GAF Plays: Diablo 2

Saige

I must do better.
Count me in. I’ve been itching to start a new Barb.

And I just had a mini panic attack when I realised I lost my copy of the game along with the cd keys, completely forgot you can download your copy from battle.net.

Holy shit I'm so in!!1 But i'm at work right now plus i have to reinstall it again. Are you guys starting right away?

I'll most likely make a Orb Sorc or Blizz Sorc.

blah i ordered through mmo1st via paypal...they make it clear before they send a key...so i'm just gonna order another copy directly through blizzard i guess, unless someone knows a seller that delivers instantly.

idk, dont think everyone will fit in one game. should split up into groups/give a general login time?
Maybe we should all give our preferred time in EST and TheExodu5 groups us accordingly in the OP.

If I can dig through my huge box o'stuff and find my cd keys, I'll gladly roll a bone Necro to romp with you guys. That is... a big.. box o'stuff however.

You son of a bitch.

Everytime someone says D2 I re-install it.

This happens every summer lol.

Register it to the new Battle.net if you find it. You'll be able to redownload and play anytime, no boxes needed.

Damn, nostalgia overload. I think I'll join you guys as soon as I get it downloaded from battle.net.

Probably roll a fire druid, convert to windy later on, or maybe do a summoner druid.

Sorceress and Necromancer are great PvE especially for new people without outside help because they are th least gear-dependent classes. The rest kind of need good weapons and charms or they're really weak.

I really want to join but I have to pass. I'm too busy right now.

I could amend people's general login times to the OP, but I don't expect organized groups would work out that well. Some people will quit after a day or so, others might have other preoccupations.

Just add everyone from the op to your friend's list (do we have to add by account name, or can we do character name? I forget) and figure out who's online that way. You can also just post in this thread and say when you're playing and some people might join you.

I'll be playing at 7PM EST, and if anyone wants to join, they can. Also, I'll give my Vent details tonight and people can group up there if they like.

Don't worry about the logistics too much. Diablo 2 can still be played very well asynchronously. I can start the game and do a few zones myself. I can join some friends starting out at that point. I can do a few boss runs on my own if I like, or organize runs with other people. Play it at your own speed and comfort level. I don't want to bog down our playthroughs with scheduling issues. If someone falls greatly behind and needs help, I'm sure someone here would be glad to help them catch up.

I won't be able to get in on this until the evening, but I'll most likely do a martial arts assassin. I'll post the character name once I actually have her made.

Ugh...must resist...

I love the game, but I'll probably have to pass. Backlog is way too large for me to take up another few YEARS playing this game again. Have fun, though!

I'd like to but apparently my cd key is invalid. Installed the digital version, converted my 16 digit key to a 26 digit key, and I can' get on bnet with it. Never had an issue back in the day, guess someone else used a keygen and is using my key?

Would e-mail blizz, but their solution is a joke. Send in your jewel case + $10 for a new key, give me a break

Brobzoid

how do I slip unnoticed out of a gloryhole booth?
is it possible to get this working on a modern mac short of installing windows?

Man, no help means you have to find your own Horadric Cube, find the Summoner yourself, and go through Act 3. I never liked those parts.

So, wait, this is a daily/weekly thing?

I wouldn't mind playing, but I'm afraid the "GAF clan" will die out within a week.

I got mine of a site called mmo1st.com for $9.

They're not legitimate resellers, but the keys are legit and I haven't had any issues with mine.

The only legit DD seller would be Batte.net itself. I think Blizzard charges $30 for it, though.
Beware of these. They often re-sell the same key causing you to have to share your key with some random stranger. These keys are also often muted (they don't generally sell banned keys, but they sell keys that are or will become muted). I speak from experience.

I am always playing Diablo. However, I mostly play hardcore. I assume you guys are playing softcore?

Outside of summon, Necromancer is probably the most gear-dependant class. Poison and bone both do pathetic damage without good gear and even summon depends quite a bit on enigma. I would say that the only Necromancer spec capable of soloing hell untwinked is likely summon. You might get away with a summon/poison hybrid as well, but you would be substantially more invested in summon than you normally would be.

Aaaaaaand done. Hardcore orb sorc, here I go.

