the model making.

Thanks, was good luck getting them all to line up like that.

My photography page died and came back to life again.

I got a few shots at a car event a few days ago. Still processing the rest. I think I like the B&W shot better, but the color provides a mix as I usually do B&W. It's my favorite.

Working on traveling across China via SanLunChe (Chinese Tuk Tuk essentially). Currently on day 3 and 160 km into our 3000+ km adventure. Our little car probably won't make it that whole way, or even half way, but we are giving it a shot. Obviously taking pics and video along the way.

Good luck on your adventure, looks like great fun. I like the layout of the website and your writing style.

Headshots i've been putting together with a musician friend for album artwork and launch party things.

I really like that one a lot, nice processing. The second shot is also nice, the first I don't care for because nearly half the shot is an uninteresting shirt and the chewed-up fingernails are kind of unattractive to be featured so prominently.

Yes that is a good one. I'm curious about the lighting and processing used for it. Since It's shot at F11, I'm figuring the guy was lit up.

I like this one because of all the hands. Like, where are they all coming from? Nice composition.

Hey thank you. The blue/green toned one is using a strobe with a large softbox on it, positioned up close to him. Colours then split toned edited in Lightroom.

And the hands one is for a show called 'Cocoon', which is why i went with the off kilter cropping. Intent was to make it feel cramped, pushing everything up into the top of the frame. (also handily leaving room for show poster details..)
The show name is also what led to the idea for the layered hands. One of them is mine, while my other was holding a remote shutter release.

And hah about the hands being chewed up and scarred. I like it. Though i tend to like things to look grungy and messy. scratches and grit and mistakes are more fun to me than everything being clean and glossy. Different tastes :)

I would love to get a strobe at some point. Are there any good ones that run off of rechargeable batteries that aren't hyper expensive?

That i would like to know myself. Any lighting equipment seems to be painfully expensive to me.
At this point i go back to using a speedlight with an umbrella or ringlight adapter, when i need to move quickly or am outside.

I also want a macro ring light, but I currently have much much bigger fish to fry at this point. I want a second flash to augment the light better but that's really going to have to wait.

Alien Bees are probably the best affordable strobes. They make a super light weight battery pack that connects 2 strobes at once and runs for $240. Strobes themselves are $200-300 a head.

Ah thanks for the info.
Have heard recommendations for Alien Bees before, but i think when i was looking around for strobes the brand was not available where i live (Australia), and the shipping cost was craziness.
Ended up going with Elinchrom ones, and haven't investigated battery packs for them yet. Still running extension cables everywhere..

Yeah...I have heard a few people outside of the US complain that Alien Bees are super expensive to get shipped to other countries.

What's the macro ring light for?

Because macro ring lights are actually kinda bad for macro. Which is weird, but true.

Went to Porto last week, and what a beautifull city it is. All of these are videoframes, but until I make a video, they are "pictures".

What sorcery is going on here? Why do these (i didnt quote them all) images have such a different look? I am not much of a post processor, but the work done makes it look very "natural" and not the contrast y punch most photography is these days. I like that lively color pop, but this is lovely and dare i wax poetic, romantic.

I'd love some tips on doing this with Lightroom.

Almost drove to Inner Mongolia before our Tricycle crapped out and we had to sell. We were here on the border between Hebei and Inner Mongolia riding horses yesterday, then hopped a train to Shanxi Province a few hours away. The next portion of our journey across China is now undecided, we will definitely do some walking between cities, maybe some hitchhiking, trains, buses, and a donkey perhaps. No plane or high speed rail as we slowly make it across this huge ass place. It's been a hell of an adventure so far and only on day 6. The internet is garbage up here so can't get to uploading even half of what I want to, but check out my flickr for some more from the trip if you are interested.

And this is what happens as you get off a bus in any small town in China:

Love seeing your shots and getting updates on your adventures. These are my favourites from this group.

Good luck for the next part of the trip.

I keep thinking about investing into alien bees since I've only been using three yongnuo's and wireless triggers. They tempt me.

Also here's a picture from 2015 which I never got to share in the 2015 photo thread.
I promise it will be the only picture from 2015 I will show considering it's a 2016 pictures thread, just really wanted to share how this picture turned out : )

Might want to watch your white balance if you are going for a food photography style thing.

I think your whites there are leaning into yellowy / green areas and it really affects how *appealing* food looks in photography, to me at least.
Not something i've played with a lot personally, but i think often food photographers go for really high key, bright airy soft white light.

Tonight I find myself in Alaska for the last full night until my return in August. I got out, and found a creek where 25 or so people sternly angled for some salmon;I didn't stay too long as our unofficial state bird, the mosquito, started biting away at me.

Found this awesome thread all the way down on page 7! We can't be having that.

A couple from the weekend. I'll post the rest later when I decide which ones I like!
