You can fit a full gripped camera in the lens hood.

I have the 70-200 VR2. Absolute profession lens, but let me tell ya,

Not even close when it comes to the 200mm F2. Different leagues. You will find fault with the 70-200 afterwards.
Yeah I use Sigma's 2.8 70-200, it's a great lens for the price I paid for it, but I personally wish it was more precise, but better to have it than not have it in my opinion. That F2 200 would be perfect though. I mean I never thought I'd even be shooting...anything at that focal length, but I use my 70-200 a lot more than I thought I did. I find it to be a great focal length for portraits and head shots. You have any example shots with the F2 200?

Quite possibly the greatest lens ever made by any company for portraits. It is super fast, super gorgeous and the bokeh is butter.

The 200mm F2.0 (and classic 1.8) by Canon and Zeiss 135mm F2.0 wouldn't really like this comment. :p

Took the above mentioned lens to my garden once more.

These are really good! Love the fake Aurora :)

This is one from me earlier this year, I loved the location and the conditions but it was really let down by horrible solar flare. I'm normally one to try and get it right in camera so ditched this shot originally, but I like it too much to abandon it completely. I've just got around to editing it. I haven't lost the flare completely as that's how it was taken, but hopefully it isn't so distracting.

Sorry that I haven't posted anything new in a while. To be honest, I was completely exhausted mentally after the semester ended, so I took the month off to catch up on life stuff and for the first time in a while, I'm excited to start working on stuff again!

I'm at the U.S. Open in Pittsburgh this week. These are fun tournaments to cover, and made more fun because Canon is onsite for complimentary repairs/cleaning and....... free lens rentals!

I'm about to run out and get into some trouble with this beast.

You can probably take a picture of me from where you are right now with that thing. What are the specs of it?

You are very well travelled! Cool photos, and as far as lurking goes, I think I made less than 50 posts in my first six or seven years of being a member. Don't be shy about posting a bunch of photos, it is nice to see more variety on here, there aren't a whole lot of people posting regularly here.

The Phoblographer web site picked up some of portraits, and a little interview feature with me. Super exciting. Weird but fun exercise in sitting down and actually thinking about what choices I'm making and why, when taking photos.
Over here if you want a look:

besides that not a lot of work going on at the moment, so i'm entertaining myself by making everything soft and pastel and glitchy for some reason.

Can't get the site to work in China :( but I'm interested in reading what you have to say. Great work as usual, love all three of these, especially the buildings.

A few shots from a photoshoot I did a month ago:

It was fun but also pretty stressful. The lights weren't working as I wanted to(one was a flash and the other was continuous), so I spent quite some time triple checking the lights and all this stuff.

I even had group shots with the 5 models that showed up but since the lights weren't working well, I was forced to shoot at an higher aperture, causing the models outside of the frame to be blurred out. -_____-

On the plus side, I learned a lot coming out of that shoot. Specifically about planning the shots beforehand, apertures, lighting gear, and all that stuff. I'm doing another one in a few weeks but I've got a workflow established already(that I learned from this previous shoot) so it should be more of a fun thing than stressful lol.

I love them and that's awesome you were featured.

I haven't shot much besides a couple paid shoots but I am about to work on a new mostly self portrait series so I can experiment with new techniques I've been studying. I want to also do a lot more weird gel photography sessions, so hopefully I can start posting in here more consistently starting this week.

This photo was done near sunset while I propped my reflector between my legs and angled it up towards her. I also liked the sun flare coming from the side, so I made sure to capture that.

This was taken while we were walking in Winter Park, FL. I played around with the editing a bit.

I like these shots (they're certainly better than I could do) but I have to ask if that little bit of tilt was intentional on the first two? It doesn't look like it's done enough to be an effect, it just makes them look a little off, IMO.

I definitely think the third is the most successful, I especially like just having a solid tile background behind the model.

Thanks! Been to a few places. I love travelling. Everyone on here is seriously good! Love looking at the variety and getting some new ideas.

Here's some stuff closer to home.

Mainly portraits to share today, so many pictures recently. Went through 690 last night, from the last few days of travel.

Farmer and his wife. Dude had beautiful blue/green eyes. He is ethnic Chinese. We drank their goat yogurt and got tour of their farm.

I hate group shots the most, the most most.

Yeah. I can't even bring myself to use or post them anywhere.

It's that terrible.

Honestly speaking... I'm looking at a good looking person so the background just doesn't matter to me. Now if the subject was in front of the dumpster for example, then yeah that just wouldn't work at all. But for something like this, yeah... I just didn't really didn't care for the background then, nor do I care for it now simply because the subject draws my attention.

I'm not gonna lie, I sometimes do think that my approach can be wrong in some situations. But at the same time, I'd rather have the shot than not have it all.

That said, that was a really interesting observation so thanks for that. It's definitely something I'm gonna consider for the next time.

Some great photos recently. Weather has been awful here just lately so haven't been able to get out much, but finally got out today with my new Samyang 21mm f1.4 and this thing is sharp. Was wary of getting a manual focus but it is sooo easy on the Sony body I was pleasantly surprised.

Yeah, Sony makes it *very* easy to MF. I spent a good half of today at a convention shooting at 1.4 MF and I don't think I missed focus once.

We climbed Huashan and camped on top. Took us all day, about 9 am til 7 pm when we set up camp. Light pollution up there was bad so didn't get anything good of the stars. Took some sunrise pics but Flickr and Chinese internet is being a pain as usual, so none of those yet.

Hey guys. I want to try improve my photography game, primarily as a hobby. I haven't formally taken any photography classes cause its conflicted with my schedule and I don't think I have the time to take any classes next semester but I am still interested in learning. I was wondering if you guys have a any tips or online resources to help. I am also willing to purchase a book or two.

I am currently using a old Canon Rebel XTi with a 55-250mm lens and a 52 mm lens.

Look up Youtube videos on Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, Light Meter, Composition, etc, and go out and shoot. Mess with the settings on your camera (ditch automatic, start with Aperture Priority or Shutter Priority and work your way up to Manual mode) and experiment. You'll only get good by training yourself.

I started with a Rebel T5i and the 18-50mm lens and only used that for the longest of times. After shooting (and failing) a lot, I learning what to do to improve.

Also, always shoot RAW and get good editing software.

Digital Voyeur by Tony Frattle, on Flickr

I took this earlier tonight at my wife's parents house. I decided to bring a flash, my gel pack and the camera over there to practice a bit before dinner. I need to start treating my photography as a second job again to continue my growth. I feel empty when I don't shoot for long periods, so here we go.