Account name is CrunchyFrog09. It's been a while but I can't seem to find how you add friends in DII's B.net

Hardcore on US East is suicide on closed Battle.net unless they've finally killed the lag "storm"s that happen during boss fights. :|

I've played HCL on USEast for probably around eleven years now and I've never had a major problem with lag. Are you talking about graphical lag? If so, read into a glide wrapper. If you're talking about ping, the servers in general are certainly less stable than they once were but they're not too bad, and the only time that bad ping correlates with the death of a monster is when you kill Shenk.

I'm talking you're alive and going against Diablo. Get hit, ESC BAILOUT and the server decides you die despite the fact you left with 10+HP left. Along with the graphical and ping lag.

Slowdowns REALLY kill your chances on Hardcore above Normal. Normal Hardcore isn't bad on B.N, but god help you on Nightmare.

I've gotten to 97 on hardcore and was killed by a TPPKer. I'm glad that shit's gone.

You should always rejuv when you escape-up-enter because it takes the game about a half second to realize that you're gone.

Summon Necromancer is very good PvE and it's always nice to have one in the party. I guess it's a bit hard to kill some of the bosses with pure summons though. I don't know the current state of summons but I know that during some patches 20 Revives were strong enough to take on bosses.

Summon Necros also do well in Hardcore since they have so many meat shields to protect them even during lag.

Summon can do bosses fine with just skeletons. If you have access to cb monsters, revives can make pretty much any boss a joke.

Revives are extremely weak, as are the clay/blood/fire spirits now. There's a reason after 1.10 Necromancers have gone Skeleton +20 Mage +4 Revive +1, Clay +1 with +Skills, because the summons suck now in terms of damage. Summoners are nothing more than tanks now a days.

We shall await you in softcore for when a Nightmare Bone Stigian Doll explodes all over your face.

Doesn't even need to be that, just Diablo Normal in extreme lag to where you bail out but it counts you dead. (RAGE)

I honestly haven't play much of the other classes outside of Summon Necro. I rather summon things and let the rest of the party worry about dying while I sit back and sip potions.

CrunchyFrog09 - meteorb sorc

Heh I did hardcore last year. Lost my windy to those Stigyan Dolls. (Hurricane up -> get surrounded by dolls -> they explode from the hurricane and kill you). Next character was a lightning sorc that made it to Hell. It's fun, but there's too much lag and quitting the game when you're in trouble is not all that fun. It's something you can definitely try at some point, but it's just crushing when you lose that character that you've worked 50 hours on.

Anyways, can anyone confirm that you need an account name, and not a character name to add someone to your friend's list?

Man, I just started playing Diablo 2 again.

Does anyone here play on USWEST? I play Hardcore Ladder, we should play sometime!

Yes, you need the persons account to add them to your friends list.

It's a whenever thing. I foresee myself playing this nearly daily for at least several weeks or maybe months...at least until I've done Hell Baal. I'll probably farm loot at that point.

Basically, add people to your friend's list, and play with people who are online. If you want to organize a play time, just let people know when you're going to get on and hopefully someone will want to join you. I'm sure it'll boil down to a few regulars after a little while...we'll see how far it goes.

CB monsters are monsters with a high chance of crushing blow (urdar type monsters). Crushing blow deals damages in percentage as opposed to dealing a fixed number of damage. This is why CB revives make most bosses a joke, because it makes their health total irrelevant. 10 CBs can make short work of basically any boss; this is demonstrated in the Necromancer's efficacy at Übers.

Also, skeletons do fine damage for solo play. Like I said, an untwinked summon necromancer can do hell just fine.

And, for the record, golems have always been absolutely dreadful at dealing damage. This is not new.

One last edit: Who puts four points into mage? Also, you need blood golem and iron golem to get revive, and good luck playing without summon resist.

You need an account name. If all you have is a character name, type /whois charactername. You can also do this to yourself for some reason (/whoami).

I find it more entertaining to play hardcore without using escape-up-enter to avoid danger unless it's a bad seed (burning souls everywhere). Also, stygian doll explosions are bugged and won't hurt you while you're moving.

Alright, so in that case, we'll use account names instead of character names if possible. I'll put a * in the OP beside any name that represents a character name, and not an account name.

edit: or not

That's confusing, seeing as the game represents account names with an asterisk and character names without one.

Yeah I'll think of something better. Tried messing around with a
