GAF Photography Thread of 2016

Trying to see if I can use this as a daily lens especially since I'm on APS-C and I'm pretty sure 28-53mm is much more useful than the 28-90(42-135)mm I've got as my daily lens instead.

So here's some shots:

And my favorite despite the botched focus:

So far so good.

Shooting below f/5 is a little sketchy but it's fantastic above that. I think as a lens to walk around with, not wanting to shoot something specific... it's pretty dang fantastic. Even better is that it's a CPU lens so I actually just had it in Auto the entire time I was out with my nephew. All I had to think was about was focusing and that's so much easier than fiddling with the shutter, focus and aperture.

The question now is if I should pick up another copy of the lens since as you can see, the threads are broken and it seems like it has some damage inside as some pictures get really really hazy in the sunlight. Granted it's also removable in Lightroom and I can also live with that so idk lol.

I'm a dumbass. I'm using my sister's DSLR (Nikon DX VR 18-55mm) and I don't know how to record video. She doesn't have the instruction manual. I keep on pressing the red button that looks like a record button but nothing happens.

Help this dumbass noob out.

On the dial is there a little icon that looks like a videocamera?

1) I think the NeoGAF Camera Equipment Thread | MK II would be more appropriate for your question.
2) You did not tell us the camera, just the objective you are using.
3) Related to the above: Once you figure out what camera model you use, googling for that + manual or something has a very high probability to lead you straight to your answer.

Oh right, see I'm stupid about cameras like that. It's the Nikon digital camera D3300. I'll look it up and ask in the correct place if I don't find the answer. Thanks!

Figured it out. Just had to press the Lv button and then the red button. YAY!

A few pictures from my recent trip with new Camera ( Sony a6000) .
most pics were taken with some leica lenses a friend let me borrow . Some with stock lenses that came with it. All freehand.
Bunch of low angle shots because I was in a dang wheelchair due to a minor ankle injury ( yay torn ligaments are fun! /s )

anyone do freelance engagement and/or wedding?

how do you share your photos with your clients? Is Google Drive unprofessional if I'm not offering any print services?

I have shared stuff using google drive plenty of times. I believe that's 15 gbs free which should be enough as long as you don't have stuff in it. DropBox is 2gbs free.

Finally get to share some of the toddler pics I did 2 weekends ago:

The last one I posted is my favorite lol. The car didn't have a battery in it since we were nearby a lake and didn't want any accidents to happen so I ended up photoshopping the movement in. Even more awesome is that the pic was prominently displayed at his birthday party a few days ago. It felt pretty awesome seeing a huge 8x11 print of it in their living room. Here's the original if anyone is interested.

Not at all.

I use Amazon Cloud Drive for both photo and video since I have unlimited storage. I just email them the link and tell them the link will be up for at least 60 days from when I sent the email and after that I can't guarantee that it'll still be there. Technically it should be there forever since I'm planning to keep subscribing to it, but I'm just covering my bases just in case I do something stupid and accidentally delete it lol.

So many great pictures up there. The one in the basement is creepy. But these two are my favourites:

The colour and mood in this one struck me. However, it seems it's slightly tilted?

Also this one because it's just so cool to me. How did you achieve this?

Thank you.

That basement one IS creepy I must admit :) The city one looks tilted because of the curving coastline, it bugs me too, might have a play with it and see if I can do something. If anyone has any advice about that it would be appreciated.

The mono was taken on a beach, I overexposed about a stop and a half and the sand blew out. Then I cloned out all the footprint shadows that remained and then a basic curves adjustment/mono conversion.

Hmm, is it best to publish ones photos on Flickr or 500px? I have an account on both but is primarily using 500px, and is considering upgrading to an "Awesome+Adobe" account today, to get a portfolio on a domain of my choice, while also being able to sell my photos.

I think it is fine. My eyes are drawn to the horizon line which in this case is represented by the building tops.

Great photo.

Yeah fun. love this set and made me happy to see so thanks.
That dusty haze heat feel is great

whole bunch of good stuff happening in this set, but this is spectacular. Really like how hard you've pushed it.

Have being feeling zero creativity for a while.. eh it happens. I find best not to try and force it when i'm like that. I end up disliking stuff i've forced. zero joy in it.
But this week got back to work, did a small job and have some fun stuff lined up. Feeling that itchy trigger finger again hah.

