So, for whatever reason, a few people have asked me to make them prints of some of my photos.

Can anyone help me get started on this kind of thing? I'd like it to be cost effective, but the finished product should be of good or superb quality.

I'm considering putting up a website to sell some of my better stuff. Not to make a bunch of money, but to share my stuff in a more personal way. I don't wanna have to charge people $40 just to cover the cost of printing and/or framing. Ideally, I'd like to sell stuff between $5-$15. Is this doable?

Halp me.

I host my site on Zenfolio which has a built in storefront/printing service with Mpix. It really depends on how large you want to print.

This is my price list for the first 3 sizes: http://i.imgur.com/ZVZwcsl.png

Just add the base price + service fee columns and that is the minimum you can sell it for (at 0 profit). Adding frames tends to raise the price by quite a bit. With Mpix adding a frame to an 8x12 adds about $20.

These are exactly the kind of figures I was looking for! Just been perusing the web for a little, and it's been difficult to find prints at reasonable prices.

I'm gonna look into Zenfolio/Mpix right now.

When you say you host your site on zenfolio, what do you mean? Do you have a unique URL or is it something like zenfolio.com/darknessbrah?

Basically it is a site that offers customizable templates for photographers along with a customizable storefront. It's a nice way to display and sell your work. They offer a 2 week free trial if you may be interested.

I pay $150 a year for the site, plus $10 (I think?) a year for a domain name to link to it. I think without your own domain name you just get one like zenfolio.com/username as the default. My rate with Zenfolio is grandfathered in at a cheaper rate. I believe they have gone up in price quite a bit recently. There may be cheaper services out there that do the same thing. At the very least the price list I posted should give you a rough idea of print on demand costs.

Shitloads of photos... sorry about that lol. As always, feedback is appreciated.

@Jaded: Your portraits of that dude are really good. I like the BW one. Nice and sharp and good expression on that dude. He should be a model not a teacher. No oddly cut limbs or anything in any of them. Natural color, no trump filter. Nice stuff.

Really love that, superb atmosphere!

I'd love to see this with the Milky Way oriented vertically and also preserving the Milky Ways natural color. The dark browns and oranges of the MW would really blend well with the color of the stone.
Yeah the angle was really tough, I wanted to vertical out of the top but I couldn't get it to work. Regarding the colours they are slightly out, I struggled controlling it with the light pollution coming into frame. I'll try it again one day though, I quite like the shot.

Here's another one from the same shoot.

So after saying I was going to start shooting again after a very long hiatus and even posting some iPhone stuff in one of these threads, I finally went out and did it (and found it fun again). Got the bug again now, feels good :)

I like the composition on this one a lot more! Very nice.

Tried my hand at doing some HDR on a work trip to Michigan last week. I'm not sure the best techniques for HDR though. I used the HDR plug-in that came with the Nik collection that Google made available to everyone.

I tried to do the whole "Merge to HD - Save as TIF - Edit in Camera Raw" technique, but it got messy fast. I wasn't get very good results. Anyone have a good HDR workflow they recommend?

Piggybacking on this line: what version of Lightroom do you need? does this work with 5?

Only works with CC or 6 (https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/help/hdr-photo-merge.html), It does not kick you into photoshop. You select 2 or more photos and choose merge, it'll show you a preview with a choice to auto tone as well as remove what it thinks are ghosts, and the end result is a DNG that you can edit like any other raw file.

I attempted to at first, but then I don't know I could've done it cleanly so I just gave up lol. I have a lot of free time now so I'll probably attempt a better shot again.
I've been there. I once tried to remove a piece of paper that a model was sitting on. Just couldn't get it to work so I just left it there.

Are you using anything to tell you where the milky way is? I want to start attempting some shots of it.

It's been too long since I've posted so here's a couple:

This is some kind of metal tree/art/whatever at a lake that's near my house. I was out there doing toddler pics but I haven't delivered them off to the client so I'll post them as soon as she gets them.

This one is of my little nephew during tummy time. They're so fun to take pictures of as obviously they can't move around so I'm just literally posted up with a 50mm(like here) and just aim that sucker whenever you think they're about to make some kind of face lol.

Went to AT, didn't get any shots of actual training (hard to take photos of an activity you are actively participating in, in heavy rain), but I did get a few chances to work on my portrait work!

I just recently completed an open water diver course. For anyone knowledgeable, would it be better to go for a housing for my existing camera (D750) or get a specific type of underwater one?