Working on this glitchy idea last night. I spend a lot of time trying of ways to jostle everyone's pixels >_>

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Pic from a recent trip to Colorado (first time in the US AWW YIISS!)

I just got back from Colorado. Unfortunately, every single night was rainiy and cloudy, so I struggled to get any shots of the stars. I'm just going to tell myself I would have captured something as great as you did. Beautiful shot.

Here's a short little series of shots from my trip.

Love this

You shouldn't have started with the best state in the union. Gotta work your way up to it :p Great shot!

Haha I loved Colorado, but theres a lot more I wanna visit!

Which part of Colorado? Looks great.

I was all over the place, from Aspen, Vail, Denver, Colorado Springs and Garden of the Gods, I believe this shot was taken somewhere in Aspen.

This is an excellent shot, nice mood and atmosphere. I love the reflections and clouds.

Thank you =)

Epic shot, love the tones

Thank you :)

These aren't as expertly captured as the landscapes you guys are posting, but I liked these shots I captured at the Barclays PGA Tour stop last week in Long Island.

Jason Day is the current #1 golfer in the world, and following his round (and after an apparent shower and change of clothes), he came back out to sign autographs for the fans. He was out there for at least 30 minutes that I'm aware of, possibly longer. Very cool.

Great collection of images, Surfheat! I agree the shot on the beach with the buildings looks a bit wonky, frustrating when the horizon is straight but picture doesn't look it - I'd rotate it so the buildings are level and see how it goes.

Also Colorado is going on my list of places to visit. Damn.

These are from last night. I've not been to this spot before but had planned it a little, however upon arrival it had a group of folks enjoying a nice picnic right in the middle of the most interesting set of rocks. I had to improvise a little as I didn't want to disturb them. Also my first landscape shoot with my new 100-400L so had to give it a go (first shot). Dartmoor, Devon, England.

Heres another one from the previous collection :

Has anyone here sold any prints? What is the correct place to do so? I've had some people ask me for prints (locally), and was thinking maybe I could try selling them online, but wouldnt know where to start..

First of all, beautiful shots.

Regarding selling online, check out this thread starting at post 2157 on the previous page. Someone had a similar question I believe.

Question for y'all, if you're forced to shoot facing the sun and you have no choice whatsoever, how would y'all remove lens flare in post?

Did a quick shoot of my car and here's some pics would lens flare that I tried to remove.

The first pic I was able to crop the lens flare out so it's fine to me.

But on the second one... y'all see that weird gray fat triangle next to the tire and muffler? That's actually lens flare that I tried to take out using Viveza from the Nik Collection. Basically I selected the center spot and just reduced saturation or whatever else I could just to match the road.

Are there any other options besides what I did and not shooting towards the sun?

Something different from me for once. The reason I'm here in Kathmandu is to shoot the first "Western style" opera ever produced in Nepal. It has been a hell of a thing, with so many technical difficulties and various "3rd world" type issues... For example, the last dress rehearsal had no electricity and was done in the dark just with a few candles lighting the stage. That was the night I was supposed to have total access to the stage and go wherever I wanted in order to get some shots that are impossible to get once audience is in the house. So that was a failure for me. Anyway last night was the first performance in front of an audience (free run through for friends and families) and it went pretty well. Here are a few pictures from it... and I'll be shooting a few more shows including tonight in a few hours. Gonna try to nail a few more solid photos of every actor and singer before getting experimental on future nights.

Would love feedback, criticism and suggestions since I'll be shooting the same thing over and over again for the next week. Hope to make it more and more compelling.

Got to do a bit of traveling this past week. Y'all get to take another trip into my world of bush Alaska. You'll notice much of this may remind you of the Florida swamp, and that's quite the accurate comparison.

Much of the terrain between the hub city (only reachable by aircraft), and my village looks like this. Not many trees can be found out where I am.

ElJYS7a.jpg
Bigger

Lots of little streams and rivers, but they sit far from villages. I know a teacher who once went from the hub city to his village by kayak. It took his group three weeks to cover 100 miles.

Quite easy to get lost down there if you don't have a map. You'll sink right into mud, or water. Some villages only can use boardwalks to get around. Me? Our ground is much higher above the water table, so I get to walk around.

Lots of good sized lakes out this way, too.

That's my mode of transportation when I need to get into the hub city. No roads go out to where I am. Cessna 208s fly out to where I'm at, and another company uses 207s.

Eventually, you reach the edge towards a much bigger body of water.
